桂沢湖は、桂沢ダムの完成によりできた大人造湖です。湖の周囲は62kmあり、森林にかこまれた自然景観の美しいところで、道立自然公園に指定されています。また、桂沢湖周辺は太古のロマンを秘めた化石の宝庫として世界的にも有名で、アンモナイトやその頃の生物の化石がこの地で多数発見されており、三笠市立博物館にもその一部を展示しています。湖では、四季の風景を楽しむことができます。
