Last summer, “Camplifire Isa,” a 5-day/4-night English camp for kids aged 8 to 12, was held at Jisso Seishonen Ryokomura in Isa City, Kagoshima Prefecture. The camp, which took place from August 17th to 21st, was organized by Humony, Inc. in an effort to serve as an outbound beacon of information and create a base for inbound tourism. Camplifire’s aim is to make Isa a mecca for English camps and a place for exchange between children from and outside of Japan.
Using both English and Japanese, Camp Captain Masakazu Hasebe (Nature Interpreter) transcended the limits of public education and led the campers to foster a pure resilience and find themselves as true global citizenship. Along with a native English speaker serving as the Co-Captain, university student-volunteers joined the campers in their Japanese and English speaking efforts, leading to a successful summer camp with the kids cheering “I want to come back next year!” before leaving for home.
And we will be back again this summer!
See you there!
P.S.: On January 13-14, 2024, to further realize Camplifire’s aim and create more nationwide opportunities for inbound tourism, we held a “leadership development camp” at the same Jisso Seishonen Ryokomura. Masakazu Hasebe taught university students, former elementary school teachers, and people working on regional revitalization the introduction to “Masa’s Method.”
More on that at a later date.
