🚌 How to Get to Kulai from Singapore?

Our journey begins at Johor Bahru Sentral (JB Sentral), where we hop on a local public bus to Kulai. Once there, we embark on an exciting day of food, history, and cultural discoveries.
🍽️ Kulai’s Must-Try Food & Cafés

Kulai is a food haven, offering a mix of traditional dishes and modern cafés. Start with a classic kopitiam breakfast at Tai Chiang Coffeeshop (大众咖啡店) before heading to Roti King Saleng, where their crispy, fluffy roti canai is a must-try. If you love desserts, don’t miss Lao Ban Beancurd (老伴豆花)—did you know this famous beancurd brand originated in Kulai? For something nutritious, Ming Xuan Lei Cha (明轩擂茶) serves one of the best Hakka Thunder Tea Rice in town.

If you’re craving noodles, head to Yun Yun Loy Wanton Noodle (远远来云吞面) for a taste of old-school wanton mee. Café lovers will enjoy Cafe Jufei (聚啡馆), a charming retro-themed spot, and Wuka Cafe, a cozy vintage café perfect for unwinding. Want a full Hakka meal? Hao Ke Fang (好客坊) is one of Kulai’s most well-known Hakka restaurants, while Like Mee Noodle House (赞麵館豬肉粉) serves hearty pork noodles that locals rave about.

For shopping, visit The Commune, Kulai’s latest and biggest shopping mall, before ending your food adventure at Kenangan Cafe, a laid-back spot to relax with a cup of coffee.
🎨 Kulai’s Hidden Art & Culture Spots

Beyond food, Kulai is rich in history and culture. Start at Jalan Ismail, the old town area, where heritage shophouses showcase Kulai’s past. If you love street art, check out Lorong Kita, Kulai’s answer to Penang’s wall murals. Another must-visit is Kelapa Sawit (沙威新村), a historic Hakka village known for its vibrant murals. Walk through the back alleys, where stunning paintings depict Hakka heritage.

For a spiritual experience, visit Hua Guo Shan Temple (花果山), also called Johor’s Temple of Wealth, where visitors come to pray for prosperity. If you visit during Chinese New Year, you might witness firecrackers and festive celebrations!

Our last stop is Putuo Village (古来普陀村), a peaceful retreat surrounded by lush bamboo forests. This 43-acre Buddhist sanctuary is home to Putuo Temple (古来普陀庙), which houses the largest indoor Guanyin statue in Southeast Asia. The temple’s bamboo-inspired architecture and intricate dragon sculpture make it a sight to behold.

Take the “Three Steps, One Bow” (三步一拜) pathway to the Purple Bamboo Valley (紫竹林), where Tibetan prayer flags flutter in the wind. The valley also features bamboo-themed eateries, seasonal art installations, and lantern displays during festivals like Chinese New Year. This year’s highlight is the majestic King Cobra lantern, celebrating the Year of the Snake.

After an adventure-filled day, we finally made it back to Kulai Bus Terminal and took the same bus home.
