Matsushima and Fukuurajima (4K) (Virtual Tour)
After returning from Yamadera ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jBcIQ0BboU ) and changing into something more suited to the heat of the day, I was keen to make the most of the fine weather and get to the coast. Matsushima Bay is ideally a place to spend several days to enjoy a cruise around the islands, and to explore the surrounding area, but at minimum I had time to walk the waterfront and cross the Fukuurabashi bridge to the island.
Before the bridge you are greeted by the adorable acorn-esque mascot figure. On the island, be careful to stick to the path, as orb spiders weave giant webs between trees! There was a warning sign near the viewing point that said to be cautious of hornets – and as I saw it, I heard a buzzing past my ear… and spotted the culprit amongst the branches. There was an even clearer shot at one later, taking a drink in a gutter. Thankfully they were not in an aggressive season!
I had considered staying into the evening, but the heat – and the crowds – got the better of me, and I felt the need to retreat somewhere off the tourist trail…
