This is NOT a promotional video. I pay for all of my flights and hotels (and I always tell you how much!) so I can be as honest and impartial as possible. I do not receive any special treatment that wouldn’t otherwise be publicly accessible, in fact, the hotels and airlines have no idea about my visit and that’s the way I like it!

  1. Oh my goodness, what an amazing place and worthy of your 400th review. Unbelievably the quality of your work just keeps improving. I really enjoyed this review and the Datai Langkawi is on my must visit. Thanks for your great work and congrats on 400 reviews🎉🎉🎉

  2. Probably my most anticipated video, and i desperately wanted you to hate this place. I had an unforgiving experience there like 2 years ago. I always wondered how a video of that stay, through your eyes would have looked like. Obviously I want you to have good things to say, but I feel the positive feedback you give, is in great contrast to what I experienced. Like, it was alarmingly bad. Just gets to show, you really need to see places more often for a real recommendation. But I for one, don’t see myself paying them, to have a second shot off them delivering what they should have to begin with.

  3. I really enjoyed this review! The comment it is a "rainforest resort that happens to have a beach" really struck me. I like resorts with dense lush green gardens… which eventually yeild to a beach, but had never consider them as rainforest resorts moreso than beach resorts – a new criteria unlocked.

I need to find some gems for December / Jan along these lines before I have some glorious rainy season Bali time.

  4. It's funny to see that Langkawi offers so many great 5-star hotels (I've been to the Westin and it was great too), with beaches that look nice but with cloudy water, while the amazing beaches of Koh Lipe, just a few kilometers away, in Thailand, do not even have 5-star hotels along them.
This said, superb video, Kevin, about a superb hotel.
    Thanks 🙏

  5. If I’m not mistaken, the new Datai was done by GDP architect 😅 But what do I know right? 😊

  6. Stayed here three times over the past 25 years and always loved it. Thanks to Aman Resorts and GHM founder Adrian Zecha for finding the location for this property and getting Kerry Hill to design it. It is a special place and a true tropical 5* resort. Lovely rainforest nature with hornbills, snakes, lizards and monkeys make it an interesting property in seclusion. The rating is well deserved!

  7. The King and Queen of Norway 🇳🇴 stayed at this hotel last winter. King Harald became seriously ill with an infection in his body. Had to be admitted to the local hospital in Langkawi where he had a pacemaker inserted. Was evacuated home by ambulance airplane. They probably had a great stay until he got sick 😊

  8. Everything looks great till I saw the price on the menu for three pieces of tiger prawns. Yikes.

Guess that's how they supplement their hotel booking rates by the prices of their food.

Too bad, was thinking of booking but the food prices just puts me off.

  9. Malaysian here – The Datai is truly one of my favourite places on God's green planet. my wife and I make it a point to come here every year. it is truly my happiest of happy places. we can very easily potate on the beach for 4 days straight

  10. It's crazy for me to reflect back the area that The Datai resides in right now, is where i had my first camping trip with my dad and siblings. Yes, it was 30 plus years ago for me and I can tell you the beach was clear of people back then and we were even almost being attacked by the wild boars! (mother wild boar with piglets, you can imagine) Fast forward to knowing The Datai took over the area and ensured it's preserved, making my heart warm even more.

Having revisited this place and staying in The Datai 2 years ago with the family, it brought back so many memories.
