The Plum Festival, a seasonal event in the summer loved by people in the surrounding area, is held every year on July 20th.

The origin of the Plum Festival dates back to the time of the Zenkunen no Eki (war of the nineteenth year) in the Heian period, when Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and Yoshiie, father and son, prayed for victory at Okunitama Shrine, and plums were one of the offerings given as thanks. Plums have been considered a fruit that can ward off evil spirits since ancient times. This led to the establishment of a plum market in the shrine grounds, which is the origin of this festival.

■Date and time of festival: Every year on July 20th, from 8:00 a.m.
■Number of worshippers: Approximately 70,000 people, most crowded around noon and in the evening
