The villagers were pleasantly surprised and immediately discussed and decided to nominate the prestigious elders in the tribe – Xiangjin and Xiangyin of the Dong ethnic group, and Gongxie of the Miao ethnic group as representatives, and carry precious treasures to go to heaven to buy songs. The three shouldered the trust of the villagers, went through thousands of difficulties and dangers, and finally achieved their goal… Since then, during the Spring Festival, the Dong ethnic group has started the “Stepping Song Hall” activity.
In ancient times, the Dong people lived in barren mountainous areas and could not face various challenges independently. This sacrificial activity can be participated by up to thousands of people, becoming a powerful bond for the Dong clan society. The double-layer circle dance and the hand-in-hand and shoulder-to-shoulder movements show the collective consciousness of the Dong people.
