【インド旅行】知らなかったではヤバい!?インド来る前に知っておきたかった11のこと〜病気、治安、食べ物など〜
Namaste!! Hello everyone!! I’m YURI,Japanese youtuber in India I would like to share the useful informations about India with you through this video as usual. Please watch to the end of this video!! Recently, I am often asked about travel to India by Japanese people.
That’s why I would like to share 11 Things Japanese traveller should know before Coming to India – ex.Diseases, Security, Indian Food, etc. There are more than 100 things I wish I could tell you, but I chose 11things.
This video and informations are for Japanese traveller who will travel in India for the first time. That’s why today’s video is so basic information. I hope this video will be useful for Japanese travellers!! Please watch to the end of this video!! (1) India is not hot all year round
Many Japanese people tend to think of India as a hot country all year round. However, the climate in India differs depending on the region and the time of year you visit. India is a very large country, nine times the size of Japan.
For example, the climate differs greatly between the northern and southern parts of the country. Please be especially careful if you are traveling to the northern part of the country, near the capital city of Delhi. Delhi, a famous tourist destination, is located in the northern part of the country.
The hottest months are April and May, when the temperature is nearly 50 degrees Celsius every day. On the other hand, during the coldest part of winter, from late November to February, it gets so cold that you need a coat and scarf.
As you can see, there is a wide range of temperatures throughout the year. Because of the short winter, it is very cold indoors, basically just blankets and a heater I always use an electric hot water bottle to keep myself warm.
If you visit the northern part of India during the winter season, please make sure you are well-protected against the cold! In the Indian summer, it is hot outside. However, the temperature difference between outside and inside is quite drastic.
Women in particular are advised to always have a cardigan or other adjustable garment on hand! Before you go to trip in India, I recommend that you check the weather conditions of the place you are going to and prepare the suitable clothing! 2)Choose the best clothes for a safe trip!
I get questions about clothing insanely often, especially from women is certainly important for a safe trip in India. It’s very important for you to wear suitable clothes for a safe trip in India. For example, in urban areas, many people dress as they would in Japan, such as sleeveless and shorts.
However, if you go to a slightly rural area, it is very rare to be a foreigner, and depending on what you wear, it may be little dangerous. For women, it is recommended to “avoid exposing skin as much as possible”. For example Cover your legs (pants and long skirts are recommended).
Avoid wearing clothes that show the chest. Avoid clothes that show the lines of the body such as the buttocks, etc. I live in a safe area in central Tokyo, so I basically dress the same as I would in Japan.
However, when I go to tourist attractions, I am careful about what I wear depending on where I am going. India fashion is recommended because it meets all the precautions I mentioned, and above all, it looks great in photos!
There are many local markets in India where you can find reasonably priced clothing, so please enjoy shopping while sightseeing! 3)Take preventive measures for your safety. Many Japanese people still tend to have the image of India as a dangerous country with unstable security.
According to data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the entire country of India is rated as “Level 1 in terms of security risk. India and Japan have very different cultures and customs! In foreign countries, including India, it is important for Japanese travelers to always enjoy themselves with caution.
Petty crimes such as misplacement, purse-snatching, and fraud are said to be more likely to occur at tourist attractions where many tourists gather, at train stations and airports used for transportation, and in cabs.
Some scams are also committed by groups of people working together, so do not immediately trust anyone who calls out to you in a friendly manner, and be sure to do your research before you visit. Be especially careful when walking around with smartphone and taking pictures by yourself.
If you are distracted by using a selfie stick to take pictures, you may be taken straight off Don’t put your cell phone or wallet in your pocket, as it is dangerous.
I was walking on my phone once and almost got taken and a cyclist hit me at a high rate of speed and broke my phone! It was so dengirous for me… Don’t be like me and use your cell phone while walking!
Put your cell phone in your bag or walk around with both hands guarding it! I recommend you to use a bag with a secure zipper. Be careful with drinking water. This is common sense not only in India but also in other countries.
In most foreign countries, you cannot drink tap water as it is because they do not have water supply systems like in Japan! Especially in India, Please be careful(If you are Japanese who come to india for the first time)
When I first came to India, I accidentally drank tap water in the morning and had a stomachache afterwards When you drink water in a restaurant or other food service If you go to a restaurant above a certain level, you can rest assured that you will not be served tap water for drinking.
However, some food stalls may serve tap water depending on the location, so foreigners should be careful If you are offered water at a restaurant, you should check the sanitary conditions of the restaurant before deciding whether or not to drink the water.
When drinking water in India, it is recommended that you drink commercially bottled water or water that has passed through a water purifier. For example, one of the most famous bottled water in India is Kinley, which is produced by Coca-Cola India. This blue package is a landmark.
Bisleri is also famous! This brand has the largest market share in India with about 200 types of mineral water in India Be careful when buying bottled water! In some places, the contents may have been converted to tap water, so make sure the bottle is unopened before you buy it.
The place where you put your mouth on the bottle may also be dirty, so blow it clean before drinking for safety. Some people use commercially available water or water from a water purifier instead of tap water when brushing their teeth or washing their face, and some use filtered water in the shower.
I think people are divided on whether to use tap water for washing dishes and vegetables. In my case, I use water from a water purifier for washing vegetables and cooking. I use tap water for brushing my teeth, washing my face, and showering.
However, I think tourists’ bodies are still getting used to it so please be careful with water as possible What to watch out for when eating in India Many Japanese people have the image that food in India will upset their stomachs. For this reason, I receive many questions about food in India.
India is great because there are plenty of delicious foods unique to India, such as authentic curry and street food! If you have just arrived from Japan, your body may not be accustomed to the food yet, so you should be careful if you are not confident about your stomach.
For example, the following are some of the causes of stomach upset for tourists in India. 1)Raw vegetables 2)spices and oil 3)and “water” Raw vegetables can cause stomach upset due to the water used to wash them, even if the vegetables are fresh
Indian food uses a lot of spices and oil. Japanese people do not usually use spices very often, so it can be very hard on the stomach and intestines
I am now fine with raw vegetables and Indian food, but when I first came to India, I often had a stomach ache and it was hard to get used to it.
I reccomend for Japanese travelers to do the following until they become accustomed to India. Always eat cooked food. Enjoy Indian food while giving your stomach a rest.
I have previously introduced my usual diet in this video. There are plenty of other stomach-friendly dishes in India besides Indian food! I hope you find the video helpful! 6)What to watch out for when eating street food in India One of the pleasures of India and abroad is street food!
There are many reasonably priced and delicious local street foods in India However, if you have a weak stomach, I recommend that you eat with caution. I love Indian street foods!! When I eat street food, I always pay attention to the following points Choose a food stall with a high turnover rate.
Go to eat at meal times or in the evening when many people gather. I try to avoid the rainy season as much as possible because vegetables and ingredients may be damaged. Some Japanese travelers avoid eating at street stalls in India and other countries because of concerns about hygiene.
I too have a weak stomach, so I was worried at first, but as long as you are careful, you will be fine! There are many delicious street foods, drinks and desserts in India. I hope you get a taste of them in India! 7)When to use cash in India India’s currency is the rupee.
The rupee, India’s currency, comes in banknotes and coins Indian banknotes: 8 types in total (2000 rupees, 500 rupees, 200 rupees, 100 rupees, 50 rupees, 20 rupees, 10 rupees, 5 rupees rupees) There are four types of Indian coins in total (10 rupees, 5 rupees, 2 rupees, and 1 rupee)
Rupees are simple and easy to calculate in yen. However, when actually shopping in India, large amounts of money such as “2000 Rs” or “500 Rs” are often difficult to use. For example, Uber and rickshaw drivers often do not have enough fine cash.
As a result, there are cases where they do not get their change properly and end up paying more. Therefore, it is recommended that cash be prepared in small amounts, such as Rs. 100 or Rs. 50. 8)Don’t be afraid to negotiate! In Japan, people tend not to negotiate when shopping
However here in India, it is still common to negotiate when shopping, so you try to negotiate as much as you can! Of course, in places where you go through a cash register or through services such as UBER, prices are fixed, so you cannot negotiate
If there is no price tag at the local market, or if you are negotiating directly with a rickshaw driver, or if you are asking for the price yourself, let’s try to negotiate! I always try to negotiate when I shop at local markets or take rickshaws.
It is not unusual for foreigners to be quoted prices that are many times higher than the market price. So I try to check the price because there are many similar stores in the local market.
When negotiating with rickshaws, I use apps such as UBER to check the market price in advance and use it as a bargaining chip to see if the price offered is the market price. 9. If there is a restroom, you should go there immediately.
In Japan, toilets can be found everywhere in convenience stores and train stations, but here in India, toilet conditions vary considerably depending on the place you visit. For example, many large urban shopping malls, higher grade hotels, airports, middle class restaurants and bars, etc. often have toilet paper available in the restrooms.
In addition, there are many pay toilets in India. For example, public restrooms in local markets and metro stations in India generally charge a fee for use. There is a person in charge near the restrooms, so give the money to that person before or after using the restroom.
Although it depends on the location, the fee is usually around Rs. 5 (7.5 Japanese yen), which is not that expensive. It is recommended to have a small amount of cash with you in case of emergencies! Unlike Japan, in India there is not always a restroom when you want to go.
Therefore, I recommend that you go to the restroom whenever you can when you find one! I also recommend that you bring tissue paper like this. If you want to know more, check out this video on India’s toilet situation! 10.Beware of Stray Dogs in India
In India, you will see many rare animals such as cows, stray dogs, squirrels, and monkeys that you do not usually see in Japan. One thing to be careful of in India is rabies. Rabies is a terrible disease. If contracted, the fatality rate is said to be 100%.
It is estimated that as many as 20,000 people die from rabies each year in India. It is said that 95% of rabies cases occur in dogs, followed by monkeys. In India, people do not like to kill dogs for religious reasons, and many wild dogs are left unattended in towns and cities.
Dogs are cute and we Japanese like to get close to them. However, we recommend that you do not approach dogs unnecessarily, as they can bite you. Dogs with rabies are said to be wide-eyed, slobbering, and aggressive If you see such a dog, it is important to get away from it immediately.
If you are bitten by a dog, clean and disinfect the area immediately, rush to the hospital, and be sure to have the dog vaccinated. I often hear of cases where people have been bitten by dogs while traveling.
Whenever I walk or run in the city, I always carry a dog-proof stick to prevent dogs! Indians in the neighborhood also often have stiches. Please enjoy your trip while being careful with dogs. 11.Beware of Dengue Fever Dengue fever is an infectious disease that all travelers to India should be aware of beforehand.
Dengue fever is an infectious disease caused by the bite of a mosquito carrying the dengue virus. At this time, there are no vaccinations or effective treatments for dengue fever. Therefore, it is one of the most difficult infectious diseases to contract.
The main symptoms of dengue fever range from high fever to headache, joint pain, nausea and loss of appetite, and last for about a week.
When dengue fever becomes severe, it can cause bleeding and shock symptoms, and special attention should be paid to the second and subsequent dengue infections, as the probability of severe infection increases. Dengue fever is a year-round infectious disease in India.
It is especially prevalent during the monsoon season, when there is a lot of rainfall and mosquitoes are abundant, and during the post-monsoon season (June to November). Actually, I had dengue fever before and suffered really hard! Please watch this video explaining dengue fever based on my real-life experience with dengue fever, before you travel!
1) Symptoms and causes of dengue fever 2) Local medical examination and treatment methods (3) Points to be aware of and more! These are the 11 things you need to know before you come to India! This video summarizes the basics of travel
I hope this has been of some help to those who are coming to India! Thank you for watching to the end of this video!! In this video, I have introduced 11 things that foreign visitors to India for the first time should be aware of beforehand!

Kono kitaindo no bara nashi no
Very good advice in general for anyone coming from a western country too.
今月末に初インドの予定なので、情報を探していたらゆりさんの動画に辿り着きました❣
