1泊2日で巡る別府旅行 A two-day, one-night trip to Beppu

We are going on a tight trip to Beppu for two days and one night. We will take a shuttle bus to the airport from the hotel next to the airport where we stayed the night before. It’s nice weather. The flight time is 1 hour and 40 minutes. Luckily, we had a seat with a view of Mt. Fuji. While looking at the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, It was a good time for the flight. When I arrived at the airport, Alien U’s foot bath suddenly appeared. This is useful while waiting for a flight or bus. There is no train from the airport to Beppu, so, you will have to travel by bus, taxi, rental car, etc. Since our trip is short, we will rent a car to get around efficiently. We want to check into the hotel by 3pm and relax, so we’ll complete the Tour of Jigoku before then. This is unrelated, but the Prius is a wonderful car. We live in the Kanto region and are thrilled with palm trees. "Tour of Jigoku is extensive. It would take a full day to explore the area thoroughly. The distance from the Kannawa area to the Tatsumaki area is about 2.5 kilometers, and it takes about 30 minutes to walk there. If you are heading directly from Oita Airport, it is most efficient to go to Tatsumki Jigoku and Chinoike Jigoku first. Each JIGOKU facility has free parking, which is convenient. Let’s buy tickets. We recommend the 7 JIGOKU combined ticket. This ticket can only be used once and is valid for two days. The TATSUMAKI JIGOKU erupts approximately every 30 minutes, so we check the start time and watch the CHINOIKE JIGOKU first. Each JIGOKU has a souvenir shop, but you cannot re-enter, so it’s a good idea to buy souvenirs before you leave. As the name suggests, a blood-colored pond appeared. This pond produces Blood Pond Ointment, which is effective against skin diseases. Spring temperature is 78℃. The nearby waterfalls and ponds provide a refreshing cool feeling. There is also a foot bath here. It was almost time for the hot springs to erupt, so we came to TATSUMAKI JIGOKU. Spring temperature is 105℃. Hot spring water gushes out from here every 30 minutes. Temperatures above the boiling point are amazing. We wait while eating kabosu gelato, a specialty of Oita. We were caught off guard and the hot spring suddenly erupted. It seems that geysers with such a short cycle are rare around the world. Without the stone enclosure, the hot spring would gush up 30 meters. There are seats available where you can watch even if it rains. Next, we move to the KANNAWA area. It takes about 5 minutes by car from the TATSUMAKI area to the KANNAWA area. The steam from KANNAWA is now visible. If we had more time, we would have liked to go to the observation deck. There is a tourist information center at the KANNAWA bus stop, which is convenient. We have lunch before watching the next JIGOKU. 《JIGOKUMUSHIKOBO KANNAWA》 First, let’s drink some hot spring water. The temperature is 98°C. Be careful not to get burned. It tastes like dashi soup. The hot spring water is too strong for children to drink. Even on a weekday, the wait was 40 minutes. It’s extremely popular. First, purchase a meal ticket from the ticket machine. While waiting, we took a stroll around KANNAWA. Steam is coming out from everywhere, making this the place that most feels like Beppu. During the KAMAKURA era, a monk seems to have pioneered KANNAWA. This building is a sauna where you can enjoy the aroma and sweating. There are quaint streets everywhere. After a nice walk, it’s time for lunch. You place your ordered food in the hot spring steamer yourself. We waited 15 minutes. We had a seafood set, pork buns, and eggs, which we put into the hot spring steamer. This pork bun was very tasty. It takes just 3 minutes on foot to get to Shiraike JIGOKU from the restaurant where we had lunch. We go up a small slope called Miyukizaka. Spring temperature is 95℃. The colorless spring water turns blue when it enters the pond. There is also a tropical fish aquarium that uses hot springs. Oniyama Jigoku is a two-minute walk from Shiraike Jigoku. Spring temperature is 99.1℃. It really feels like hell. The force of the hot spring is amazing. About 80 crocodiles are kept here using the heat from the hot springs. Next is Kamado JIGOKU, located across the street from Oniyama JIGOKU. The name "Kamado JIGOKU" comes from the fact that food was cooked using steam in the past. You can see various JIGOKU from 1st to 6th chome. Be careful, this steam is 100°C. It looks very hot, but it’s also very clear and beautiful. This pond is milky white. It’s amazing to see so many different coloured jigoku in one place. This vapor is good for your throat and skin when inhaled through your nose. Here you can enjoy steam on your hands and feet. Just like the restaurant we visited earlier, you can drink hot spring water here too. Next is the bedrock bath for your feet. My wife tried it first. It was so hot she couldn’t stand it. I also tried it, I didn’t feel that hot. There is a large foot bath here and you can also eat Jigokumushi pudding. Umi Jigoku is a 7-minute walk from Kamado Jigoku. If you are coming from Beppu Station, this is the starting point for your JIGOKU tour. Suddenly a huge garden appeared. Beppu Onsen is a place with ties to the Imperial family. Apparently many emperors have visited here since ancient times. Umi Jigoku is located just past the large souvenir shop. Spring temperature is 99.1℃. This is the most impressive and beautiful of all the JIGOKUs. There is a beautiful shrine so we visited it. Hakuryu Inari Taishin Finally, we introduce Oniishibouzu Jigoku. Oniishibouzu Jigoku is located next to Umi Jigoku. It’s a very quiet and peaceful hell. Spring temperature is 99℃. The name comes from the fact that the mud gushing out resembles a monk’s head. Each JIGOKU is well maintained and there are plenty of spots to take pictures. We left Oita Airport around 10AM and finished touring JIGOKU at 3:30PM. We hurried to the hotel. Our purpose is to have afternoon tea at this hotel. This service is only available until 4pm so we made it just in time. Even though it’s free, if we eat it all we won’t have dinner. This is the hotel where we stayed this time. ANA InterContinental Beppu Resort & Spa It was the perfect hotel to spend time with someone special. We’ll tell you more about this hotel in another video. Next morning, The flight is at 12:25pm, so we stop at a few tourist spots on our way to the airport. First, we went to the Myoban Onsen Yunohana harvesting area near the hotel. This is hot spring mineral deposits. I bought some to try, and it smelled like sulfur, which made me feel like I was in a hot spring. Finally, we stopped off at Kitsuki Castle, which is 20 minutes away from Oita Airport. The castle is vast. A magnificent gate came into view. It seems we still have a long way to go before we reach the castle tower. Over 170 different stone structures were relocated to Kitsuki Castle, They are preserved as stone cultural properties. This is a stone structure from the mid-Edo period. Finally, the stone wall came into view. The castle tower was rebuilt recently and is a magnificent structure. This castle is a natural fortress surrounded by the mouth of the Yasaka River and Morie Bay, During the Sengoku period, the Shimazu and Otomo armies clashed, After a two-month siege, the Otomo armies defeated the Shimazu armies. Because our flight time is approaching, we give up on entering the castle. It was truly an impregnable castle. We made it in time for the flight. End our trip to Beppu with this Jigokumushi pudding. If you fly with Solaseed Air, be sure to try the ago yuzu soup. The flying fish and yuzu soup is very delicious. Even so, the two days and one night went by in a flash. There were many places I wanted to see, such as Mount Tsurumi and the Yukemi Observatory, Just touring JIGOKU is enough to fill our schedule in one day. It may take three days to go to Yufuin. Our trip ends with a view of Mt. Omuro and Mt. Fuji. I hope this video will be helpful to you.
