Spring in North Aso Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture Description of Spring North Aso. Mt. Aso is not a single mountain, but refers to a group of mountains called the Five Aso Mountains. The five peaks that make up Mt. Aso are arranged in order from the western end Eboshidake (1336.7m), Kishimadake (1326m),Nakadake (1506m),Takadake (1592.3m), and Mt. Nekodake (1433m). Mt. Aso is an active volcano, and smoke still rises from the central cone of Nakadake. Particularly famous is the Aso Caldera, which is one of the largest in the world, measuring 18 km from east to west and 25 km from north to south. It is estimated that these were formed about 30,000 years ago, and that the central depression surrounded by the outer rim was once a lake. After that, the central cone group erupted and the lake water disappeared, and flatlands called Aso Valley on the north side and Nango Valley on the south side appeared. The date is early April. Previously, I introduced Mt. Aso in autumn and Mt. Aso in winter. Today, we will be traveling around the northern half of Mt. Aso to introduce you to "Spring North Aso". I would like to take a look while moving from the west end to the east. I visited 6 places, so I think you can enjoy a variety of "North Aso". First, take a look at the view from the Kurumagaeri Observation Deck at the west end. Mt. Eboshi Komezuka / Mt. Kishima Move to next. Kabutoiwa Observatory Kabutoiwa (Helmet Rock) Kuju Mountain Range / Daikanbo Mt. Neko / Mt. Taka / Mt. Naka Mt. Kishima / Mt. Eboshi Move to next. Aso Skyline Observatory Aso Valley (Aso City) / Mt. Aso Uchinomaki hot spring town Daikanbo Move to next. The Ogidani Observation Deck was not open to the public, so please view it from the plaza next door. Even though it’s spring, there’s a lot of dead grass. Move to next. This is a place where you can see the beautiful countryside of Aso Valley. Shiroyama Observatory The rape blossoms were blooming like spring. Move to next. The whole area is a burnt field. Check out this rare sight. It is pitch black because it was burned.
