Discovering Jiangxi: China’s Fairyland Mountain Villages

Join us as we continue our China Roadtrip Series with a journey through China’s fairyland province: Jiangxi.

Locations in this Vlog:

Wuyuan/Shangrao 上饶
Wuyuan, on the boundary of three provinces in Jiangxi’s northeastern corner, has a landscape dotted with strange caves, deep secluded rocks and numerous historic sites. Wuyuan County is home to some of the best-preserved ancient architecture in China. Wuyuan’s structures were built in 740 during the Tang Dynasty, its remoteness and inconvenient transportation protecting its villages from too many visitors.
Wuyuan, known as the “most beautiful countryside in China”, with at least 50 old villages, is located northeast of Jiangxi Province, and near Mt Huangshan and Jingdezhen. Local people there can enjoy the pure, clean brooks, seemingly delicate wooden buildings, unique bridges as well as the tranquil lifestyle, etc…

Huangling Scenic Area (篁岭):
Famous for its traditional practice of drying crops in the sun (晒秋), with colorful peppers, corn, and other produce displayed on bamboo trays.
The village is perched on a hillside, offering breathtaking views of terraced fields and surrounding mountains. A cable car ride is available for a stunning aerial view.

Wunüzhou Resort (婺女洲度假区):
Located on a picturesque island in the middle of a river, Wunüzhou Resort is a perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
“Da Tie Hua” (打铁花): This traditional performance involves throwing molten iron into the air, creating a dazzling fireworks-like display. It originated as a folk art in ancient China and is now a rare and captivating spectacle.

Wangxian Valley (望仙谷):
Afterwards we uncovered the tranquil valley with waterfalls, forested trails, and beautiful mountain scenery. It felt like stepping into a fairytale fantasy world. The area offers a profound journey through the harmonious trio of natural landscapes, human heritage, and legendary tales that transcends the ordinary. Here, it invits all who wander its paths to step into a story where every nook is a verse, every vista a painting, and every moment an ode to the enduring dance of nature, culture, and myth.

  1. Wow, I can't live in those hanging building or walk on the hanging wooden bride! It is too scary! It is not worth it to me. Love the remote atmosphere with their preserved life style. Thanks for sharing and for your hard work. ♥️💓🌷🌹🇨🇳🇬🇧👍

  2. The buildings on the canyon side were breathtaking! If there were autumn colors, I'd bet this place would be like Rivendell with all the water and beautiful, wooden structures 😊. The molten iron fireworks were magnificent! I especially liked the one that looked like a flaming sword being swung around. I'm impressed by the two performers who were balancing decorative, top-heavy posts. To run around and do balancing and throwing tricks on what I imagine was very wet and slick stone was incredible. Kudos to Miu and you for being able to drive for 7 to 8 hours and on small roads that were not highways!

  3. Beautiful vlog again such amazing buildings built on the side of the cliffs not sure if I would live in one but really beautiful sceneary and firework displays. Stay safe you two xx🎆🎇🧨🧨🥡🥢

  4. Wuyuan is one of my favorite places to excape from the city crowd and noise. I enjoy to stay in a small hotel room in a traditional building, drinking tea, watching the clouds and rains in spring, and find every plants become vivid again.

  5. One of the characteristics of rainy days in winter is that it can give the countryside and small towns a nostalgic atmosphere of the 80s.

  6. I have been following you mainly for your unique and subtle style. Keep up with good effort and wish all the success in the future. Thank you for sharing.

  7. You made some of the scenes look like they came from Hollywood movies; you should become a professional movie director of producer. 😂
