Life in RURAL Hainan 🇨🇳 I S2, EP69

Good afternoon everyone Welcome back to the channel Welcome to the beautiful tropical island Of hainan Right now, I am very close to the sea I am just wandering in the small village Because there is a spectacular Sea salt farm near here It’s one of the biggest sea salt farm in China

I decided to walk around in this village And see how life looks like This is a very quiet village There are not so many tourists many people who live by the sea Live on fishing Perhaps they’ve already finished fishing And some of them are repairing the net Do you come alone?

Yes. I hope I can go fishing with you I am afraid you may get seasick Really? yes I won’t, I never had carsick The wave is big A Car is balanced But a boat isn’t the boat rocks hard I see Only frequent sailors Won’t have seasick

For locals, the kids, who go the first time Will they have seasick? yes Really? It depends whether they’re born for this Some won’t Just like my kid He wasn’t seasick On his first fishing trip I see, it depends on the individuals How many times do you go fishing weekly? 10 or 8 days

Every 8 or 10 days We took the net and repair it So every 8 or 10 days you’ll repair the net Now some business men buy big fishing vessel for fishing So that they can sail far Yes, further How far will you go? I didn’t go far Less than 2 hours

A bit more than one hour How far can you go 4 Nautical mile,or 5 That equals 6 or 7 km? It’s close, about 2 hours Will you get big fish? It all depends on the luck Like win a lottery It’s random If big one comes, we get it

We get what comes in What if It’s a good day? If you are lucky On average, for what we got if sold We earn 4-5k yuan every 8 or 10 days 4, 5 thousands kilo? No, it’s 4, 5k yuan thousand. 4, 5 thousands Oh, it’s not too bad

Yes, more or less. So for each trip Yes. It’s about 4-500 yuan per day I see, it’s not too bad Yeah, we calculate by 8 or 10 days At least 5 or 6k yuan every month I see, 5k, 6k per month. So for fishing We go fishing maximum 20 days a month

What about the other days Go out for work? No, we repair the net And wait for sailing I see, repairing It’s just 2 month fishing off season in those months we repair the net And then the fishing season begins Off fishing season starts on May 15th May 15th And till which month

Till August 15th August 15th, how about the 3 month? Will you rest? We do some small jobs We go fishing for half a year And rest for half a year Our work is seasonal We earn and save When it’s fishing off season We just spend our money It’s tricky

We have expense every month Now it’s time to earn and save I see, you save only during fishing season Yes. We’ll need to save For the fishing off season Yes, we can only spend, or go out This must be the market But now it’s not the time So there is almost no one

There are just different nets Scattered around And also the big basket They use to… They use for fishing This is for small shrimps And it smells very salty Smell like sea And sea food And that’s their fishing boat And from afar It seems there is nothing But nets

There are also some dried fish They also sell all kinds of dried fish Those are quite big And they also have smaller ones And even here That’s fish head Manager What do you do with small fish heads To feed chickens and ducks. I see Wow, that’s very nutritious

Those are for chickens and ducks there are many man-made shallow pools When the tide goes up The sea water comes in And flood all those pools If you see it from the map You will see that there are e.g. primary pool Middle pools And crystallization pool And in those pools

There are different brines And this means the saturation of salt Is different And finally in the crystallization pool The salt is so saturated That it starts to crystalize So this isn’t the largest sea salt farm In china The largest is in Tianjin Hebei provinces Bohai Bay

But this is the largest in Hainan The railway track There used to be trains To transport the salt But not it’s only trucks It’s a big salt ‘mountain’ It’s so salty that No plant is growing on this side On this side there is still cactus, grass Here, nothing

This looks like a huge snow ‘mountain’ It’s so white The salt crystal Salty This is the channel through which The brine flows through In the crystallization pool So the brine is more saturated In this area Even the ground is shining With salt… manager excuse me I’d love to have a

Pineapple bread And one of this I’ll get you one with a big yolk It’s with egg yolk! So it’s 7 yuan in total How long when you stay here? I’ll be leaving today I am leaving for Linghshui Today I won’t do a long distance My destination is Linghsui

Which is about 160 km away And on my way I will pass by the famous Tropical resort Of Sanya Which is probably The most popular destination in Hainan That’s a lot of beans So this is Sanya city But there is one problem So motorbike is forbidden

In most part of the city There is one road, I think Where motorbike is allowed But I am not so sure I don’t trust the map and the navigation Sometimes it’s not always right There is a police station near here So maybe its better to check with the officer

The policeman told me that the policy has changed Before motorbikes were not allowed But now… But now according to the new regulation The motorbike can take the Hainan ring road highway But the sign hasn’t been taken off yet I won’t stay here in Sanya tonight I will go further

But Sanya is The most popular destination in Hainan It’s also the most expensive place in Hainan So this beach is about 14 or 15 km long Of white sandy beach Which is quite beautiful There are also a lot of good restaurants Luxurious hotels Big theme parks

So there is a lot to do among all cities in Hainan Sanya has the best climate It has the most sunny day so every winter travelers swarm into Sanya the heavy traffic slowed me down When I got out of the city The horizon already turned rosy it feels romantic

To follow the evening glow Excuse me, I’ve booked one room online

I am back in Hainan after these mesmerising new year celebrations in Guangdong Province. In this video I am visiting another rural area of Hainan, showing the daily life of the rural Hainan fishermen, and eventually heading to the Yinggehai Sea Salt Farm, which is the biggest sea salt farm in Hainan.

  5. Another great ride. It is always a revelation to see that a “village” in China is the size and population of a city in the USA. Thanks Yan!

  6. The drone shots of the salt pools would make a nice framed photo. Any plans of publishing a photo book of your favorite images? 😊

  7. Ms Yan once again you've impressed us with the magnificent views you've captured for our viewing pleasure. Stay safe on your travels the big trucks make your moped scooter look like a toy and some drivers are careless, use the upmost precautions miss 👍❤️

  12. Yan, you may consider a new series with a particular theme. China is famous for a multimillemia civilization, and there are certain places reflecting it, some less known and which might be of interest. In order to grow your channel you need to be more inventive. Even if going to a well known objective, there are always additional info, details, certain ways of presenting and so on, which can be more appealing to a larger audience. To be honest, someone watching exclusively your channel may not get the correct impression about how advanced China has become in certain areas. You may appear a little biased towards rural life, or better say not the most modern rural life.

  13. 160km on a Suzy 100 ? Hope the vibrations are good … thank you for your interesting videos – as a local talking their language they feel very authentic ("I'll give you a big yolk" – then hands you the first one she sees …)
