Tojinbo, located in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, is one of Japan’s most dramatic coastal landscapes, famous for its towering cliffs and columnar jointing formed from volcanic activity millions of years ago. The rugged terrain offers breathtaking views of the Sea of Japan and is a popular spot for sightseeing. Visitors can enjoy walking along the cliffs, exploring nearby attractions like the serene Oshima Island, or taking a boat tour to see the cliffs from the sea. The area is rich in natural beauty and history, providing an escape into Japan’s unique geological and cultural heritage.

During March 2021, at the height of the pandemic, the usually bustling Tojinbo saw far fewer visitors. This provided a rare, tranquil atmosphere for appreciating the cliffs’ natural beauty without the usual crowds.
