The Uncharted Kyoto By The Sea – Amanohashidate & Ine Funaya | 海之京都 – 天橋立,大自然的馈赠。 伊根の舟屋,民族的传承

Amanohashidate is a scenic sandbar located in Miyazu Bay, in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The name “Amanohashidate” translates to “bridge to heaven” in Japanese. This natural formation is considered one of the Three Views of Japan, along with Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture and Miyajima in Hiroshima Prefecture.

The sandbar is about 3.6km long and covered with around 8,000 pine trees. It spans across the mouth of Miyazu Bay and is best viewed from either the northern or southern ends, or from the mountains on either side, particularly from the Kasamatsu Park and the View Land observatories. When viewed from a specific angle, it appears as though a bridge is connecting the heavens and the earth. Amanohashidate has been a popular destination for tourists and locals alike for centuries. It’s especially beautiful during the cherry blossom season in spring and the colorful foliage of autumn.

Ine Funaya, also known as Ine no Funaya, is a traditional fishing village located in Ine, a coastal town in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. What makes Ine Funaya unique are its “funaya,” which are traditional wooden boathouses built along the waterfront. These structures have a distinct architectural design with living quarters on the second floor and space for boats on the first floor, effectively serving as both homes and boat garages.

Ine Funaya has become a popular tourist destination, offering visitors a glimpse into traditional Japanese coastal life. Some funaya have been converted into guesthouses, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience staying in these historic buildings while enjoying the tranquil atmosphere of the fishing village. Additionally, tourists can take boat tours around the bay to appreciate the picturesque scenery of the village from the water.
