道の駅かつらぎ西 和歌山県かつらぎ市。京奈和自動車道沿いにある道の駅【道の駅めぐり和歌山県】S660ドライブ
This time, we’re touring roadside stations in Wakayama Prefecture. We first headed south in Wakayama via the expressway. We visited the roadside station Shirasaki Marine Park. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. Next, we went to Shiki-no-Sato Park in Wakayama City. It’s a roadside station within a vast park, a place you can enjoy for a whole day. This time, we’re heading to Katsuragi Nishi, which also serves as a parking area on the Keinawa Expressway. We’re on our way to Roadside Station Katsuragi Nishi. Alright, let’s head out. We’ve just left Shiki-no-Sato Park roadside station. Our next roadside station is… …a place we couldn’t visit last time. It’s a roadside station in Katsuragi Town. We’re heading to Roadside Station Katsuragi Nishi. It was cold this morning, but now it’s really hot. The temperature outside is now 20°C. That was the roadside station in Wakayama City. Shiki-no-Sato Park had a very large area. You could probably spend a whole day at Shiki-no-Sato Park. We’re turning left at this intersection, heading toward Route 13 in Wakayama Prefecture. It’s nice to buy something at the roadside station and eat it inside, or bring your own bento and enjoy it slowly at the park. The shop at the roadside station had a great selection of items. We once visited a roadside station in Kozagawa Town. There were sights like Ichimaiiwa and Mushikuiiwa. I think it was Mushikuiiwa. At Roadside Station Mushikuiiwa, they sold Kozagawa-exclusive items. They had yuzu smoothies for sale. You can buy souvenirs from all over Wakayama there. I’m planning to visit four stations today. Due to time constraints, I didn’t explore all of Shiki-no-Sato Park. Just walking around the park would probably take about two hours. Today is a weekday. There were many people bringing their kids to play. Lots of young mothers were there. I wish there was a place like Shiki-no-Sato Park near my home. The next roadside station is located on the expressway. It’s along the Keinawa Expressway. You probably need to use the expressway to get there. I’ll hop on the expressway partway through. I can see train tracks on the right. That’s the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line. The Kishigawa Line is a locally famous train line. It gained attention because the stationmaster was a cat. There used to be a beloved cat stationmaster named Tama. She used to welcome passengers at Kishi Station. Now cats like Nitama and Yontama are continuing the tradition. It truly is a railway with cats. The Kishigawa Line runs through peaceful scenery with unique trains. If you have time, riding it would make for a great travel memory. We’re now leaving Route 13 in Wakayama Prefecture. We could go straight ahead, but… Right now, I’m using iPhone navigation. It guides me along routes that are easy to drive. It chooses the shortest and easiest roads to drive on. We’re already in Kinokawa City. Turn left at this intersection onto Route 10 of Wakayama Prefecture. Right after that, the road changes again. We’ll switch to Route 130 in Wakayama Prefecture. We’ll be crossing a bridge up ahead. This bridge crosses over the Kishigawa River. From here, the road continues along the Kino River. We’ll be heading toward Route 424. Now we’ve entered Route 424. Driving around here, you’ll see lots of peach signs. You’ll also find many direct sales stands selling peaches. This area is famous nationwide for its Arakawa peaches. During peach season, many people come to visit. Arakawa peaches are perfectly balanced in sweetness and fragrance, and full of juice. Take one bite and the juicy flavor fills your mouth. They’re so delicious, they’ll bring a smile to your face. Peaches are often seen as expensive fruit. But at direct sales shops, you can sometimes get them at a reasonable price. If you’re not picky about shape or size, you can even get a whole box starting from around 1,000 yen. I haven’t actually bought them myself… But I’d love to come buy some during peach season. They also offer beautifully packaged peaches for gifts. The peak harvest season is from June to July, so if you’re visiting Kinokawa City during this time, try buying some Arakawa peaches. I was planning to take Route 424 to the Keinawa Expressway. But the signs were unclear, and I ended up taking the wrong road. Now I’m back on Route 13 in Wakayama Prefecture. If you take Route 424, you can cross over the Kinokawa River. But I made a wrong turn and ended up on Route 13. Up ahead, we’ll be arriving at Roadside Station Katsuragi Nishi. Katsuragi Nishi is located along the Keinawa Expressway, so we’re now heading toward the expressway. In a previous video, I talked about Katsuragi Nishi, and at that time, I mentioned that it could only be accessed from the expressway. But I later found out there is also a parking lot for regular roads. I only realized that afterward. At the time of this recording, I didn’t know that. So I’m heading there now using the expressway. You can also access Roadside Station Katsuragi Nishi from local roads. If you’re not using the expressway, it’s actually less crowded if you go from the local road. If you’re not using Katsuragi Nishi as a parking area, then I recommend going via the local road. We’ve been driving on Route 13 and are now crossing the Shin-Ryumon Bridge. We’re crossing the Kinokawa River to the north side. We’ll continue on this road for a while. We’ll enter the Keinawa Expressway from Kinokawa East IC. Now we’re on the Keinawa Expressway. From here, We’ll reach the roadside station in 4 minutes. This section is a free zone. There are no tolls here. Since the roadside station is also a parking area, it looks crowded. There it is. This is Roadside Station Katsuragi Nishi. Here I noticed that there’s also a parking lot on the local road side. The parking lot was full, and I couldn’t park. What bad luck. I thought Katsuragi Nishi could only be accessed from the expressway. But there’s also a parking area outside. Seems like you can get there from local roads too. I’ll get off at the next interchange and turn back. Trying again, heading back to Roadside Station Katsuragi Nishi. I hope I can park this time… If I can’t park, there’s nothing I can do. Trying Katsuragi Nishi again. Maybe you can access both the inbound and outbound sides from local roads. Let’s hope the parking lot has space. Second try. Let’s hope this side is available. Maybe the exit is the right way… Can I park here? No? Looks like I might just barely be able to park. I visited the roadside station on the outbound side of Katsuragi Nishi. I actually wanted to go to the inbound side, but you can’t access it without exiting. I messed up. I said you couldn’t get to this roadside station from local roads, but it turns out you actually can. So I kind of messed up there. Since I’m parked on the expressway side, I can’t go out to the local road side. Now let me show you what I bought at the outbound station. As a specialty item, I bought some walnut mochi. This is mochi made with edamame bean paste. I also got “jako-zushi,” which is labeled as a Kinokawa specialty. It’s a local delicacy from Kinokawa, made in Katsuragi Town. Let’s give them a try. Apparently, “jako” refers to river fish other than ayu. This is what the sushi looks like. It has a sweet and savory flavor. It’s different from persimmon leaf sushi. It’s delicious. Delicious. It really is delicious. It’s so good, you should definitely try it. And here’s the one with edamame paste—looks like this. Let’s give it a try. Alright. That’s tasty. Makes you want to have some Japanese tea.
