【必見】船旅で大人の夏休み!歴史を楽しむシティーツアー|海外旅行・オーストリア7月観光編

That day, we finally set off on a roughly two-week Danube River cruise from Passau in southern Germany. As we mentioned in our previous Passau video, here’s the cruise itinerary. Since cruise ship check-in wasn’t until the evening, we will first introduce a sunset cruise and our room. The next day, we toured Vienna, Austria, so this time, we mainly want to show you the highlights of Vienna. Ah, nice! Is that Austria over there? Yeah, Austria. The water surface looks really nice, doesn’t it? Right? It’s beautiful. I wonder if that ship is also from Nicko Cruises? Maybe. It had "Belvedere" written on it earlier. A sister ship, I guess? Before we arrived in Vienna, we had some time to film inside the room. The Bolero’s guest rooms are spread over three floors, and our room was on the second floor. The bed was a double. The TV was a small, wall-mounted type, with cruise information and sparkling water. Water was provided daily during housekeeping. You could get water at the reception anytime! (Both sparkling and still were available) To the right was the closet, and to the left was the bathroom. The shower room was a bit small, and if you turned the water on too much, it would leak out from under the glass, so be careful. There was only one type of soap, so we brought our own beauty products from home. As for drinks on the ship, including the water in the room, you either pre-order a drink package or pay per item, so we pre-ordered them. On our way to Vienna, we passed through a lock. Locks are used to adjust the water level for ships passing through waterways and canals. During the cruise, we went through many locks! Gradually, the water level adjustment began. The gap between the cruise ship and the walkway was really narrow. It’s quite fascinating! As the adjustment progressed, the water level around the ship gradually lowered. (This is sped up 1.5 times). Finally, the ship was completely submerged. On the last day, we visited the company that manages locks in Austria, so look forward to that. Having arrived at the port, we headed to the center of Vienna on the tour bus. After a while, we started to see lots of graffiti along the riverbank. According to the guide, this is a place where anyone can enjoy graffiti. Indeed, having a designated place allows those who enjoy it to have fun and helps maintain the city’s appearance. We continued on the bus tour around the city, listening to the guide’s explanations. Arrived at Volksgarten. This area is a rose garden. There are many beautiful colored roses. Further in, there was a neatly arranged garden. The statue on the other side is of Sisi. It was errected in honor of Elizabeth (Sisi) the former Empress of Austria-Hungary. Sisi was a figure who made her mark from the mid to the late 19th century, known for her beauty, her quirky side, and the many tragedies she faced throughout her life. We then headed to the nearby Hofburg Palace. Hofburg Palace was used as the residence of the Habsburg empire’s royalty and emperors, a historical building. The palace features a mix of architectural styles such as Baroque, Renaissance, and Gothic, telling its rich history. In front is the Sisi Museum. To the left was a statue of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Emperor Franz Joseph I was the emperor of Austria-Hungary, a historical figure who ruled the empire for a long time. He is widely known as a symbolic figure of the Austria-Hungary Empire, along with his relationship with Sisi and other historical events. Emperor Franz Joseph I is an important figure for understanding the political, cultural, and social aspects of his era. Nearby is the famous Demel cafe, which we wanted to visit, but there was a risk of losing the guide and missing the return bus, so we decided to stick with the tour. Usually, we don’t join tours much, but on this cruise, we mostly chose tours. There’s often a considerable distance from the port to the city center, and in many countries, taxi apps aren’t well-developed, so joining tours felt safer and more convenient. But Germany to Austria is so close, we think we’ll come back by car another time. This St. Stephen’s Cathedral was built by the same people who constructed the St. Stephen’s Cathedral we posted about in Passau. According to the guide, the front of the church is carved with monsters and sinful things, while the back has morally good things carved into it. It seems to symbolize transitioning from a sinful life before entering the church to a good life once inside. Once we went inside, we were surprised by the crowd. But the interior was so beautiful, we understood why. This place is known as the venue for Mozart’s wedding. The sound of horses’ hooves was comforting and very soothing. In Vienna, you can find horse-drawn carriages everywhere. It’s the perfect way for tourists to enjoy the beautiful cityscape and sightseeing spots of Vienna at a leisurely pace, isn’t it? The Anker Clock is a mechanical clock installed in the aerial corridor connecting two buildings of the Ankerhof. Every time the clock strikes the hour, figures representing historical personalities with deep connections to Vienna appear. These figures make a full round in 12 hours, and at noon, there’s a parade featuring all the figures. Unfortunately, it was already past 3 pm that day. During the Advent season, Christmas songs play every day at 5 pm. Someday, we’d love to visit during the Christmas season. After walking around for half a day, it seemed like all the guests were resting in their rooms. We were exhausted too… Interestingly, aside from us, the other guests were surprisingly in their 60s to 80s (maybe it’s because the cruise was longer?). When we set off, we passed under several bridges. The clearance was so low, it felt like you could almost reach out and touch them. It’s a height where you’d bump your head if you stood up. You have to be careful not to get too distracted walking around, as the next bridge comes up quickly. As we left Vienna, it was already thoroughly dusk. In about 45 minutes to an hour from there, we passed through Bratislava, Slovakia. Of course, we were going to visit Bratislava too, but that day we just passed through on our way to Hungary. That’s it for our Vienna trip. But our journey along the Danube continues. Next time, we’ll have a travel video from Hungary, Puszta. Subscribe and hit the like button! Take care! See you in the next video! Tschüss!
