KOYASN EKOIN TOKUDO CEREMONY【Entrance into the Buddhist priesthood】高野山恵光院得度式
First time I came to Koyasan I felt really that
cultural history and the calmness of nature of this place. Of course I came during the pandemic,
so not as many tourist were here. So, it was even more kind of calm and still, But, even now I can feel this history the culture, and also the serenity of this place. When you walk around the Danjo Garan area, but also the town itself. You can really see the devotion of the people,
all the halls temples and pagodas. So, when I came here first. Of course I also walked around. And not only the halls, seeing them, but also hearing the voices of the monks. Smelling the incense and the general feeling of Koyasan. Really really made a big impression on me. So, when I first came to Ekoin Of course it was a big change as I was just a student before, and hadn’t really worked that much, especially physically. So, getting used to carrying trays and doing all the manual labor, was really kind of challenging for me. But, what I realized especially with the
support of our other staff here, is that you can do it if you give your best.
What I try to do of course. The other thing I noticed itself of course, you always have a big image of
what monks are doing and what monks are. But, they’re really just people like you and me, who just have like another layer of what they do. Of course they have they’re spiritual side, but they’re also really nice people. And that was really really nice to know. and moving for me, sort of sense. I, how to say best. I was interested in buddhism since my teenage years, and more I learned I also try to practice
what to teach and say of course. And I just kind of realize that the they help me very much. And after while I also just thought about , that I want to share this kind, this teaching and what I learned from it
with wider audience of people. Of course that means I could also
do that as like a layperson. But, especially with “Shingon-Mikkyō”, It’s important that you get more involved. So, I also thought while I was on Koyasan. That I also take the step and become monk myself to better benefit others, and also the culture myself, and so hai. Well, to be honest, it doesn’t feel that much different than before, but at the same time. It’s also very fresh kind of feeling. And I feel that it’s a great first step on my path forward. Well, Koyasan is a place with long history and deep culture. And also rich nature. So, if you come here, I want you to enjoy these of course, but also please just enjoy it as you are. As this place is, and as the atmosphere is.
