日本の歴史を感じる奈良旅【2023秋の京都奈良大阪旅4】

Thank you for watching. Please watch to the end. November 2023, Osaka. Continuing from the previous video, we come to Shin-Imamiya. There are many cheap hotels in this area. Let’s move on from Osaka. Let’s take a rapid train on JR Yamatoji Line. This time we are headed for Nara.

This place, like Kyoto, is also famous as an ancient capital. We stopped on the way before heading to Nara. Here is Japan’s first World Heritage Site, Horyuji Temple. But it is far from the station, a 20-minute walk. After walking for a while, an approach lined with pine trees appears.

This is Horyuji Temple, famous for having been built by Prince Shotoku. And the five-story pagoda on the left is said to be the oldest wooden structure in the world. I paid the admission fee of 1,500 yen and went inside. This is what it looks like up close.

I have seen it many times in textbooks, but this is the first time I have seen the real thing. It has a calm atmosphere and the atmosphere of a famous temple. In the adjacent Kondo hall, a statue of Buddha is enshrined. It was nice to see the actual five-story pagoda.

It seems that you can see other places with the ticket I bought. First we visited the National Treasure, the statue of Kudara Kannon (photography prohibited). By the way, it is a beautiful day. There are few foreign tourists here and many Japanese group tourists. This is the To-in Dream Hall.

Built in memory of Prince Shotoku, this building has as much history as the five-story pagoda. Let’s move again by train. We are now at Nara station. From here, we will move further by bus. We have come to an area with a lot of greenery. We came to Todaiji Temple.

This temple is a staple of school excursions, as is Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto. And speaking of Nara, there are deer! There are really a lot of them. We paid 600 yen for admission and went inside. The Great Buddha is housed in that building. Let’s go to worship immediately.

This is the Great Buddha of Nara. This is not the biggest Buddha in Japan, but it is very powerful. Let’s walk around the Big Buddha. There was a reconstructed model of the Todaiji temple of yesteryear. But no matter how many times I see it, it is still amazing.

It’s been more than a decade since I’ve been here, but I enjoyed it. Todaiji temple is also changing color like Kuramadera temple. Many students on school excursion today reminded me of the old days. Let’s continue sightseeing in Nara. Next we visit Kasuga Taisha Shrine next to Todaiji Temple.

This is my first visit to Kasuga-taisha Shrine. We walk through moss-covered lanterns. A vermilion gate appears. Let’s go inside. The admission fee was 600 yen. The vermilion color of this chumon is exceptionally beautiful. Walking along the corridor. Walking through the lanterns. We come to the main shrine and worship.

There seems to be some special exhibition. The lanterns shining in the dark room were fantastic. A large cedar tree tells of its long history. I mean, there are deer everywhere. I have seen countless deer since I came to Nara. So here we are at the deer park.

It is amazing to see the symbiosis between wild deer and humans. This is the end of sightseeing in Nara. We will take a bus to move on. Very few tourists, but where are they going? Here we are at the Heijo Palace ruins. This is the capital of Japan 1300 years ago.

And it is famous for the railroad crisscrossing through it. Suddenly I look back and see a beautiful sunset! Crossing the railroad tracks. Miscanthus is growing thickly, as if in the height of autumn. The train speeds through the historic site. Look for viewpoints as it is very atmospheric.

Let’s take a look at the top of this building’s foundation ruins. From here you can see the setting sun and the Suzaku Gate. A train runs through it. In case you are wondering, there are no buildings of note in the Heijo Palace site. The atmosphere at dusk, however, is wonderful.

To be honest, I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much. I am glad I came all the way here.
