This summer festival is held around the annual festival of Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine, the head shrine of Hikawa Shrine. On the first day, the floats of Miyamachi, Daimonmachi, Nakamachi, Shimomachi, and Yoshikimachi, which were purified in the annual festival, as well as gorgeous adult and children’s mikoshi, parade around the east exit of Omiya Station, attracting many spectators. On the second day, in addition to the mikoshi parade and the float parade, various events can be enjoyed at various locations, such as the folk dance ring dance performed by many dancers, Awa Odori, and Japanese drum performances.
Ladder climbing is a variety of performances that include the movement of searching for fires from the top of a ladder. It is said that it originated from the skills that were acquired by the castle town firefighters and yakuza who were able to determine the direction of fires. The supporter holds the ladder only at the top of the ladder, and the climber climbs the ladder without a safety rope and performs the performance.
The ladder serves as a turret for checking the fire scene and as a life-saving device, and they have been training hard every day for this purpose. The ladder used for ladder climbing is 6.5m high, consists of 15 rungs (for the feet) and is made of brand new green bamboo. In order to support this ladder with only 12 rungs and keep it stable, the skill and coordination between the performer on the swaying ladder and the person supporting the ladder from below is the key, and it can be said that the strong bond is the secret to creating a great performance. Additionally, ladder climbing styles can be broadly divided into three types, which can be further subdivided into as many as 48 types.
