Limone sul Garda, Lake Garda – Italy Sunset Walk (4K UHD)

Ciao everyone and welcome back! 👋 Today’s let’s discover the beautiful Limone sul Garda, located in Lombardy, Italy! We are on the western shore of Lake Garda, also known as “Gardesana Occidentale” or “Riviera dei Limoni”. This side of the lake generally offers a quieter and more relaxed scene compared to the eastern riviera.

This is the initial downward path upon arrival in Limone, which leads straight to the hearth of the historical town. The walk offers a stunning first look at the lake and its magnificent panorama. Along the lake’s shore, lie quaint little beaches, perfect to unwind beneath shady trees.

Despite its name suggesting lemons, Limone actually derives from the Latin word “limen” meaning border. Records show it has been called Limone since the 10th century, but its official name “Limone sul Garda” was acquired in 1904. From here, the mountains beyond feel almost within touching distance.

Ancient ruins and artifacts found in and around the town hint Limone was inhabited as early as the Bronze Age. The town’s story is one of a continuous settlement, having attracted inhabitants from Celts and Romans all the way to empires.

However, it was during rule under the Venetian Republic where Limone saw its greatest economic, social, and cultural development. Back then, its main income sources were fishing, olives, and citrus fruits grown year-round in specialized greenhouses called ‘limonaias’. Under control of the Hapsburg Empire, the town also began producing paper, magnesium, quicklime, and silkworms.

For centuries, Limone remained a small and isolated village as it could only be reached by lake or an undeveloped mountain road. When the Western Gardesana Road opened in 1931, winding along Lake Garda’s west side, Limone became reachable for the first time.

Today, Limone has become a top destination on Lake Garda, drawing tourists worldwide. Here we are in Porto Nuovo (new harbor), a refined area lined with bobbing fishing boats on one side and restaurants on the other. This spot is lovely, but wait until you see the Old Harbor at the tour’s finale.

These gorgeous reclining benches add a bit of glamor to the waterfront. Here you can spend hours lulled by the gentle lapping of the lake. One of the town’s most visited spots is the giant “I love limone more than ever” sculpture. People love taking pictures next to it, with the lake behind them.

Care for a front row seat to Lake Garda? You got it! The lakefront is dotted with lush palm trees and colorful flowerbeds. In the coming days, I’ll be sharing more tours of Lake Garda’s western shore, like Salò and Gardone Riviera. These flags proudly embody the city’s open arms to guests worldwide.

Limone sul Garda welcomes around 1.2 million tourists every year. Foreign tourists are predominantly from Germany, Denmark, Scandinavia, and Austria. The narrow streets are full of shops selling all sorts of things: souvenirs, local products, and clothing. For centuries, lemons have been a primary commodity of this humble town.

Everywhere you turn, you’ll find lemon groves, limonaias, and shops stocked with all things lemon. No one leaves Limone without tasting the Limoncello, a creamy lemon meant to be savored slowly for its delightful flavor. This is Piazza Garibaldi, a refined square with a charming flower-adorned fountain.

The square boasts magnificent lake views, bathed in the warm light of streetlamps. Everything is designed to completely relax and unwind. Here we are at the Old Harbor, Limone’s most charming spot. An idyllic place that conveys peace and serenity. Many consider this harbor as the most picturesque on the entire Lake Garda.

It’s such a romantic setting for an evening meal with your loved one. What a perfect spot to enjoy the moonlight. I hope this lovely town has charmed you as much as it has me. This tour concludes, but our west Garda trip continues. The town of Salò is next. Click on the video. Andiamo!

Limone sul Garda on Lake Garda, Italy, is a spellbinding town with a surprise around every corner. Let me take you on a dreamy sunset walking tour along the waterfront and through the historic passages of Limone so that you can discover them for yourself.

For centuries Limone, a humble fishing village along the western riviera of Lake Garda, was rarely visited by outsiders. Only reachable by boat or an undeveloped mountain road until just under a century ago, the small mountainside enclave near Riva has been able to hold onto its olde-world charm.

Its passages are narrow and cobbled, its facades are decorated with delicately detailed balconies and wrapped in vines, and its old harbor might just be the cutest place you will see in Italy.

Join me on this walking tour as we are lured into the rustic town as it lights up during the golden hour of sunset to see all this and more.
