Oe, Amakusa Town, Amakusa City is most famous for Oe Cathedral, the first church built in Amakusa after the lifting of the ban on Christianity. About 2km south from the church is Omangaike Pond, and to the west of that is Sugamuta Coast. This coast is an untouched natural coastline, and is popular as a photo spot. Most of the people who visit are locals, so it’s not very well known. Twice a year, during the spring and autumn equinox days, you can see the beautiful sight of the sun setting over Kogase, a small island in the Amakusa Sea. The sight looks like a large whale emerging from the ocean and swallowing the sun. Omangaike Pond is a mysterious pond with two layers of seawater and freshwater, and is also the pond where a tragic story about a giant snake and a beautiful woman named Oman is passed down. Let’s take off! Enjoy the untouched natural coastline to your heart’s content. There are two holes in the rock.
