Staying in Japan’s $369 Luxurious Hotel like Spirited Away | Kanaguya
Now loading the video…. January 29th, 2024 Hello again from Tokyo Station, Japan Today, we are visiting a hot spring resort in Nagano, Shibu Onsen, and stay at a Ryokan(Japanese traditional hotel) there We firstly move on Shinkansen(high-speed rail) from Tokyo to Nagano I used Gran Class, which is first class of Shinkansen
The Shinkansen fare in Gran Class was 106USD from Tokyo to Nagano Enjoy quality ride for 1 hour and 30 mins to Nagano Nagano is filled with mountains and scenic landscapes I especially love traveling in Nagano After arriving at Nagano, I transfered for a local line, Nagaden, and took an express train called Yukemuri
The train is filled with tourists and most of them are not speaking Japanese We travel more 50 mins from Nagano to Yudanaka terminal in Yamanouchi Town The train has an observatory which is unique and interesting Arrived at Yudanaka Station (3:14PM) There are multiple hot spring resorts around Yudanaka Station
To Shibu Onsen, we take a local bus It takes only about 10 mins Seems hot spring resorts are located in a beautiful area We are arrived! Welcome to Shibu Onsen resort, with a history as long as 1,300 years The area has a good old atmosphere
Shibu Onsen has 9 free public baths in the town and the habit of visiting the baths is called “Kyuto Meguri” On the way to the hotel, I found one of them But seems the door is locked Looks like we need to find a key somewhere Anyway, here is today’s Ryokan hotel “Kanaguya”
It is said that the Guibli film, Spirited Away got an inspiration from this hotel The hotel was established in 1758 It has a history over 250 years For this stay, I chose a “Traditional Room” and paid “52,800JPY/369.6USD” After checking in, a Ryokan lady guides you to your room
You are first served a welcome tea and snack My first impression to this room is “It looks like a Japanese house” It has a large entrance before the main room It consists of 3 individual rooms, 1 bathroom and indoor terrace It’s a traditonal Japanese suite room!
The interior design has almost remained unchanged from the time, as it says “traditional” The phone looks so old and expensive To me, it feels like visiting a grandparent house This is a dressing table It’s like the one in a house Closet Restroom It feels old but clean and it’s Washlet(bidet toilet) Fridge Heater
TV Checking the window views The hotel is surrounded by buildings but there is a good vibe Green tea Onsen Manju A steamed bun with red bean paste inside I change into a Ryokan robe Cool They give us a heat pack(as it’s cold outside)
And a compact pouch with a face towel and toothbrush in it There is room service available A key of the outside public baths was on the table I’ll walk the town and try some of them later But first thing first, let me try a bath in the hotel
The hotel even has 8 baths and some of them are private Oh, there are elavators Walking the hotel is like time traveling to the old time Here is “Rock Bath” which is one of the private baths It’s like a bath in a cave
The hot spring of Shibu Onsen is known as being “hot” It’s recharging my body It’s no problem to take this bath in winter but…. I will be scared of seeing warms in summer… What surprised me the most is that the shower uses hot spring water
For shower, I need clean water in my onion I joined a free guided hotel tour You walk the hotel for around 40 mins You need a map when walking the hotel as it’s complicated like a maze From the tour, I got to know that the rooms are designed like actual Japanese houses
You notice rooms have covered entrances This creates a vibe where you feel like walking in a Japanese traditional neighborhood though we are in a hotel Moreover, you can see Mt. Fuji from the hallway! This gives a vibe we walk on a street with a moon above the Mt. Fuji
For this hallway, you are made feel like you walk in a night market Space enjoyments here and there The tour made me notice I was wearing the robe the wrong way Time for dinner! What a feast I love black beer The menu The dinner covers so many kinds of local cuisines
You will never get bored in this dinner But the portion feels too much for one person My stomach will die haha They even added a Soba noodles Rice Miso soup Dessert and tea Oops, I can’t eat anymore That was a very very satisfying dinner Let’s go outside and walk
You can freely rent sandals The town makes us feel like we are in a Ghibli film Many walk and go take a bath outside the hotel a bath outside the hotel I gave up after visiting 3 public baths out of 9 Hey mom, I’m back home~ A futon was made during dinner
You sleep on the floor (Ryokan style) I noticed that the water of the sink is also from hot spring! I actually want clean water though WiFi was weak through the stay 11:30PM, time to sleep It’s a little spooky to sleep in this room alone See you tomorrow 5:45AM I took a morning bath
This private bath makes you feel like you are rowing a canoe toward Mt. Fuji Another space enjoyment of the hotel The breakfast was also a lot Nice hotel Most Japanese people love rice with a raw egg on It’s called “Tamagokake Gohan” I did enjoy many different local cuisines
The meals were all delicious during this stay Mt. Fuji in daylight It’s around time to check out It was an awesome stay It felt like a time travel to the time Thank you Kanaguya for wonderful times The town is in an awesome atmosphere and I like it so much
From now, I’ll take a bus and go to a monkey paradise where wild monkeys bathe in a hot spring The bus carries many skiers and snowboarders as there are some ski resorts around In about 15 mins, we arrive at Snow Monkey Park bus stop
We walk more 15 mins to the entrance of the park Usually, the area gets much snow in this season but this year has less You are advised to wear snow boots in heavy snow but we may not need them today as there are not many snow oops Let’s not be that confident
Walkers have learned to walk on the edge of the path We walk more 20 mins to the place where monkeys bathe We are getting closer to the monkey hot spring Here we are in Jigokudani valley
The valley has been widely loved by people all over the world as a place where you can observe the interesting ecology of Japanese macaques up close here here A lot of people gather around one place! I finally reached the hot spring But seems no monkey bathe in the hot spring
As the weather is hotter than usual, monkeys are hesitant to take a bath what a cute little baby monkey The baby looks timid Oh, one monkey took a step forward! SPLENDID Another monkey joins him This Snow Monkey Park is the world’s only place where wild monkeys bathe in a hot spring
They bathe like we humans do I also want to join them haha On the way back, I took the very front seat of the Yukemuri train How scenic this train and the views are Nagano is a wonderful prefecture to explore so you should come visit here Thank you for watching the video today

I’ve never been where you go, but thanks to your videos, I’ve already been there with you. It's nice to know, living 6,500 nautical miles to the west, that there is an opportunity to learn more about the world around.
Thank you, thank you for these wonderful moments. 😊🍜
This is so cool. They take the history of the building seriously, and it has SO MUCH visual interest and appeal. It feels authentic and not too dressed up.
What a great hotel! Beautiful atmosphere amazing ,to bad you couldn't stay longer. The food looked amazing great feast!
Please be careful when walking on ice.😊
What a beautiful place and I loved your hotel too. We have hot springs where I live too but no monkeys. I have seen your macaques in pictures and on documentaries at those hot springs and they are quite famous and adorable. Really enjoyed watching!

I love this style of Japanese buildings. This video was very enjoyable!
Dziękujemy.
Its so cute the room and everything would love to try a Ryokan hotel next time I get a chance to travel to Japan
So splendid and wonderful. Great video 😊
I find your videos so interesting. I do not think I could get my old body up off the floor after sleeping there. But then again, I do not have access to all those wonderful hot spring baths. I would be so pruney if I lived near there because I'd be in the hot springs all the time. Do they smell like sulfur? The few hot springs I have been to in the USA (California ones) smelled like rotten eggs. Even your urine will smell like that for a few days afterwards. The snow monkeys were incredible. I love how everyone (tourists and locals alike) all stay on the marked paths and do not try to interact or interfere with the monkeys. Here in the US, we have too many stupid entitled people who would try to put them in their bags and taken them home with them.
Always look forward to your videos. It feels like we are travelling with you 💜
Thanks for your videos. But why you shot at 24fps?
More FPS is better.
I enjoyed this video very much. Thank you.
please do not enter these public and private pools. They're full of bad bacteria.
And don't use these public flip flops barefoot. You'll definitely get athlete's foot.
