I Found the Most Beautiful Village in Hungary – It’s Like a Fairytale

Welcome to Tihany, one of Hungary’s most picturesque and peaceful villages. Let’s grab an ice cream to fuel up before exploring this fairytale place What’s your favorite flavor?” Now, put on your comfy shoes (virtually, of course) and join me on this amazing tour! For the best viewing experience, watch on a smart TV or a bigger screen instead of your phone. This is a place where time seems to slow down, and every street feels like a postcard. There’s something deeply calming about the breeze, the quiet hills, and the soft light over the lake. Walk through the heart of the village, where cobblestone streets meet traditional Hungarian houses. It’s still morning, just how I like to start my walks. We can expect fewer people around, which is perfect I prefer to have a lot of space to walk around, it’s spring and the season is just beginning The scent of lavender drifts through the air, carried by the breeze, especially during summer. But for now, it’s the smell from the souvenir shops filling the streets It’s a beautiful spring day, with the temperature at a perfect 24°C for a stroll. The little birds are chirping, and the air is fresh and clean—just ideal for exploring.” Now we’ve arrived at a charming rustic souvenir shop, nestled in a cozy courtyard. As we step in, we’re greeted by a vibrant display of colorful ceramic pieces But there’s also this quirky display of corn husks, hanging up high by the house. They add a rustic touch and look so interesting—like a little piece of village charm you wouldn’t expect to find! It’s a place that invites you to breathe deeper and smile more often. Could you imagine living in a village like this, even just for a few weeks? Rising proudly above the village is the Tihany Abbey, a beautiful baroque church founded nearly a thousand years ago, in 1055 It’s one of Hungary’s oldest and most significant religious landmarks. Perched on a hill, it offers breathtaking views of Lake Balaton. Its white façade stands out against the lush green landscape, making it a true landmark of the area The abbey has witnessed centuries of history and remains a symbol of Tihany’s cultural heritage And now, we find ourselves right next to it, strolling along the promenade that runs beside the abbey With a stunning view of the lake stretching out before us Getting to Tihany is easier than it might seem. From Budapest, you can take a direct train to Balatonfüred, which takes about two hours. From there, it’s just a short 15-minute bus ride or taxi drive to reach the village. If you’re driving, the journey from Budapest takes around 90 minutes. In summer, ferries connect Tihany with the southern shore of Lake Balaton, adding a scenic twist to your trip. This village is like a paradise of colors, and I absolutely love it It’s no wonder it’s been declared the most beautiful place in Hungary Ice cream is everywhere here, and the best part? It’s super affordable, costing less than 2 euros Of course, the most famous flavor in the area is lavender—definitely a must-try! We’re now standing in front of some of Tihany’s most charming houses. Built from local stone and topped with traditional reed thatched roofs, they give the village its fairytale look If you enjoy the video, please give it a thumbs up! It means a lot to me, thank you so much!🙏 These homes are not just beautiful—they’re also among the most expensive properties in Hungary. With their unique charm and prime location near the abbey and lake, prices here can reach up to 5,000 euros per square meter. These souvenir shops have a special charm of their own—most of the items are handmade right here in Hungary! I think they’re lovely spots to browse for something unique. What do you think? Would you take something home? Let’s turn onto this quiet little street and see what surprises await us—there’s always something charming hiding around the corner! You can really see the care put into every detail—even the plants look like they were painted by a master artist It all feels so thoughtfully arranged, like a living postcard! Can you imagine spending a few weeks in a village like this? Waking up to birdsong, strolling quiet streets, and soaking in the charm every single day? These thatched roofs in Tihany aren’t just pretty—they’re smart too! Made from local reeds, they keep the houses cool in summer and warm in winter It’s a natural, eco-friendly way to stay comfy all year round. Pretty clever, right? I had to swap out the original song playing at this restaurant—unfortunately, I’m not allowed to post it due to copyright rules But I picked a new tune that I hope you’ll enjoy just as much! Lake Balaton, often called the “Hungarian Sea,” is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe—stretching 78 km long! It has a tectonic origin and was once five smaller lakes that eventually merged into one. What a lovely couple—walking hand in hand, so sweet to see! It has a tectonic origin and was once five smaller lakes that eventually merged into one. The water is shallow, averaging just over 3 meters, and in summer it warms up to a pleasant 25°C—perfect for swimming or sailing. If you liked this video, a simple thumbs up would really help! Thanks a million for your support! 🙏 The area’s volcanic soil and mild climate also make it great for vineyards, with winemaking going back to Roman times. Balaton isn’t just a summer spot—you can fish or skate here in winter when it freezes over Welcome to the Calvary of King Charles IV, a serene and meaningful site perched above Tihany. Everything here is so green—there’s a small forest nearby, birds singing beautifully, and wildflowers all around. Right in front of us, a swallowtail butterfly is calmly feeding on flower nectar One of Europe’s largest butterflies, it’s a rare and beautiful sight! You can also hear the buzz of the hardworking bees—busy as ever At the top, you’ll find three wooden crosses—each with a figure representing the crucifixion scene from the Stations of the Cross It’s a powerful sight, set against the peaceful landscape, perfect for a quiet moment of reflection. It’s also the perfect spot to sit down with a good book—or simply pause and reflect on the beautiful things in life. This restaurant is a standout in the area, offering not only fantastic food but also breathtaking views of Lake Balaton The cozy ambiance and attentive service add to the charm, making it one of the most beloved spots in Tihany. Whether you’re enjoying a lavender gin and tonic or savoring Hungarian specialties, the view from the terrace is something you won’t forget. Honestly, I knew this place would be beautiful, but it’s exceeded all my expectations. What do you think about Tihany? Personally, I’ve fallen in love with the charm of the houses—they look like something out of a fairytale But don’t worry, I’ll save the most beautiful ones for the grand finale! What souvenir would you choose for your home? And this is truly one of the most beautiful spots for photos! Here we have a little robot mowing the lawn all by itself This must be the modern-day cow, quietly grazing on the grass! 😆 We are already in a small park, amidst lush vegetation. Everything is green and alive, and the singing of birds accompanies us at every step. From up here, the view is absolutely breathtaking! In front of us lies the vast Lake Balaton, Hungary’s pride and joy And if you look the other way, you’ll spot a smaller lake—Belső-tó It used to be a volcanic crater and is now a peaceful spot, perfect for birdwatching and quiet walks. I’ll show it to you better a bit later, with some stunning drone shots! And just look at all the flowers around us—colorful, well-kept, and blooming everywhere It’s clear that people here truly care about making this place beautiful for everyone to enjoy! Lavender isn’t just a plant in Tihany—it’s the village’s signature. You’ll find its gentle purple hues everywhere: decorating shops, woven into souvenirs, and of course, filling the air with its calming scent From street signs to window shutters, lavender is part of the town’s identity. Each summer, Tihany bursts into full bloom with endless lavender fields, drawing visitors from all over Hungary and beyond The Lavender Festival is the highlight, with everything from fresh bundles to soaps, candles, jams, lemonade, and even lavender sausages! It’s not just a flower here—it’s a way of life. Try lavender ice cream, a local favorite that perfectly balances floral notes with creamy goodness Pair it with a refreshing lavender tonic or a cup of lavender fruit tea for a delightful treat Indulge in lavender honey, lavender-infused chocolate oat biscuits, or even lavender-flavored beer And for a unique twist, don’t miss out on lavender gin or elderflower honey wine with a hint of lavender. Beyond edibles, Tihany offers a range of lavender-based wellness products. From essential oils and handmade soaps to luxurious hand creams and bath salts, there’s something for everyone These products are crafted locally, ensuring authenticity and quality How charming is this place? It’s like nature and architecture have become the best of friends here! Garda Akvárium is a charming little spot with a unique focus on the local fish of Lake Balaton It’s small, but definitely worth a visit for those interested in the area’s aquatic life The tanks are well-maintained, and you’ll find some truly interesting species Plus, after exploring the aquarium, don’t miss out on their lavender lemonade—it’s a local favorite Now, imagine soaring above the village like a bird, feeling the breeze as you take in the breathtaking view It’s one of those moments that leaves you in awe, wishing you could stay up here forever Enjoy the view! Enjoyed the journey? A like would mean the world to me — thank you so much for being here! 🙌 I’ve already shown you some beautiful houses, but now, let me take you to my personal favorites I’ve saved the best for last, so get ready for a real treat! These are the ones that truly capture the spirit of this place. Tihany’s daily rhythm is quiet but full of life. Locals still bake traditional bread, tend to gardens, and welcome visitors with a warm smile. There’s a small market where you can find cheese, honey, and crafts made by hand. Folk music often fills the square in the evenings during summer months. Most of the yards here look immaculate, with every detail carefully tended to. Even though I’ve been walking around for a few hours, I can honestly say I haven’t gotten bored at all. On the contrary, I’m amazed at the beauty I discover with every step I take. This is Tihany Kisvonat—Tihany’s little locomotive train. It’s a delightful way to explore this hilly village without breaking a sweat It runs every 20 minutes, taking you from the bottom of the hill near the lake up to the top Ticket prices are quite affordable: 500 HUF for adults and 400 HUF for children, which is about 1.2 euros It’s a fun and practical way to see the sights without tiring yourself out If you don’t take the little train, you’ll be in for a small hike I did it from the bottom to the top, and it’s beautiful, but it does require a bit of fitness. In front of us, there’s a charming shop adorned with thousands of bright red hot peppers hanging in colorful strings along its facade. This place is a true paradise for spice lovers and curious visitors alike. Hot peppers have an interesting history in Hungary. Brought by the Ottomans in the 16th century, they became popular in Hungarian cuisine by the 18th century Now, they’re key in dishes like goulash, pörkölt, and paprika chicken. We made our way to the lake, where we saw some cute ducklings. The boats gently sway by the shore, adding a peaceful vibe to the scene There are also a few fishermen casting their lines from the shore, enjoying the quiet rhythm of the lake. Wow, what a view! The sun is setting, its golden light filtering through the leaves, casting a warm glow over the lake. Welcome to the Ferry Terminal in Tihany! This is where you can catch the ferry to cross Lake Balaton It’s a great spot with stunning views of the lake and the surrounding area Does anyone know what this metal cylinder with a spiral next to it is used for? I’m sure some of you are familiar with it! 😏 I’ve just arrived at my accommodation for the night, and it’s absolutely stunning! It’s called The Houses of History, dating back to 1830 Here we are in my spacious room for the night—well, actually, it’s two rooms! I want to show you how it looks, and there’s a very interesting detail I can’t wait to share with you. The rooms are modern yet maintain their classic elegance, providing a comfortable and cozy stay This is the cool part: a portion of the floor is raised and rounded I wonder what it was used for in the past. It’s such a fascinating detail! I also have some Balaton wafer snacks! They’re a Hungarian treat, with layers of crispy wafers and a delicious cream filling Let’s take a look at the bathroom I really love how everything is made of solid wood. A perfect touch of rustic charm! Good morning! We’ve just arrived for breakfast, and the atmosphere is so pleasant The food? Absolutely delicious! It’s the perfect way to start the day. Let me show you how beautiful the exterior of this place is. It’s such a lovely morning, and the surroundings are simply stunning! These houses have a unique charm, and I must say, the sleep here was incredibly restful The rooms are so cozy, making it the perfect place to recharge after a day of exploring. On a hot summer day, you can cool off in the large and beautiful pool, the perfect way to refresh and relax. Spring is fresh and green, perfect for hiking and relaxing in nature. Summer brings sunshine, blue skies, and festivals, with average temperatures around 29°C/84°F Autumn is quieter, with golden leaves and a cozy atmosphere. Even in winter, the village has a calm, misty beauty, especially near the lake. A tulip for every lady watching this video, just a little gift to brighten your day! Tihany is a popular destination for tourists from Hungary, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia In recent years, there has been a notable increase in visitors from countries such as China, South Korea, and other Southeast Asian nations, as well as from Spain and Japan Tihany is not only a beautiful tourist destination but also a place where you can truly recharge your batteries Whether it’s the serene lake views, the peaceful atmosphere, or the charming streets, it offers the perfect environment to unwind and relax I hope you enjoyed this little tour through Tihany!
