春の南フランスの村を訪れる旅🌹グルト、メネルブ、ボニュー / 春の花 / 中世の街並み / Goult, Ménerbes, Bonnieux, Spring in southern France🌹
This subtitle made with the help of YouTube’s automatic translation. Hello everyone! This is Sayaka from quatre saisons. We went to three villages in the Luberon on the same day, and at first, we went to Goult, a village in the south of France, with my husband Matthieu. It’s windy and you may hear loud noises in the video, so please pay attention to the volume. In Goult, a market is held on Thursday mornings. The market is not that big, but it is busy with lots of tourists. We usually park our car here, but on days when there is a market we couldn’t and it was a bit difficult to find a parking space. There are not many stands selling vegetables. There was a shop selling delicious cheese. Matthieu seems to like a cheese called Comte these days. This shop sold nice, patterned torchons (Tea towels). A cute dog was sleeping.
He looks like happy! But he has already woken up. We can drink a cup of coffee at there. This place looks like a café, but I thought it was a taba (shop selling cigarettes) because there was a lotto. There is a cute dog as well! I have been to Goult several times, but this was the first time I saw this shop open. The Market in Goult is bigger than I expected. The shop selling knives also sold the same knives I brought from Japan. They also sold a lot of pyjamas with cute patterns!
A cheese shop that is always closed was open. It is a lovely shop. This delicatessen also sells strawberries and honey. We can buy some tea at this stand. We also stopped by the Epicerie this time, as we saw very few fresh food shops. Strawberries from Carpentras are popular in the south of France! We bought a variety of strawberries called Clery . The pain d’épice (Ginger bread ) looks delicious. Honey was produced in Goult, so I decided to buy one. It is also available with lavender. There are a lot of wines on sale! Olive oil is also available. The price of the honey is different, even though it’s the same product. My mother preferred regular honey to honey with lavender. In small villages, there is often only one shop,
They often sell a variety of products, from food to laundry soap to fresh produce etc…. Santon dolls, decorated for Christmas, were also sold! Ham, cheese, delicacies and herbs were also sold. The cheese with cranberries on top looked delicious. It’s time to discuss where to eat lunch. Matthieu and I love kitchen utensils made from olive wood. Matthieu is also looking for a spatula of his choice. (Please watch the video from the last time we were looking for one.) What is this thing I was about to touch used for? Let’s go and have lunch. We didn’t have a reservation, but were told that seats were available in the restaurant, so we had lunch here. For starters, we ordered the green asparagus flan to share. Stiff. It’s like a hard cheese. Delicious! The cheese was parmesan made into a mousse. It was very good with the flan! It’s so good! Matthieu uses mayonnaise on potatoes. Looks delicious. This burger has cheddar cheese, onion (not visible), tomato, lettuce and beef. Looks delicious. Delicious! The meat is cooked on the grill and smells great. This time I had a burger too! We go to leave our purchases in the car before going for an after-lunch walk. We will now go for a walk in the village of Goult! (Please also watch the video of my previous visit.) A delivery of furniture or something? It’s hard for trucks to pass through these narrow streets. The castle on top of this was built in the 13th century and later rebuilt in the 17th and 19th centuries. The castle is now privately owned and used to belong to the Agoult family (one of the oldest noble families in Provence). This right-hand side looks like it used to be used as a staircase. A car was parked by the gate and I thought the road was too narrow to pass through, but it might just be a delivery. There are beautiful white flowers. They are roses? Towards the end of April, the flowers start to bloom little by little and it is fun to take a walk.
This is a windmill built to make flour. There are records that this windmill was already in existence in 1750. We were not able to go inside this time. The view is spectacular! I decided to return to the centre ville via the right route, on the other hand Matthieu took the left route. This house had beautiful roses when we passed by it last May. It was still a bit early in the flower season at the end of April. I always look at this castle, which is built on a rock-like stone below, and I always think it’s amazing.
It’s beautiful. We can hear pigeons cooing in this street but we can’t find where pigeons are. Perhaps because there were so many people, I didn’t see any cats in Goult. It may have been because the wind was strong. When I see the buds, I want to cheer them on, ‘You’re almost there, hang in there! Next to the shop where I bought strawberries earlier, there were piles of empty strawberry cases. We thought Goult looks like a nice place to live because there is an épicerie that sells everything and a café. There is also a cheese shop! The boxes of cheese in the shop window look like antique goods ♡ It was so much fun exploring Goult Village! I definitely want to come back again. It takes over an hour to get there from our house, so I’d be happy if I could visit occasionally! We’re heading to the next village now. See you later! We next went to Ménerbes. It’s a 15-minute drive from Goult. This village has been selected as one of the most beautiful villages in France. It’s windy here too, so it can sound noisy in the video. Please pay attention to the volume and continue to enjoy! It smells delicious. A bakery, maybe. Let’s go up to a high place. It’s been about a year. In ancient times, Ménerbes was an important stopover on the Via Domitia, the road between Rome and Spain.
Ménerbes is also known as the village where British author Peter Mayle once lived. We also published a video of Ménerbes in 2021, which was also a very windy day.
(Please also see the video from that time). We had actually never been to this street on the right, so I decided to go there. The buildings in this area, the cobbled streets and the roofs of these houses are old and very historical. It’s beautiful. The view is also nice. It was windy, but I am glad it was sunny. If there had been no wind, it would have been a very hot day. There are a lot of insects. There are a lot of flowers in bloom, so they must be looking for honey. I have been wanting to get some honey in Ménerbes, I want to make a lot of stock by the summer as many shops close after the autumn. It is very windy. There is something like a castle at the end of the road. It is called a copperplate, right? It has fruit on it, like a Cezanne painting. The fortress was built to house a garrison of Italian soldiers to permanently protect the village after the siege of Ménerbes, a Catholic-Protestant war that took place in 1573-1578.
Unfortunately, it is inaccessible as it has been the private property of the painter Nicolas de Staël since 1953. The prison was created in 1573 when Ménerbes was occupied by 150 Protestant armed soldiers. Despite destructive bombardment, the prison remained intact. The walls were reinforced and restored in the 17th century, followed by a restoration in 2006. Lavender field is visible! From about the end of June, beautiful lavender can be seen. (See the video of my visit to Bonnieux in 2023 with its lavender fields). This clock tower dates from the 16th century. The temperature was just right, the breeze was pleasant, and I wanted to just sit in a daze with the wonderful view! There is a church just up ahead, so I decided to go there. This area also seemed a little different from where we had just walked, as the stones on the walls seemed a little different from where we had just walked, so I wondered if it was built in a different era. We saw a cat for the first time on this trip! The cat walked towards Matthieu! He a cute cat. Where is he. You are so cute. The cat went away just like that. The church of Saint-Luc was rebuilt in the 16th century on the foundations of an old monastery that had existed since the 13th century. It was built from the white limestone of the area. It is a pity that it was closed this time and we could not go inside. Built in 1734, the Chapelle Saint-Blaise has 18th-century architectural details such as a carved wooden ceiling and wrought-iron cloister grating. This carved wooden ceiling was really nice. At this bakery, we decided to buy some navette, a hard biscuit from the south of France. I chose the pistachio chocolate and Matthieu the raspberry chocolate navette. I didn’t notice that the shop staff had misunderstood his order. They also sell other breads and cakes, so if you have the chance to come to Ménerbes, I highly recommend there… We went to Ménerbes. The wind was very strong in this village too, but I was glad I could take a walk in the good weather. Now we are heading to our final destination! We arrived in Bonnieux! It takes about 10 minutes by car from Ménerbes to Bonnieux. The wind is still strong, but the weather is very nice. Let’s go up! The village isn’t very crowded. In Bonnieux, a heart-shaped object was displayed in April 2025. I hope we can see the cats. There was a dog that Matthieu always looks forward to seeing. The dog is more interested in the car than in Matthieu. Next, a cat came along! Sorry! I didn’t turn the volume on for this part… The cat has left. Even in late April, the hydrangeas were already in bloom! There are many steep slopes in Bonnieux, so it was quite challenging for us who don’t get much exercise. Among the three villages we visited this time, Bonnieux is the one where the wind blows particularly strongly throughout the year. This is the shop we’ve been curious about that sells wine. This slope is a bit tough for me every time since I don’t get much exercise. The village visible over there is probably Lacoste. We’ll climb these stairs further. It’s really good exercise. There’s not much wind here. If you keep going, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning view! There was one rose in bloom. The others had buds that were quite swollen, so I think they’ll bloom in a few days. The buds of the Banksweet rose are also yellow, so I thought it was already in bloom. I absolutely love the view from here in Bonnieux, so I always stop by at the end of my visit. My favourite ice cream shop, which is only open in spring and summer, has started operating again this year! With so many flavours to choose from, it’s hard to decide! Two ice creams cost 9€. Delicious. Matthieu chose thyme and honey, and yogurt ice cream. I ordered orange sanguin and lavender. The lavender ice cream is so delicious! I can really taste the lavender. It feels like summer is finally here! We went to Bonnieux. The wind was very strong, but it was a fun walk. The ice cream was also delicious! The flowers weren’t in full bloom yet, which was a bit disappointing. Thank you for watching the video all the way to the end. See you in the next video!

京都は完全に夏の天気です。
1994年に「メネルブ」へ行ったおり、時計塔の向かいの階段に老夫婦と犬が日向ぼっこなさってた光景を思い出しました。
