New York Walking Tour: Gramercy Park, NYC’s Most Exclusive Neighborhood | 4K
Today we are in Gramercy Park, one of NYC’s most exclusive neighborhoods It is located on the East Side of Manhattan, just north of the East Village We are entering the historic district of the area It’s a small area but one of the most beautiful in all of NYC Many of the buildings have been around since the mid 1800’s Today is a cool and breezy Spring day Across the street to the left is the famous private park The buildings here are unique and some of the oldest in the city The townhouses on this block were built between 1840 and 1850 All the townhouses here have been meticulously maintained This is the private park, it’s proabably the most beautiful park in the city Only residents of the surrounding buildings have a key to this park. There are a few exceptions. The easiest way to see the park is if you are a guest of the Gramercy Park Hotel which is a couple of blocks away. Access is also given to members of The Players and the National Arts Club. Becoming a member of these two clubs is however very difficult. 🙁 The tree-lined neighborhood feels very different than any other part of the city Another view of this incredible park. So many unique buildings around the park This is 36 Gramercy Park, built in 1905 and one of the oldest apartment building in New York. Unfortunately, the scaffolding is blocking our view. It’s one of the most beautiful buildings in NYC. This is 34 Gramercy Park, built in 1883, is the oldest existing co-operative apartment building in the city. Many actors, actresses and artists live in the area including Jimmy Fallon, Julia Roberts, Uma Thurman, and Karl Lagerfeld. The Players is on the left and the National Arts Club is on the right. Unfortunately, the National Arts Club is undergoing some renovations. The National Arts Club is a private club, founded in 1898 by Charles DeKay, an art and literary critic of the New York Times, to promote public interest in the arts and to educate people in the fine arts. The Players is a private social club founded in New York City by the 19th-century Shakespearean actor Edwin Booth. We are now on Irving Place. It’s only 6 blocks long but is an extremely sought after address. The Ivy covered building on the corner is a very popular photo spot Caffè Panna serves italian inspired ice cream and coffee, it’s very popular and there’s always a line. Hallie Meyer, a Gramercy local, is the owner of Caffè Panna. She is the daugther of Danny Meyer, who owns Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern as well as Shake Shack. We are now on 19th Street between Irving Pl and 3rd Avenue. This is another block with great architecture. This is Pete’s Tavern on the right. It’s New York’s oldest surviving saloon. We are now leaving the historical district of Gramercy Park These next two blocks are technically part of Union Square but we’ll head north again to see some other areas of Gramercy. This is Park Avenue South which is the western border of Gramercy Park. Once you are outside of the historic district of the area, it has a completely different feel. We are now back on 22nd Street heading east We are on 3rd Avenue where it feels like many other parts of the city. We are close to 2nd Avenue fasr away from the historic district but there are still some interesting buildings. We are back in the historic district and you can immediately feel the change in architecture.

Gramercy Park is one of New York City’s most elegant and historic neighborhoods. Nestled in the heart of Manhattan, Gramercy Park offers a rare blend of old-world charm, architectural beauty, and serene, tree-lined streets — a true hidden gem just steps from the city’s hustle and bustle.
In this video, we’ll stroll through the neighborhood’s iconic brownstone-lined blocks, admire the 19th-century townhouses, and explore the unique atmosphere that has made Gramercy one of the most desirable places to live in NYC.
At the center of the neighborhood is Gramercy Park itself — one of only two private parks in New York City. Access is strictly limited to nearby residents who hold a coveted key, making this a true urban sanctuary. We’ll explain how access is granted, the rules surrounding the park, and why it remains a powerful symbol of exclusivity and prestige.
Whether you’re a New Yorker, a visitor, or someone who simply loves urban history and architecture, this tour offers a rare look into a neighborhood that feels frozen in time — refined, peaceful, and unmistakably elite.

I stayed at Hotel17, on 17th st, for a week back in '09 and just loved the area. Then drove to Canada for about 2 weeks and returned and stayed at Hotel Belleclarie on 77th and Broadway. Love NYC!
