【熊本／観光名所】蓮華院誕生寺／真言律宗の九州別格本山 – Renge-in Tanjoji Temple in KUMAMOTO, JAPAN

蓮華院誕生寺は、熊本県玉名市にある真言律宗の寺院。
真言律宗の九州別格本山であり、奈良の西大寺を総本山とします。
また、ここから北に4kmの小岱山中腹に奥之院があります。
蓮華院誕生寺は、檀家がいない信者や一般の方のための祈祷寺。
「肥後国誌」によれば、平重盛がこの地に「浄光寺蓮華院」を建立したのが起源。
その後、戦国時代の天正10年（1582年）に戦禍に巻き込まれ焼失してしまいます。
浄土宗開祖法然の師であり、この地で生まれた皇円上人から霊告を受けた初代住職の川原是信が、昭和5年（1930年）に、蓮華院誕生寺として再興し現在に至っています。

Rengein Tanjoji is a temple of the Shingon Ritsu sect located in Tamana City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
It is the special head temple of the Shingon Ritsu sect in Kyushu, and its head temple is Saidaiji Temple in Nara.
Additionally, there is Okuno-in Temple on the slope of Mt. Shodai, 4 km north of here.
Rengein Tanjoji is a prayer temple for believers who do not have family members or for the general public.
According to “Higo Kokushi” the origin of this temple is when Taira no Shigemori built “Jokoji Renge-in” in this site.
Later, in 1582 during the Warring States Period, the temple was destroyed by fire due to the ravages of war.
The temple was rebuilt in 1930 as Renge-in Birthplace Temple by the first chief priest, Korenobu Kawahara, who received a spiritual message from the founder of the Jodo sect, Honen, who was born in this area.
