女ひとりで行く中山道歩き。12日目|雨の中歩く馬籠峠。三留野宿、妻籠宿、馬籠宿、落合宿、中津川宿
Good morning. This is day 12 of Nakasendo walking. I ate breakfast from 7am. I asked the people at the hotel if they could give me a ride, and they kindly agreed. Today’s schedule looks like this. They let me off at the railroad crossing where I left the Nakasendo yesterday.
They have chairs where you can take a break. Go under the railroad tracks in the underground tunnel. It started to rain. I am grateful that there are many chairs where I can take a break.
This area was said to be “Raten’s Difficult Place” because the mountain cliffs approach and you have to walk along the banks of the Kiso River. I have arrived at the 41st post station, Midono-juku! Midono-juku had 1 honjin, 1 waki honjin, 32 inns, a population of 594, and an inn length of 0.25 km.
Next is Tsumago-juku, 3.5km away. There were several foreign tourists from this area. I’m looking forward to Tsumago-juku. I’m halfway there. A row house built in the late Edo period. It is a tangible cultural property of Nagiso Town. I have arrived at the 42nd post station, Tsumago-juku!
Tsumago-juku had one honjin, one waki-honjin, 31 inns, a population of 418, and an inn length of 0.27 km. In the Showa era, it was reconsidered that the townscape of the Edo period remained. It is said to be one of the first in Japan to preserve the townscape. I will have lunch here.
Peach soda with lots of pulp. The galette was twice the size I had imagined. There were hardly any people around after we finished eating, probably because it was a group tour. I changed into a raincoat in the cafe’s bathroom. Next is Magome-juku, 7.9km away.
A road with an atmosphere that makes it hard to believe that you are about to cross a mountain pass✨ I will buy souvenirs here. “Medaki” which won the Excellence Award in the rich and aromatic category at the National Doburoku Research Conference.
It’s less than half way to Kyoto and it’s heavy, but I bought it. Quite impressive…! Medaki Falls was far away. The road is messy because of the rain. My shoes are already wet so I walk without worrying about it. I can walk happily today without any muscle pain.
I took a short break here. I crossed the mountain pass and entered Gifu Prefecture! All that’s left to do is go down. The road now has a pattern like cherry blossom petals. I took a restroom break since I could take shelter from the rain. Don’t cross the bridge, go to the right.
I have arrived at the 43rd post station, Magome-juku! I want to go to a cafe and take a break, but I’m drenched and uncomfortable, so I hurry. I want to take a bath quickly…! I’ll only stop at the post office.
Magome-juku had one honjin, one waki-honjin, 18 inns, a population of 717, and an inn length of 0.38 km. I would like to come on a sunny day and take my time to see it. Next is Ochiai-juku, 4.7km away.
There were a lot of people before, but now I’m suddenly alone and I feel a little lonely. Another toilet break here. I go to the toilet a lot because it’s cold. Kisoji is finally over… When I thought about it, I found myself on a road with an amazing atmosphere..!
I was scared that I was going to slip but I got excited. Passing Ioji Temple Come to think of it, even after passing the post station, the road continues to be patterned with petals. Nakasendo is made into flower petals to make it easier to understand..?
I have arrived at the 44th post station, Ochiai-shuku! Ochiai-juku had one honjin, one waki-honjin, 14 inns, a population of 370, and a length of 0.39 km. A pine tree overhanging the road. The tree is said to be 450 years old. It’s easy to understand left turns♪
I will take a break in a park where I can take shelter from the rain. Next is Nakatsugawa-juku, 3.9km away. Gradually, I started to fall in love with this path of petals. Very steep slope. It looked like it was going to slip in the rain. I arrived at the 45th post station, Nakatsugawa-juku!
Today I will stay at an inn along Nakasendo that was opened in October 2022. The bottom of my backpack was wet so I used the heating to dry it. Now that I’m feeling lighter, I’m walking around Nakatsugawa-juku ☆ A shop famous for Kurikinton, founded in the Genroku era.
I eat dinner at a restaurant where I can use coupons. Thank you for watching till the end!
