Japan Motorcycle Adventure 🇯🇵 | Project 47 Ep #2 Miyazaki

Japan is a unique country
made up of 47 prefectures.   my goal is to ride them all this is Project 47 Hello and welcome, my name is Adam and in this
episode of project 47 we come to you from the   beautiful Miyazaki Prefecture. Japan’s answer
to Southern California. but it’s not all about   surfing here, there’s a lot more to see
and explore. let me show you what I mean okay guys we’re in Miyazaki prefecture now
and let’s go to the map and show you where   we’re going. okay so we’re going to start down
here just on the south side of Miyazaki City and   shoot straight up the coast stopping along the
way at a few cool spots before cutting Inland to   the western border of Miyazaki up in the mountains
checking out some towns up there a few historical   sites coming right back down through the mountain
ranges all the way to the very south down here to   Cape Toi which is the most subtly tip of Miyazaki
before heading right back up to where we started   at Aoshima should be a pretty cool trip we’ve got
about 4 days I think weather looks like it’s going   to be nice and sunny although it’s going to get
cold we’ve got some really cold weather coming   in but it’s going to be fun so let’s get to it
first up is down to Miyazaki Shrine let’s go located in the heart of
Miyazaki city is Miyazaki shrine walking under the Vermilion gates in the
morning light is a serene experience as   you approach the Gosho Inari Shrine. a
long straight walkway leads you towards   the main Shrine or honden. along
the way you can enjoy the forest   feed the koi in the pond and just immerse yourself
in the beautiful Tranquility of the shrine The shrine is dedicated to Japan’s first   emperor Jimuu and as such plays an
important role in Japanese history. Great effort has been made to
maintain the historical accuracy   of the shrine and as such it feels
like you’re entering a time machine walk through the peaceful Forest until
you find a small village consisting of   actual historical buildings. each of
these houses is from a different era.   normally they are open to the public but
unfortunately on this day they were closed I decided to hit the road and head North. The road between Miyazaki City in the northern
city of Hyuga is not overly exciting and the   weather forecast called for an intensifying of
the Winds throughout the afternoon I figured I’d   just make tracks and head north to avoid the wind
before it got too strong maybe get to my campsite   a little early. Riding north through the small
coastal towns I saw a sign for Yatogi falls.   I hadn’t been there before and well I can’t go
past a waterfall you probably know that by now well that was pretty cool so it was a bit
of a hike in to the waterfall it’s pretty   good little hike it’s uh it’s kind of a
trail hike it’s not overly hard but it   wasn’t super easy either especially when I’m
wearing riding boots hiking boots would have   been nice for that but epic waterfall man
that thing is huge and it’s really pumping   today. really cool I’m glad I stopped
for that all right let’s hit the road I was getting kind of hungry and I
heard about this place up the coast   called Kanegahama shokudo apparently the
food was epic and the view equally so. okay so found a nice restaurant we’re going
to have the local delicacy which is called   chicken nanban which is the deep fried
chicken over rice with tatar sauce and   a special sweet kind of soy sauce it’s the
uh local delicacy for Miyazaki prefecture   and here we are at this place with this
beautiful ocean view up on side and staff   just told me that in this whole area this
is the number one spot now he might be bias. but day one’s going real good so far all
right let’s dig in. so this is chicken nanban. that is excellent. all right so I think
what we’re going to do now is we’re going   to head up to this really cool Shrine
by the beach which is kind of cool I   haven’t actually been there before so it’ll
be new for me and uh we’ll going check that   out next then there’s some other cool stuff
along the coast before we’re going to head   up to the campsite. wind’s insane today so I
may head to the campsite a little early just   kick back and have a rest I think it’s going
to be a lot better tomorrow wind wise anyway   weather’s meant to be pretty good all week
so we got lots of time should be fun let’s go all right that was super cool so Hyuga where
we are now and Takachiho where we’re going   to go tomorrow considered by a lot of
people to be the spiritual birthplace   of Japan and this is one of the spots
they think that Japan’s spirituality was   formed from it’s pretty cool. nice
cave. all right let’s hit the road the wind is howling but it’s protected down
here a little bit so should be good. just   decided to get here early get set up and
uh yeah get some rest in. it was a it was   a long day in that wind I tell you what!
but we’re here now so let’s get it set up. the wind continued to intensify just casting
all kinds of branches and debris at my tent. so,   exhausted and reluctantly I moved my
tent to another spot a little more   exposed but not getting hit by debris
and then just like that, it stopped hey morning guys it was an interesting night so I
originally had my tent set up over there but the   wind was howling so bad last night that a few tree
branches were coming down. so the guy who had this   campsite, packed it in. I think he got a little
scared. so I moved the tent just after dark,   well just before dark it was around Twilight
and I moved it over there to get out of the   branches I guess and out the mud because
the ground was kind of rocky and muddy.   Over here some nice grass so but it got
cold last night. the forecast said – 4° c   my little thermometer told me it got down to –
6° c and as you can see my poor baby I wasn’t   able to put her in the tent because they had a
rule against putting vehicles on the grass but   she got frosted up look at that poor baby but
I got a great night’s sleep that was so good   it was super warm inside my tent so that was fun.
so the plan today is we’re going to wait till all   this sun comes up and all this Frost can burn off
and then we’re going to head up to a place called   Takachiho which is like the cultural birthplace
of Japan like spiritual birthplace of Japan uh   full of shrines and and temples and um like some
waterfalls and things like that so that would be   really cool so we’re going to go do that and
then we’re going to ride across the uh sort   of the Inland border of Miyazaki heading south.
we’re right up in the north of Miyazaki right now   and just see what we can find it should be a fun
ride but like I said just got to wait for the sun   to come up so we can burn off some of the ice. the
roads are all iced up right now but uh yeah it’s   time for some coffee and then into day two yeah
baby it’s going to be a good one! it’s so cold. the road wound ever on gradually
shifting from forest to wide open   valleys crisscrossed with Bridges and
ribbon roads with the forest giving   way to endless staggered Rice Field
terraces I knew I was approaching takachiho this beautiful mountain town nestled
within a valley is truly unique within Japan now in the death throws of Winter the
whole valley was brown awaiting spring. my first stop was the Beautiful Amano
Iwato Shrine but as I arrived I saw   a whole bunch of tourists heading down
I figured I’d just take a break at the   little cafe there and grab some lunch
while I waited for the crowd to thin all right so we got a rice Burger
looks pretty good and nice coffee. The crowd didn’t thin. the tour buses kept
coming in wave after wave I decided it’d   be better to show you the beauty of the shrine
with some footage I took at another time early   in the morning without the crowds it’s really a
beautiful place to visit if you do come to the   the area make sure to get here early or arrive
Just Before Sunset to avoid those crowds. next I headed towards Takachiho Gorge
this spot has been made so famous by   Instagram I expected a sea of people but
to my surprise it wasn’t too bad at all all right one of the cool things about
coming to the gorge on a motorcycle is   free parking right out front it’s kind
of nice. let me show you this place Takachiho was beautiful but overrun with
tourists I needed to go find some wide   open spaces some room to breathe I spotted
a waterfall a little further down in the   mountain range to the South it looked
like it might be a nice place to enjoy   nature and a little Solitude the
road in looked pretty fun too. Unoko Falls was breathtaking! the path
to the bottom was closed but from this   Viewpoint I decided just to relax and
enjoy it. I tried to call my campsite   but no answer yet again. it was starting
to get cold the wind was kicking up and   I wasn’t sure where I was going to sleep
tonight. I figured I’d just hit the road   and head towards my destination for tomorrow
and hopefully find somewhere on the way. As I left the waterfall I knew I was in for a
bit of a ride I had to cross a mountain pass in   order to get anywhere near a place that looked
like I could camp. something I had planned on. I had approximately 1 hour maybe two of
daylight left and Google Maps was telling me   that the nearest possible campsite was 3 hours
away I had to make tracks I had to push on. As I rode up the mountain pass I started to see
snow built up on the sides of the road which is   never a good sign around every blind corner I
expected to find ice and on some of them I did. my hands were frozen. I could
barely feel the brake or the   throttle but I had no time to stop
and warm up I had to push through. finally the road leveled out and began to
descend down the other side of the mountain. but I was frozen solid my teeth were chattering
and my whole body was shivering I pushed forward. as I reached the bottom of the mountain
I was met with a new challenge a narrow   winding unkempt road that Twisted along the
River Bank through Ravine. normally this   would be a playground but the sun was long gone
and it was cold. the sun had gotten so low that   it wasn’t getting in here and I knew that once
dark fell this road would turn into ice. I had   to make it out. I needed to find somewhere
to make Camp I needed to sleep I was spent. just when I thought I couldn’t
take much more of this   the road opened up and the sun broke through.
I made it! now I just needed to find a campsite all right guys day two is a wrap found
a campsite um well technically it’s a   little stealth camp tonight down by a little
park so hopefully no one comes and bothers   me it’s pretty uh pretty much in the middle
of nowhere so it should be okay got the GB,   my baby inside the tent tonight don’t want to
have to defrost it again tomorrow. The ground   I’ve camped on it was just like there’s so
much gravel underneath the grass here that   you know I broke a tent Peg trying to put it in
there so luckily I got spares but we’re here. oh looks like we’re in for a beautiful day   sun is out it’s meant to be cloudy
today got a little blessed I guess all right, I’m hanging for spring I tell you
what it’ be nice not to have to put all this   [ __ ] on but better than not having
the right gear so no complaints. Well,   that was just a little complaint just
there, so I guess I have some complaints for the first time since leaving
home I started the day feeling warm. the road peeled out before me a perfect blend
of wide open sweeping corners, Bridge Crossings   and small technical stretches. it was so devoid
of other traffic I almost began to feel lonely Miyazaki is such a riders Paradise it doesn’t
have a lot of attractions outside of shrines,   historical sites and nature. but the roads
are just amazing! funny just yesterday this   road would have been torture and now basking
in the sun and the warmth I was in heaven. the forest gave way to farming
fields and small towns sounds as   I made it to my first stop
the beautiful Aya castle. wow that was pretty cool so far that may
be one of my favorite castles but um yeah   I like that was all wood it was really cool
it didn’t have um normally they put like uh   the rendering on the walls make them all white
I just liked it it looks so much more built,   hand built it’s very cool, I enjoyed that a
lot but it is time to get back on the road   and head to our next destination
it’s a little town called Obi every now and then you get to
ride a road that just stays   with you the road to Obi was one of those roads. the Obie castle ruins are quite
an impressive place to visit   while the castle is long gone the
walls and Gardens still stand. the castle was the domain of the Ito
family and at the top of the hill you   you can find the Lord’s residence a spacious
Japanese house filled with a maze of rooms the Ito family ruled this region for 280   years finally being forced out
during the Meiji restoration. there are many places to visit here and honestly
you could spend hours walking around enjoying   the historical artifacts I didn’t have that
much time so I just chose a couple of spots. I made my My Way South. the weather was warm.
the Sun was shining and I was stoked. I’d found   a campsite located right on the most southern
tip of Miyazaki prefecture it was a crazy unique   looking place as it was located within a national
park designated for the Wild Horses of Toi Misaki. Perched on a cliff with a lighthouse and perfect
ocean views I couldn’t wait to check it out alright well we made it home sweet home
for the night okay so it’s pretty windy   we’re really exposed but we got the
tent set up it shouldn’t go anywhere. it’s time for a beer little fire little food little beer time
for bed perfect end to a perfect day. it had been a crazy windy night I stayed up for a
few hours chatting with the owner Hiro san. such   an awesome dude but the morning blessed
me with Stillness and a Serene Sunrise I decided to take a little easy
this morning I was in no rush I   figured I’d make some coffee and go
check out the horses on the hill. The Misaki horses one of the eight native breeds
of horse in Japan. Quite unique, small in stature   at only around about 130 CM at the withers, they
almost look like ponies from a distance. their   heads seeming somewhat too large for their bodies.
these horses were once critically endangered but   thanks to the efforts of the people of
Toi Misaki their numbers are now growing Hiro and I spent a few hours chatting in the
morning over coffee one of the best things   about road trips is making new friends and I
feel like I made a great one here. if you’re   coming to the area I can’t recommend
Camping Toi enough such a cool spot. But it was time to hit the road and head north.   Sun was shining and one of my
favorite roads was waiting: the Nichinan coastline all right so here we are at Kojima this is uh
pretty famous spot for monkeys. got the statue,   it’s kind of cool! this guy’s got
some balls on him there look at that! but yeah so apparently this is where scientists
first saw monkeys dipping their I think it was   sweet potato into the ocean to add salt to
it. so it’s like a sign of Higher Learning   that they were cooking essentially
it was kind of a cool spot for that a short way up the coastline in a small
Beach Town known as Umegaham is a very   cool Shrine. Inari Shrine is located
deep within a cave right by the ocean I love this little Shrine
I visit every chance I get the Nichinan Coast Road is a Rider’s
Paradise. the stretch of road just tears   along the coastline with perfect ocean views
to one side and mountains to the other with   almost no stop lights or traffic signs you can
really cruise this road and get into the zone we had one more stop to make on
this trip through Miyazaki but I   was hungry and it was time for lunch
so I figured it’ be a good chance to   stop in at Route 220 Cafe a hub
for Riders from all around Japan this is an epic amount of food
I wasn’t expecting such a big   plate but last meal of the trip so let’s dig in. that’s good it’s very good! lunch had been epic! I was so full I
didn’t know if I could continue riding   but it was just a short hop up the
road to Aoshima my final destination Aoshima island is beautiful! surrounded
by a unique washboard rock formation   giving it its distinctive look at low
tide. the center of the island is home   to a very unique Shrine nestled
within the forest and palm trees. The shrine is dedicated to lovers
and as such many young couples come   here for a blessing for their future happiness. I guess I was kind of sleepy from lunch and my
final piece to camera didn’t record properly so   This Is Where I Leave You Folks I hope you’ve
enjoyed this video if you have please like,   comment and let me know what you’d like   to see in future videos. thanks for
watching and as always happy riding in the next video we’re off to
Kumamoto prefecture home to some   amazing waterfalls one of Japan’s largest
active volcanoes and a whole bunch more here are a few of our other
videos you might want to check out

  7. I'm 23, was born and raised in Miyazaki. This video is awesome! Miyazaki is kind of boring place (in my opinion lol), but you made me feel like it's a beautiful and interesting place! Thank you for the great video. I can't wait to watch all 47 videos!

  8. Genau wie der erste Teil, grandios! Genau die richtige Mischung. Motorrad fahren, tolle Landschaft und Straßen, essen… wow! Genauso weiter bitte. 🤩

  9. Very nice, i bought the same bike too, why don‘t you install some wind shield or Hand protectors? Would be much more comfort?

Very cool Videos, i Like it!

  10. another great journey, I grab a drink and enjoy your ride 😀

what (and how) did you connect to the bike at the rear? that part for tent bag

  11. Just want to leave a comment, thank you so much for your great work. I'm thrilled to see more of your project series

  12. Hello, I came here by chance, I need to thank you for putting peace and relaxing my day. The sound of that motorcycle I have fallen in love … thanks for sharing your trip.👍👍

  13. Love the video's sooo jealous but I'm coming back for my second stint in October picking bike up in osaka doing 4weeks your giving away some nice spots keep it coming

  14. Hello Sir, I've really enjoyed your videos. Thank you. I have a question. How do you exactly attach lone rider overlander 48l to your bike without Daytona Luggage Rack, if it's actually possible?

  15. I have just ridden C125 Super Cub from Kanagawa to Kyushu via Wakayama, Shikoku, taking three ferries. Kyushu is the best place to ride in Japan (not tried Hokkaido, yet). Great roads, sceneries, food, kind drivers. I parked my Cub at exactly the same spot at Takachiho! I will definitely go back soon, but on a better bike and by straight ferry to Kyushu. I wish I were riding Kyushu on a Yamaha XSR700 which fits really well to Kyushu road situations. I guess you will enjoy riding Tohoku as well. Ride safe. Cars attack motorbikes wherever you are in the world.
