日本100名城 佐倉城 満開の河津桜 千葉県 Sakura Castle 2024
Today we will head to Sakura Castle in Chiba Prefecture. Get off at Keisei Sakura Station. It is about a 20 minute walk from the station to Sakura Castle. Go south from the station and turn right in front of the museum. First, we will visit Magata Shrine.
Next, we will stop by a samurai residence. A group of samurai residences remain in Sakura, retaining the vestiges of a castle town. Hiyodori-zaka is located near the samurai residence. This slope seems to be called “Samurai no Komichi.” I arrived at Otemonzeki.
There is a guidebook for the Sakura Castle Ruins Park Center, so I decided to stop by. You can also get stamps from Japan’s 100 Famous Castles here. There is also a model of Sakura Castle. The Kawazu cherry blossoms in the castle ruins park were in full bloom.
Everyone is enjoying Kawazu cherry blossoms in their own way. Spring is almost here. There are remains of a dry moat next to Freedom Plaza. Sakura Castle was built by Toshikatsu Doi. Since then, powerful Fudai daimyo have continued to be the castle lords.
The castle is built on a natural stronghold at the tip of a plateau. Beyond this point is the third gate. It seems that it was a turret gate. It seems that the former Sengen Shrine was enshrined outside the castle. The land continues to be flat.
Return to the original path and head towards the main enclosure. This tea room seems to have been moved from Nogi Shrine in Tokyo to the Showa era. You can see the bronze statue. A statue of Harris, the first American consul general to Japan.
On the right is Masayoshi Hotta, the lord of the Sakura domain and a senior officer of the Edo shogunate. This area is where the second gate was. Behind it was the Ninomaru Palace. We have arrived at Honmaru. Go up to the earthworks and take a walk. It is quite tall.
The outside of the earthworks is a dry moat, and there are further differences in height. This is the ruins of a bronze turret. It seems that it was relocated from Edo Castle. Head to the ruins of the castle tower. There was also a mokkoku at the site of the main enclosure.
Sakura Castle is famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot as it is home to a variety of cherry blossom trees. A few early blooming cherry blossoms were in bloom. There were also remains of the corner turret. After leaving Honmaru, I will go to Shimizu Demaru below.
I went down a little and arrived at Shimizu Demaru. It is surrounded by earthworks and has a practical structure. The outside is protected by a water moat. The camellias were also blooming. Earthworks continued on the east side of Shimizu Demaru. I came to the Demaru ruins on the west side.
It is also protected by earthworks. This gate is said to have been located within Sakura Castle. Finally, we will go to see the restored Umadashi Karahori. Thank you for your viewing.
