リニア中央新幹線は時速500km、新幹線の約2倍の速さで山梨と東京を約20分、東京と大阪もわずか1時間ほどで結ぶ世界最速の新幹線です。平成22年4月にJR東海は、リニア中央新幹線を平成39年（2027年）に、東京都－名古屋市間で営業運転を開始する方針を発表し、山梨県にあるリニア実験線において実用化レベルでの様々な試験を行っています。リニア中央新幹線の開通により山梨県に新幹線の新駅が開設されれば、大都市との多彩な交流を生みだし、新たな観光客の誘致、企業の山梨進出、さらには都市から山梨への定住人口の増大が期待されています。
