This time, I visited the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum in Saitama Prefecture to witness the arrival of an early spring.

Stepping into the lobby, I was greeted by a magnificent Camellia japonica (玉之浦椿), a sure sign of the season’s change. As I entered the bonsai garden, a centuries-old Japanese black pine (黒松) named “Lion’s Dance” (獅子の舞) stood tall, exuding a powerful presence. Winter cherry blossoms (寒桜) and plum trees (梅) were in full bloom, adding vibrant colors to the landscape.

Among the many captivating specimens, the five-needle pine (五葉松) named “Chiyo no Matsu” (千代の松) stood out. This majestic bonsai is one of the largest in the museum, boasting a height of 1.6 meters and a width of 1.8 meters. Its 500-year-old trunk emanated an awe-inspiring sense of strength and vitality.
