Thank you for introducing this Toji Life with us, thats really interesting. The outdoor baths look so amazing, and it must be wonderful in winter, with the snow. The body in the hot bath, and the head in the fresh winter air.
I think I would stay 2 nights, and on one night cook, and on the other night, eat a cooked meal in the dining hall.
My only "problem" with this inn, is not having a toilet in the room.

When you started cooking, I wondered what dish you were going to make. They were the same ingredients as for Dutch 'hutspot'. Now I might try it Japanese style.

I wouldn't be able to immerse well into the Toji life, tbh. I'm not big on sharing everything with strangers. Here in Canada, sharing a house with strangers is already a pain in the heiny. It's better to live with your family, really.

Of all onsen review videos on youtube, your's is by far the best. Very informative even without the narration. Question, after having watched a number of your videos. Are most onsens, even remote ones friendly and accepting of non-Japanese speakers? I ask because a lot of the ryokans tend to be very personal in their service – from the introduction and welcome to explaining meals, etc. Thank you!

I really enjoyed this video. It was very different from the luxury accommodation usually shown and I think this type of accommodation would be wonderful to experience. I'm not sure if anyone else got the impression the Onsen was a bit spooky, but I definitely got that vibe. I'm not sure how spooky will translate in the Japanese language but, in the English language, it is a special vibe you get from ancient, historic or even tragic locations. I love this video! It shows more of a cultural side of onsen, away from the glamour and slick convenience of most tourist onsen.
I feel like this could be a great getaway for a 2-week stay. Just take a bus and train into town for groceries every 3 or 4 days, and otherwise just relax.
Also maybe a great way to counteract feelings of loneliness, as it's a more socially-open and less exclusive sort of stay. (I'd love to sit and just chat with someone over slow-cooking dinner.)

People in Japan must work at having excellent posture, as traditional accommodation has no chairs or place to rest your back! Shared bathroom makes sense because baths are shared. I would like to stay here as a Canadian but maybe in spring or autumn ☺️
Cubes of beef tallow are so smart and something we never see in Canada! That is such a perfect looking carrot!

Beautiful. I’ve only ever been to Tokyo, where one could easily spend weeks trying to see everything, but it is on my bucket list to travel to northern Japan in the winter.
This particular onsen is probably not for me. Perhaps a bit too traditional for my western tastes, but I can still appreciate that many others would like it for a trip back in time. If you remove the TV from the room, it probably looks almost exactly like it did 50-70 years ago, maybe more. I’m also not a fan of places that charge extra for every little thing, but again, that may appeal to people who want to travel there with their own food, towels, heater, bedding, etc., or those looking to get away for very little money.
