An exploratory walk in Heisenji Town in Katsuyama City, Fukui, Japan, around dusk was a unique experience. I did this without knowing anything in the town beforehand. As the name suggests, the town is centered around the famous Heisenji Temple. Here, you’ll encounter an exceptionally quiet, authentic, and sparsely populated Japanese countryside town. It isn’t touristic, allowing you to witness what life in a real Japanese village is truly like. The walk starts at Minamidani Excavation Site, located in the depths of the village.
