1984年9月14日　長野県西部地震の際御嶽山の山体崩壊から引き起こされた土石流が王滝川に流れ込み、堰き止められ、深い谷間の森が沈み形成された天然湖。
立ち枯れた木々は年々その数を減らしつつあり、貴重な神秘的な雰囲気が漂う湖の景色となっています。
湖底からガスが噴出しているため凍った湖面にはいくつもの穴が開いています。凍てついた湖面はさらに神秘的な自然の姿を見ることができました。

On September 14, 1984, during the Nagano Prefecture Western Earthquake, a debris flow triggered by the collapse of Mount Ontake’s mountainside flowed into the Ōtaki River, damming it and submerging the deep valley forest, forming a natural lake.

The number of standing dead trees has been decreasing year by year, creating a rare and mystical landscape.

Due to gas emissions from the lake bottom, multiple holes appear on the frozen lake surface. The frozen lake presents an even more mysterious and captivating natural spectacle.
