*Lee Sang-Hwa (1901-1943)*
He was a nationalist poet, who resisted the Japanese colonialism. This was his house from 1939 until his death in 1943. His house was neglected after he died, until a citizens’ movement in 1999 to preserve the house urged the Military Mutual Aid Association to purchase it, and donate it to the City of Daegu on October 27, 2005. It has been restored and opened to the public, serving as the center for education of the poet’s brave spirit and work.

*Seo Sang-Don Old house (1850-1913)*
He was the nationalist with the dream of recovering the national sovereignty.

*Gyesan Cathedral*
It was built in 1889 as a Korean-style wooden structure by French missionaries working in Daegu, but it was destroyed by fire within a year.
It is one of the three cathedrals in Korea that was rebuilt in Daegu’s first Western Gothic and Romanesque styles in 1902.

*Cheongna Hill*
Cheongna Hill is located within Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center and was where Christian missionaries lived in the early 20th century and where many ivy trees were planted. All of the buildings and trees remain as they were at the time.
It is also called Dongsan Cheongna Hill for being on the eastern side of Daegu’s center.
Missionaries who were active in 1893 brought fortress stones upon the demolition of Daegueupseong Fortress by the Japanese Empire in 1907. They used these stones as the foundation for houses.
When Dongsan Medical Center celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1999, three missionary houses were remodeled into Missionry Museum, Museum of Medicine and Education and History.
There are many attractions in this beautiful garden including Chamness’ House, Switzer’s House, Blair’s House, 90 stairs, Daegu 3.1 Independence Movement Road, Daegu’s first western apple tree, a memorial stone inscribed with the song “Thinking of My Friend” , and the cemetery of the missionaries and their family.

*Seomun Market*
During the Joseon Dynasty, the three major markets were Daegu, Pyongyang, and Ganggyeong. It is called Seomun Market because it was located on the west side of the fortress surrounding the city of Daegu.
It is said to have started in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty and is one of Daegu’s most representative traditional markets.
It sells everything from household goods to fresh food and street food, so much so that it is said to be “there is nothing you can’t find without.”

  1. So many interesting places in one video, super great work Juli – excellent vlog – and that church was amazingly beautiful.
Great work on the video my friend.
    Warm regards,
    Thomas

  2. I particularly like that you almost completely dispensed with music, allowing the natural sounds of the surroundings to shine through. This makes the experience much more intense and realistic—it almost feels like you're walking through the streets and alleys of Daegu yourself. The sounds, like the rustling leaves, people talking, and footsteps on the ground, have a very calming effect. It's as if you're immersed in this special atmosphere and experiencing it firsthand. Very well done; it brings the viewer closer to the place and lets them truly feel the culture and history! 🌿🌆

Topics are a little various. Epidimic building? Are there activists???
    The buildings/houses are well maintained.
I am glad you enjoy the weather…full of sunshine showers over you.
I wish I knew more about the owner of the houses…Well done
