千葉県香取市の水郷佐原山車会館。
小江戸とも呼ばれる佐原の江戸優りと言われた文化。「佐原の山車行事」や「佐原囃子」はユネスコ無形文化遺産にも指定されています。そんな「佐原の大祭」で使われるのが山車とそれに乗る大人形たちです。お祭りには行けなくても山車と大人形たちにはいつでも会えます。人の腕ほどもある鼻を持つ天狗や４m近い大きさの武士。山車の全体は高さ９m、重さは４トンを超えるといいます。とにかく巨大な人形や山車が好きって人にはたまらないはず。

Sawara, also known as “Little Edo,” has a culture that is said to be superior to that of Edo. Sawara’s “Sawara float events” and “Sawara music” have been designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The floats and the large dolls that ride on them are used in the Sawara Grand Festival. Even if you cannot go to the festival, you can always see the floats and the big dolls. There is a tengu with a nose as long as a person’s arm, and a samurai nearly four meters in height. The entire float is said to be 9 meters high and weighs over 4 tons. If you like huge dolls and floats, you will love this place.
