I visited Ebina Station in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. That night, the air was clear and the stars twinkled as if whispering against the silhouette of the seven-storied pagoda. This seven-storied pagoda is a modern-day revival of the remains of Sagami Kokubunji Temple, and stands like a bridge connecting the past and the future. Next to it, a modern station building emits the lights of a futuristic city, and countless lights dance against the night sky.
It’s hard to believe that Ebina Station is said to be in danger of being swallowed up by the floods of the Sagami River, but the view from the deck is so divine that it somehow feels like salvation. The path of light spreading beneath your feet is like a ray of hope floating in a chaotic reality. I want you to feel the soul of this place through a virtual walk.
The area around Ebina Station is an area with a unique landscape where history and modernity are intricately intertwined. The seven-storied pagoda is a one-third scale reproduction of the seven-storied pagoda of Sagami Kokubunji, which was built in the mid-eighth century, and its majestic appearance continues to captivate people’s hearts even beyond time. As redevelopment progresses, modern urban functions centered around Vina Walk at the east exit and historical heritage maintain an exquisite harmony.
On the other hand, there is a lurking risk of natural disasters in this area. This is an area where rivers such as the Sagami River and the Megujiri River flow, and there are concerns about flood damage. The hazard maps distributed by the city are an important tool for encouraging residents to prepare for disasters. However, despite this, the people of Ebina have planted roots in this area and are building a future while respecting the past.
