⁴ᴷ Iwate: Sakanacho Shopping Street (岩手県: 肴町商店街) – Japan Walking Tour (August, 2024)
During the first three days of the Obon holiday, I traveled to Morioka City in Iwate Prefecture and started my photography at Sakana-machi Shopping Street. The arcade shopping street is quite impressive, but it felt a bit lonely as there weren’t many people around. The centerpiece of the shopping street, Nanak, closed about five years ago, and before that, it was a department store. The area likely used to be more vibrant. The surrounding town also has charming buildings and streets, giving off the atmosphere of a former castle town.
