What $400 Gets You at Japan’s Most Luxurious Onsen
welcome to Roto Japan recently the hotels in Tokyo are getting more and more expensive so people started asking me like is there anywhere else nice just outside Toyo so today I came to nigata only like 70 minutes away because there’s one place I always wanted to visit and stay so I’ll show you where that is let’s go what’s that you’ve never heard of n dat Japan isn’t just Anime and robots my friend it’s time to head out into the countryside a little bit today we are heading to Ichigo yuzawa a famous ski resort full of traditional Japanese on sense but recently this area has become a hub for some of the biggest events in Japan Fuji Rock and even Spartan races where Lessa YouTubers fail to do old obstacles are held here so it’s a perfect place for you to stay if you want somewhere a little bit more rural but still with big events and things to do today we’re heading to a traditional Inn owned by my friend iguan called Duong open in 2019 with the idea of letting its guest enjoy some of the finer parts of living in yukiguni or snow country and by finer parts I mean not having to shovel 10 ft of snow off your driveway every [Music] morning fore [Music] wow hi and just like all my other friends IG son quickly disappear appeared as soon as I arrived on zukas San kindly showed me around yugon showing me the luxurious Lou area where I guests can relax after checking in and get the best Instagram shots the bar wake enjoy local Japanese sake and whiskey the beautiful Japanese garden that connects to your rooms the relaxed on with views looking out into the countryside on zukas didn’t join me for that bit that’ be weird but most importantly he showed me to my room and you know what that means a YouTuber room [Music] tour so uh there a quite a big uh entrance area and what you first see when you come into the room is this huge bed I I don’t know which side I should sleep in maybe I just might as well sleep in Center so I can fall in between um talking about which look at this Frame it’s got some look shape like that this curved line here and apparently this shows the shape of snow you know in the morning when you wake up it’s POS of snow and this is um how it looks like in in nigata is amazing how how they actually curved it just for this talking about snow the everything here somehow is snow themed so for instance look at this you know this get snow bow it’s like a snowball and look at this sofa again um and it’s got the round thing and this actually uh looks like snow as well and so when you sit on the top you’re covered with snow so not only the sofa but even the desk has got a shape of snow I thought know how much money they actually spent on making all this tailored desk desk tailored sofa tailored bed it’s amazing so this room is basically you know kind of western style because it comes with beds and soofa but it has got also got tatami room tatami M room where you can actually lay down and there’s a watch you know there’s a TV there so you can just kind of going like that and then watch baseball and yes gold tiny that’s exactly what you can do in this room not only snow but they’ve got something else which is very very special to this room which is let me introduce you my own private bath so when you stay in a realon the chances are that you stay at the room and uh with this ordinary bath so if you were to go into hot spring you go to you know public bath a big big bath but you need to like walk for like I don’t know one or 2 minutes to get to the bath but here you don’t have to do that you’ve got your own private hot spring so you can just you know when you feel like it take it for clothes get in get out take it for clothes get in get out that’s exactly what you can do simply and luxury there’s something so calm and relaxing about being one with nature in your own private room so calm so Zan so hungry time for dinner we going to offer a min that features exclusively local ingredients to nigata and change daily based on what’s freshest in ordinary Doan normally comes with two meals dinner and breakfast um but here in newon you can actually select whether you want to have your full course inhouse or go out and enjoy your local restaurant such as isaka but today I chose what’s called Snow Country Gastronomy food course let’s wait for the first dish okay the first dish of the day is a smoked pork with fig with cheese and miso sauce Pig and pork FEG and pork never never had it before together something that I never expected to taste like this because of the sauce the cheese and miso um goes together really really well with um that sweetness of the Fig and um the so next to the pork and all together can’t explain it so the next dish um look this is I mean this could be like one of the their signature uh dish uh of this full course because according to them this actually signifies the means the Harvest this area uh of Japan the nigata and especially this wuma area uh is well known for producing the the best rice in the country and it’s very expensive as well and so rice is here and there are many uh vegetables like pumpkins and pons and some mushrooms too so they give me this ony to you know try bits and pieces together with this rice so let me just try it okay uh maybe starting from eggplant okay one go I guess one go oh love it so soft and it’s onti I don’t know should I go with a hand I’m not really sure but should try it oh wow next pumpkin truth I never had a rice or nidy in this format um this is something that and they’re they’re specialized in and because again uh this place is really famous for rice and uh so actually they put rice in the center so that you know you can enjoy uh you know uh the combination and the the pairing of these little place and this is pretty new and I quite like it next up was delicious Bo C bream in a form sauce but the main event was this so look at this look at this really close you know what’s happening right now it’s a marbling happening inside I see the marbles let me just read this out for you this is roasted nigata A5 beef with Japanese pepper sauce take that just it sounds so attractive it a okay so I just I can I try it can I try it can I try it let just try it and then according to the chef they slow cook this for like 3 and 1 half hours to roast it and I think I appreciate this I I wanted to make it slow because I wanted to appreciate the every single bite of this beef it’s just it was just this good and then I and I I’m really thankful to the chef that I still have one two three four five more slices let’s go look do it hey let’s go so good so good and just like any other realon in Japan the rice comes last which may seem a little bit weird if you’ve never eaten Japanese food before but the idea is that they want you to really enjoy the flavor of the rice on its own and appreciate just how different and good the rice is no rice no life real G dinner is real G get it because I ate it all never mind but not only is the dinner Top Notch at the r going but the breakfast as well with choices of Japanese style or western style on certain days you can even enjoy traditional Japanese cooking Experience run by local Housewives too hopefully you’re better at cooking than I am though but enough eating for a day it’s time to grab a drink with IG son and find out more about just why he wanted to create [Music] rle [Music] [Music] for [Music] [Music] and if you’re looking to go a little bit deeper into Japanese culture the area around dugon is full of little bars and snack bars that you can enjoy after dinner don’t know what snu bar is why don’t you check out the video I made with this Muppet to find out [Music] more so good morning to you guys what you think of Rong thank you so much it was just amazing place thank you I I don’t know the I felt like time has almost stopped while I was here and I I really enjoy the the almost like styish country lifestyle of and I heard that you have some special service to our viewers yes yes what is it oh the people who watching this videos I can give you the free gigs free drink in the bar in the bar wow like whiskey wine but only one only one only one only one okay so um okay so you get free drink so but you I think we we you need to prove right you guys need to prove that you watch this video so you I think you need a key word right yeah yeah sure that they to them to tell you so what OB be well snow country or snow country nah no why you always always as always need to to him or tell just one of his staff the and you get a free dram of the bar okay let’s let’s do it okay see see you in next video but today I chose what’s called Snow Country Gastronomy ah but today I chose Snow Country G Snow Country Gast but today I chose so-called Snow Country gastronomic full course you guys say right
Forget your Tokyo’s, forget your Osaka’s, even forget your Kyoto’s, Niigata is the place to go to experience the real Japan. I visited Ryugon, a luxury ryokan (traditional Japanese Inn), where you can experience one of the most relaxing, intimate and… LUXURIOUS stays including onsens and one of the most delicious dinners I’ve had in a long time. For those who didn’t know, Niigata receives some of the heaviest snowfalls in Japan inspiring Ryugon’s design, furniture, and even food!
You can book your stay on Ryugon’s English website here:

Guys, thank you for watching my channel all through this year!
I hope to show you parts of Japan that the world has never seen next year, so stay tuned.
Wishing you a great New Year!
Lastly, you may have already seen in the peasant's channel, but I've started a rental villa near the Fox Village by the famous Zao ski resort as well If you're ever in Northern Japan, be sure to check it out! as well.

'Konichiwa onegaishimaaaasu' – translation 'alright bruv' 🤣🤣🤣
Felt really boring honestly, but I like the video generally
The Japanese-to-English captions are hilarious.
Does Chris do the subtitles and cards? 😅
😂 Aw, Ryotaro, I would dine with you! haha, You had me laughing throughout the entire video, you're so adorable it's funny.
i wish Chris or you Ryo would need a french guy on the tour. ive always wanted to discover japan. now approaching 40 i wonder if its too late
Looks great but not worth that price. You can get so much more value even in terms of luxury & culture in other places.
"did I stutter?" 💀💀💀
The subtitles are giving me LIFE!
Key word “snow country” as in the Japanese novel? 😂
This place has the visual appeal and traditional architecture that I have always found to be so appealing and longing to see in Japan. I hope to one day be able to visit. Thank you for the video
I love Ryotaro's subtitles :')
Stunning accommodation.
@12:33 "But culture is more about how people lived""~ speaking facts right here.
"Jump straight into the private room onsen any time you want"?! Who does that?!…
Shower 1st! Please Ryotaro don't encourage boorish behaviour 😄
Speaking of boorish, it never gets old when you take the chance to namedrop / have a dig at the British Takeshi Kitano 👏
—————–
My heart is with those suffering the aftermath of the New Year earthquake and tsunami in Ishikawa-ken, Toyama-ken and Niigata-ken. Hang in there 🙇♂
"Alright bruv."
The editor is having a ball with this. Is it Chris who's editing? 😂😂😂
LOLOLOL who did the captions? they're so funnyyyy– also are you sharing an editor with junk food japan?
"Alright bruv" fucking killed me 😂😂
Ryo how gay are you?
" *Impressed Ryotaro noise * "
I'm sorry I just can't… 🤣
Beautiful we all can dream
Wow, I see that steak and greens dish and just wish it had another of those onigiri with it because I feel like that would just elevate it again.
im just gonna start going to random businesses in japan and only say Ryotaro and see what i can get
Lovely. I wish I could stay there. Amenities in the room? When I used to eat pork, When I used to live with my parents. We used to have apple sauce with pork,
I'm planning my first ryokan trip in a few weeks. What are the general sentiments on tattoos? I have a bunch of visible ones (arms and back). Obviously not associated with crime, just regular western tattoos. Is there a taboo for that kinda stuff? Do you have a personal top ten list? I've seen some really cool ones like Kai Matsumoto and Gora Kadan, but because of things like the tattoos and language barrier (I'm conversational but not fluent, and not shy to use whatever crappy Japanese I know to try and communicate with people), I feel like if I spend $1000+, it may be a lackluster experience for the money. Are these fears rational at all, or should I just book a really nice one somewhere?
Ryotaro mashi mashi Jirou ramen review and then 3 hours after Japanese toilet review when?? 😢
Turns out you scratched Chris's front window of his car by rubbing the boots onto it.
You owe Chris a new windshield you prick! 😅
Where is Chris?
You wrecked Chris's windscreen you Muppet!
i love the subtitles lol. also this onsen looks amazing
Did Chris to the subtitles??
Thank you for your sacrifice as the newest bar dartboard lmao
Code word Risottoro
I'd rather go to Tokyo because I don't like the cold. If I wanted cold I would just stay home. Niigata has none of the charm and all of the price of Tokyo.
You did not stay in all onsen hotels before, how dare you can say that is the most luxurious onsen hotel in Japan???
Uncle Ryotaro, thankyou
Just spent a few days Miyagi area last December.
Next time we'll go to Ryugon and say hi to your friend.
Last December we stayed at Diakon no Hana. I have say that will be hard to beat. But that's the beauty of trying new places.
Thanks Ryotaro.
And keep giving Chris trouble.
You guys have been fun to watch!
Yes I agree Ryugon stay is very nice. I love it . But food wise, they need to improve.
Came for the onsen, stayed for the subtitles 😂 this is too funny
Jap government wants rich tourists now, hence the videos of posh places?
Ryotoro is definitely the coolest uncle we all need
Really? only $400? Couldn't find a room at that price at this ryokan 😇
love this video. this is my favorite ryokan besides takafue and tsuru no yu ❤
Man this would look amazing in winter
