Autumn Getaway to NARA | Exploring Asuka & Yoshino | JAPAN TRAVEL VLOG【The Old Capital #3】
in this travel video series I’m traveling through Nara where Japan’s old capture used to be before moving to Kyoto it’s where Japan’s ancient history started and became the stage for many important historical events as a result the area has preserved numerous World hated historic sites that beautifully blend with nature after I went through the n city which is known for great Buddha and deers I to explore more of n prefecture and today we are dropping by ASA and yoso before heading to wakayama City to finish up this trip to start this day I left Yamato yagi station in kashihara city where I set for two nights I moved to kashihara jingu station where K Minami Osa line from Osa Mar into kyto line and Kara line from kyotto here the train from Kyoto finishes and Minami Osaka line takes a road to take you to the South to Yoshino today I could book the last one seat of the blue Symphony a special limited Express train going to Yoshino to get to here it’s about 70 minutes from kyotto and 40 minutes from Osaka aeno Bashi station by regular Express and another 45 to 50 minutes to yoso until the time that train arrives I was going to visit kashar Jingo Shrine but I had some more time so I decid to visit ascar squeezing into the time before my train comes it seems more common to get around this area by bus or bicycle in ASA but I don’t have that much time today and also bicycle shop is not open yet so I got a rental car just to show you a glimpse of what ASA is like this year winter is coming a little late but uh from today the cold air is coming down and it’s getting really windy and cold this is a Village the again the Chinese colle and the Ki the of Asar have to made I arriv at Oka said it’s open at 8:30 so it’s right now just exactly 83 so let’s see if it’s [Music] open oh see there’s a p and uh main shine above here the first temple is okad Temple it said it’s a Japan’s first Temple dedicated to the wording of e speech founded in the 7th Century not Little M only for my parents this okad said it’s a fast Temple that play the yaku it’s getting rid of the e or something unfortunate [Music] now let’s head to ascad Temple the streets are very narrow to okad Temple and it’s difficult to to car pass by the temple site says you might want to find a parking spot before you enter the Narrow Street the Temple’s parking is free and private parking space usually cost but if you are nervous about going into this small streets is might be a good idea when you visit ASA usually you can get a rental bicycle and get down the town especially if it’s a better season with a little warmer season it might be a fun experience and I was a littleit surprised how much I missed the scener if I take the car I’m used to taking the train and walking recently so I think you notice so much more things if you use public transportations asad’s Buddhist statue was built 1,400 years ago ascad is a small Temple but you can see the glimpse of the seven century when Buddhism arrived from ancient China and started to develop in Japan according to the guide pass in the temple the face is close to what used to be seen in the Continental so it might be interesting if you can compare the face with other Buddha statue in Japan that are a bit later in the history so right in front there’s a bus stop too so you can go around by bus too so there sign parking lot 500 SP so I ask that temp pass but it’s okay so maybe not sure the season now let’s go back to kashar jingu my station Kiara jingu man station and it’s 800 M to Kiara jingu Shrine I didn’t have time to visit today but kashara jingle is a beautiful Shrine that buil fairly new in 1890 so in case you like take a bus it’s a bus route either from KAS Zing station or ASA station this okad station there anything so even okad home Bas better not to get off here they have English explanation too I’m now going to take K’s special limited Express train blue symfony to yoso but it didn’t come interesting station you across the [Music] later there was an accident somewhere along the Mami oaka line and I thought I can take this if the train already passed that area where the accident happened but unfortunately it happened before it left the Osaka Z Bashi station they said the regular Express train is coming next to yoso so I said to take that at the Yoshino station oh the yoso station so this TR arrived 15 minutes late and my limit Express was supposed to a little earlier than this but look like the train still in Osaka aveno B station so this is sakuraa another kind of TR I don’t know what time the return TR will be because it’s not on schedule now so let’s see okay I checked in the luggage to the coin lo car I I have the yoso station so it’s a little far from yoso guci station and it was about more than 30 minutes I think so let’s explore yoso yoso is famous for the chair B so I’m not sure how the aut leave is but let’s go and there’s a you can walk up or take this cable car so so going up let’s try this cable car you can also walk up but it’s like a hiking to go up or being a very famous destination the ropeway looks very small and a little dated I arriv at yoso Yama station so it wasn’t very long Ro but I think going up is very difficult there lot of shop I’ve never seen this to let M [Music] leaves I that Ken the main things to see in the yoso is the kimen temple it’s the center of the shugendo an ancient Japanese Mountain religion the temple is dedicated to zaen the diet B for protection and spiritual guidance this is the wild Heritage K Temple for being on Saturday it’s very quiet I’m not sure because the kest St is not operating today I thought it would be more busy is famous for this kuk Kitty if you stay in some of the accommodations in yoso area you can attend the morning chant of the k s Temple but the accommodation are limited and mostly Japanese tiing only if you like to stay in the regular hotel with beds around this area it will be a little difficult for the major hotel either you go to kashihara like I did or might have to go back to Osaka along with the Ken Temple another world h in Yos is yoshimine yosim Yos is a mountain area in the central to southern part of Nara and because of its location in the mountain south of Kyoto it became a key role in Japanese history several times and the key places in yoso is this yoshim Shrine in front of the shrine there a where you can Overlook the body of yoso so probably it means at the ground you can see a thousand chome trees but definitely this is a place to come for the CH Blom so hard so usually in japanes shrines you crab two BS to crap and one bow at the end but this shrines you crap 17 times which is a traditional way of this Shrine so what the shrine pass was talking to another visitors was that the two B two crops is something government resed in in 19th century and but this Shrine still you’re supposed to do 17 crops and at shine you can enter this showing the main hall of the [Music] shrine this is where the warrior Minot spent his final days with his wife shizuka Gorden before losing his life at the age of 31 150 years later this place became important again when Emperor godo established his political Center here in opposition to kyotto as Nano you find bable National Treasures here and it’s must be B if you are interested in Japanese history this is a bu a SW one of the seven the b h this is the all the Emperors to show [Music] here I met a sailor from Nagasaki and we had some chat it was very interesting he traveled all over Japan and he found out that lots of different interesting places so he was telling me about different places and I memo I load down so I can go those places this year it was definitely a great encounter so it was great Sur I to [Music] visit so I I decid to check out yoso to see how it is but definitely it is a place to come for the CH Brom and other season there’s a little hot springs and some fun just like any place in the Japan but to enjoy yoso fully it’s definitely better to come for CH bom season [Music] some shops but look say there’s only one restaurant I’d like to proceed to yoso guci station station so looks like have to touch I card here [Music] I was the only one got off here Yosi station let’s go to the next destination I had lots of time until the next train so ICI to explore the station there AR anybody so I arrived at the Yos station doesn’t look like much looks like there a SES restaurant there here there are actually sweets and Cafe in it and you can eat it’s called yania and I want the a sushi kind of fish sushi never tried before so probably I can eat later tonight and let’s go back to the station very surprising really middle of Countryside I thought there AR anything but there a sweet shop and restaurant that you can sweet and UD seems both K and jail come to this platform I’m going to theama is a direction of the Gojo and Hashimoto and 249 to little waiting the heat are there now I’m saying goodbye to Nal I hope you enjoy the Nar n can be very interesting place for someone interested in Japanese history but even if you don’t know much some places are beautiful just for the scenery too as you see you can find less crowded places around the major cities like Osaka and Kyoto you might think it’s just because it’s off season and it is less clouded season after otum leaves but Kyoto I dropped by a few days after this is still very busy a lot more things to see and shops in Kyoto so I can say which is better if you stay out of the top spots definitely no night life and not many choices of hotels but if you worry about over tourism it’s good to know that you can add some to escape from it in your Ain without traving too much out of the golden [Music] route wakayama station this is a Jr station of wakama City so I at the wakayama station of wakayama city in wakayama prefecture in the next travel video I’d like to explore wakayama City before finishing the trip thank you for watching have a great trip to Japan have a great week and see the next video

First! Great video as always and your videos helped with my trip back in June ❤
Great info – however I suggest a microphone when recording on location, hard to hear .
This is about Asuka and Yoshino in Nara. Video of Nara City with deers 🫱🦌: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOi4EaLwu-E
Asuka Bus Route Map: https://www.narakotsu.co.jp/language/en/local/asuka.html
Nara is a beautiful area, I'm coming this spring! Thanks for the video
Don't forget to come to Okinawa, we have great food and friendly people like me! Take care
every place you visit is so beautiful and peaceful ☺️ very inspiring 🥰 I hope I can travel according to this itinerary, but unfortunately in rural areas it will be difficult for me to get facilities which are quite difficult to go up and down stairs 🥲but still thank you for showing me this beautiful view 😊 お疲れ様でした
Hi Kengo,
Another great installment of your Nara trip. It's good to see life away from the big cities. Calm and peaceful. Looking forward to your next video. Take care.
Amazing locations showcased in this video, I had never heard of this place until this video. It's a shame that the train didn't arrive but glad you were able to still get there without a problem.
I loved the autumn colours, it's such a shame that I missed it this year but I suppose the change in weather is to blame here! Always next time. What was your favourite thing on this trip Kenchan?
Excellent again , this is a good example for tourist who insist to stay on golden route but they are still able to avoid the crowd! It also shows Nara is more than just the deers and the city itself. The outskirts are just as wonderful to explore!
As pretty as Yoshino is during sakura, i think its autumn is quite lovely and with so few crowds, it is a good choice so one can get the retro vibes!
This would have been useful to me last year, I went to Yoshino even though it wasn't cherry blossom season and it was just full of empty trees… nice experience but you keep wondering what it would be like during blossom season
this must be the quietest place in Japan to visit. barely saw any people. the uncrowded spot I have ever been in December was Hakkoda Ropeway, Aomori, and it still has more people than in this video 😅
As always, a very good video, thank you so much for it. I look forward to see your video from Wakayama city, as I havent been there and I am curious what you will show us from there.
P.S. Too bad about the Blue Symphony train. In Switzerland, when there is an "accident" with trains, it always means that somebody commited suicide by jumping infront of a train. What a horrible way of dying, and I think the train conductor will also be very much traumatised. I hope, its not the same in Japan.
My first time visiting Japan, I wanted to spend more time in Nara because I heard overtourism from daytrippers was not benefitting them. I stayed 3 nights in Nara City, but I went down to Asuka one day to ride around on a bike to visit the sites. It was mid-December and raining, but it was still nice as I was probably the only one doing that. I went to 高松塚古墳, my main reason for going, but I visited the 亀石 and 石舞台. I didn't realize it, but 鬼の俎板 and 猿石 are not far from Asuka Station, and 牽牛子塚古墳 is behind it. There's lots of museums for archeology and tombs in the area to visit. Abd Tachibana-dera is nice (supposedly where Prince Shotoku was born). I didn't get to try Asuka-nabe though.
I really liked it and would go back again. I'd like to see Hasedera and Tsubosaka-dera. Maybe walk around the old town in Kashihara and visit Yoshino. And to see Horyuji.
A nice continuation of the theme of “off the beaten path” but interesting and beautiful places to visit. I’m sure that the independent traveler who wants to avoid the crowds will value this video
This is great Kengo san! I really appreciate your effort to showcase these places that are less popular. They look beautiful and peaceful.. The autumn leaves also add beauty on those places. Thank you for sharing this 👍
Omg it’s beautiful and the place looks soooo chill… I want to go 😉
14:17 wow, this must have been an interesting conversation.
I visited Nara in spring 2024, 3 days 2 nights. It was too short. Nara is the place I want to go back and stay longer.
Wonder what it's like in June
