Tokyo Guided Tour from Local Volunteers in English around Asakusa

I took an official Tokyo volunteer guide tour of Asakusa in English ➡️ https://www.gotokyo.org/en/guide-services/asakusa-night/index.html here’s my experience! Tokyo offers volunteer guided tours, this one free for visiting Asakusa – one of 16 routes from GoTokyo site. Two English speaking guides can take up to 5 people. Some routes have a minimal charge like tea ceremony but I found this to be an incredible opportunity for all travelers to Tokyo, in multiple other languages – the volunteer guides are a fun & informational gateway to Japanese culture, history, local knowledge and sometimes your first friend in Japan! I learned a lot I didn’t know about my city even after 25 years of living here!

  1. All the love for volunteer tour guides! So wonderful this tour is free! 🫶

  2. Stayed in this area for several days in 2023, but just across the River (super quiet) Got to walk past this everyday..not a bad base of operation. Also is a bit quicker to Narita.

  3. Always surprised to hear you say Asak*U*sa, even when Japanese will say Asaksa and you are fluent in Japanese….

Have had some volunteer guides elsewhere, and while I do very much appreciate their efforts, the information they provide is sometimes a bit of a mixed bag. Some tell just the basic facts you might as well get from a pamflet, but at Matsuyama Castle I had one that went way too far in depth about every little detail and historic event. While I loved her enthousiams, it was all a bit much. Data overload….
