Forget Niseko – try these cheap ski trips close to Tokyo #travel #japan #ski

No to Niseko – instead try these more affordable resorts near Tokyo.
.
Here are my top tips for an affordable ski holiday in Japan:
.
🏔️ Select Budget Friendly Resorts:
🎿 Gala Yuzawa – known for its convenience, Gala is easily accessible from Tokyo on the Joetsu Shinkansen. The resort offers equipment rental and lift passes as part of a package deal, making it a cost effective choice for a day trip or weekend getaway.
🎿Kagura – nearby to Gala, Kagura is a higher resort with a longer season. I’ve skied here just before Easter. Look out for combo tickets that include Naeba & Kagura together, providing more value for money.
🎿Ishiuchi Maruyama – connected to Gala, Ishiuchi has varied terrain suitable for all ski levels and is a great option for budget conscious skiers. The resort is quite low, so it doesn’t always have the longest season.
🎿Nozawa Onsen – cute ski town, and once you’re here, you won’t need a car – everything is walkable. Famous for the onsens, a great way to wind down after a day on the slopes.
🎿Myoko Kogen – a bit further away, but great for skiers on a budget.
.
⏱️Off Peak Timings: plan your ski trip during non-peak times, such as week days. Resorts often offer discounts on week day lift passes and you’ll have shorter lines and quieter slopes. Also make sure you know when Chinese New Year is, because resorts can get super busy with skiers from China.
.
🏨Accommodation tips: look for budget accommodation in nearby towns, rather than the resort itself. Places like Echigo Yuzawa or Myoko offer more affordable lodgings while remaining close to the slopes.
.
🚠Look Out For Package Deals: like accommodation and lift passes for additional savings. Many resorts and travel agents will have good bundles.
.
🚆Transprt Hacks: make use of public transport to save on rental car costs. The Shinkansen and local trains can get you to resorts like Gala and Nozawa Onsen. Investigate shuttle services from local train stations to the resorts, some offer free or low cost transport for skiers.
.
❤️Save for your next trip to Japan or share with someone you’d like to go skiing with..
