一日乗車券で巡る京都市バスの旅 京都歴史探訪08 五條天神宮
A shrine located in front of the Nishinotoin Matsubara bus stop. This is Gojo Tenshingū Shrine. Although it is called Tenshingū , the enshrined deity is not Michizane. The main deity is Sukunabikona no Mikoto. The secondary deities are Oonamuji no Mikoto and Amaterasu Omikami. It was founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai at the same time as the capital was moved to Heian in 794 at the request of Emperor Kanmu. Amatsuka was solicited from Uda District, Yamato Province. It is the oldest company in Rakuchu. It was originally called "Tenshi no Miya" or "Tenshisha." Let’s overlay the current map with the map of Heian Palace. From east to west are Nishinotoin Street and Abura-no-koji Street. From north to south are Matsubara Street and Manjuji Street. This area roughly corresponds to the grid of Heian-kyo. This area seems to have been the precincts at the time of its construction. Incidentally, the current Matsubara Street was originally Gojo Street. As part of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Kyoto Redevelopment Plan, it was relocated to the current location of Gojo Street. And so, the old Gojo Street became Matsubara Street. At the same time, a land readjustment project known as Tensho Chiwari was also carried out. This involved the construction of new alleys running north and south through the center of the square jobbo, dividing it into left and right halves. Higashinakasuji Street was also built in the shrine forest of Gojo Tenjingu Shrine. It is said that the street was called Tenshi-Totsu-Nuki Street because it ran through the middle of Tenshi-no-miya Shrine. The name remains in the names of the streets from Tenshi-Totsu-Nuki 1-Chome to 4-Chome. Many temples have been relocated in this Tensho area. However, even Taiko, as you would expect, limited his work at Gojo Tenjingu Shrine to building a path through the shrine forest. The main deity, Sukunahikona no Mikoto, is considered the ancestor of medicine. From the Muromachi period onwards, prayers to ward off illnesses were frequently performed. In the precincts, there is a statue called Isojin Isibumi, which praises the young doctor Hikona no Mikoto. Translating the inscription written there into modern language… Oh, how wonderful! Sukahikomakami is It helps people widely maintain the peace of the country and people The origin of medicine began with this deity. Raise the dead and make the old young again This divine blessing spread throughout the world The benevolence of this deity is also no less Shrine rituals continue forever Merits are new every day The "Gikeiki" depicts Minamoto no Yoshitsune and his master and servants. This story is thought to have been written between the Nanboku-cho period and the early Muromachi period. Gojo Tenshingū Shrine is depicted as the place where Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Musashibo Benkei met. Gojo Ohashi Bridge is famous as the place where the two met, but in this i ” Gikeiki” it is called Gojo Tenshingū Shrine. After this, the two men fight again at Otowa Falls at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, where Benkei becomes Yoshitsune’s retainer. There are banners featuring Benkei and Yoshitsune in the Matsubara Kyogoku Shopping Street on Matsubara Street. In the Detective Conan movie version of ”Crossroads of the Labyrinth,” this ”Gikeiki” is the key to solving the mystery. In the process of solving the mystery, Conan and Heiji both visit Gojo Tenjingu Shrine. Gojo Tenshingū Shrine is a sacred place for Detective Conan. If you’re interested, check out the movie. On Setsubun, February 3rd, from 10am to 6pm, visitors who request one will be given a treasure ship picture. A simple treasure ship carrying a bunch of ears of rice on a small boat. It is said to be the oldest treasure ship map in Japan, and is said to have the benefit of warding off evil and illness. Gojo Tenshingū Shrine has been protecting the people of the capital since the capital was moved to Heian. I hope that they will continue to protect the peace of Kyoto and the people of the capital. Access from Kyoto Station. Take bus 50 system from Kyoto Station Karasuma Exit B2 bus stop. The journey takes about 7 minutes. Get off at Nishinotoin Matsubara. It is a short walk from the stop.
