Egota Hikawa Shrine is the guardian shrine of the Egota district in Nakano Ward.
Founded in the Muromachi period, it is a historic shrine where the pre-war shrine building remains, having escaped the fires of war.
The shrine enshrines Susanoo-no-Mikoto, and is said to grant protection from misfortune and bring good fortune.
The annual festival of Ekoda Hikawa Shrine is held on the first Saturday and Sunday of October every year.
The most distinctive feature is the lion dance (Sanbiki Shishimai), an intangible folk cultural asset designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which is dedicated until late at night.
This lion dance has a history of over 700 years and was protected by the Edo Shogunate.
The “Oneri Procession” held on Shin-Ome Kaido features a spectacular and impressive procession of portable shrines, drums, lion dances, and festival floats.
The shrine also has many floats, making it a lively festival that lasts all day.
