First Impressions Of Busan South Korea: AMAZING Pork Bone Soup & Gamcheon Culture Village 🇰🇷

Good morning guys from a new city in South Korea  from the city of Busan today I’ve come to the   south of Busan City to a place called the Gamcheon  cultural Village I caught the Metro here actually  

But I would definitely recommend catching the bus  because the hill up here is pretty steep so let   the bus do the hard work already have these little  narrow winding streets and you can see the type   of houses here all mismash and kind of fitting in  any space that’s possible and wonderfully colored  

Very wonderfully colored found a little Temple  got nice statues of Buddha so it’s a Buddhist   temple and then you have up here wow look at this  loads of statues of Buddha little statues on both  

Sides flanking a larger statue in the middle how  cool is this but gold ones on the front and then   the stone ones on the back this little Temple is  cool I don’t know the name of it but I’ll leave a  

Pin down below as to where I am so you can find  it maybe it’s a good place to start your little   journey around the village because well yes the  statues are pretty but what it does give you is  

A perspective a perspective over the hill and you  can just see how the how the village is clinging   to the side of the Hill here not only that it  gives you a view over the city how amazing is  

That what a stunner little bit hazy but you  can see all the way down to the Sea all the   way down to the port actually buan is a big Port  town but now we’re hungry to explore I’m always  

On the lookout actually I’m always on the lookout  anyway for foodie things so we’ve got more of the   earth and wear pots and then you’ve got someone  right next to the temple they’re growing they   vegetables down here you’ve got lettuces and leaks  and spring onions I can see down there with the  

Perfect backdrop imagine this being your garden  and coming and tending to your garden overlooking that I thought it was a bit strange that I hadn’t  found the tourists but I wasn’t actually at the   main part or the start of the gamon village route  because there’s actually a route for 2001 you get  

A tourist map and you can stamp different  places on your map so they make it like a   game when you stop at each stop you get a stamp  which is quite cool and it’s fine I think to get  

A proper guide around the village it’s worth it  there’s three different routes so we’ll see how   we get on but yeah I found all of the tourists  as you would expect because this is one of the  

Most popular things to do in the whole of Busan  straight away you can see those colorful houses   actually these buildings are very different  to the ones we saw in the outside so maybe   it’s quite a good contrast starting where we did  because the whole village used to look like that  

And in 2009 the government funded an initiative  to turn this area into the cultural park where   they’ve obviously redeveloped it painted it  and essentially made it into the attraction   it is today but I call it an attraction people  do still live here this is still where people  

Live we’ll come on to that in a little bit  but let’s go check out this little museum well they didn’t lie it is small  gives you a little bit of context   actually which is good and we can get our first

Stamp yeah I didn’t do a very good job of that  hard holding the camera so yeah in terms of   History this place was settled by refugees from  the Korean War and actually not that many people   lived here before that but at its peak there were  30,000 people living here and essentially it well  

You can call it what you want it was a deprived  area a shanty or a slum it’s obviously changed   a lot since the government pumped money into it  and really changed it into the tourist attraction  

That it is today but I just love these little  Alleyways when you get away from the main roads   the main tourist Street this is when obviously  you get into the houses of people and actually it  

Obviously turned from a place which was well maybe  not the best place to live in slum style to now   what I would say is a pretty cool place to live so  of course follow the map that’s why that’s why we  

Bought it right but try and get off and look down  those little Alleyways too oh now this this is   the Viewpoint isn’t it look at that this when you  search photos of Busan this is probably the image  

That you see actually this Village Escape looking  down to the port again with the mountains on   either side which is quite cool but the colors the  colors of the rooftops the colors of the buildings   all painted different pastel colors and again you  can just see how closely packed how tight those  

Houses are but very very beautiful very beautiful  now this is almost certainly the best perspective   of the village that you’re going to get so it’s  worth seeking this one out and it is on the stamp  

Tour so don’t worry about that now I don’t I don’t  want to sound rude with this and then by all means   I’m definitely not being rude by this but some  people call it the Santorini of Korea or even  

The Machu Picchu of career in fact they’re bored  saying that it’s the Machu Picchu with the Machu   Picchu project maybe that’s closer to reality  for me it definitely doesn’t give me Santorini   Vibes it does give me Vibes of those towns those  cities in South America in Latin America which  

Are tightly packed like this unfortunately I  want to say Favela (shanty town) I want to say   one of those rundown areas and of course it was a  rundown area but it reminds me of Rio it reminds  

Me of the Favela (shanty town) on the hills  of Rio and that’s not being insulting that is   essentially the style it is actually incredibly  incredibly picturesque just did my second stamp   from the Viewpoint so that’s two stamps now  but you also get given a postcard how cool  

Is that so nice little postcard that I can send  to someone maybe you can be the lucky recipient   anyway I’ve switch to the GoPro because it’s far  easier to walk around with the GoPro right let’s  

Get back on the main road and check out more of  this little village how cool is that nice color   if you haven’t noticed already by what I’ve been  showing you the other famous thing or the other  

Thing this place is famous for does actually speak  English is it street art and there’s street art   everywhere lining the roads almost on every wall  you also obviously have souvenir shops of course   there’s cafes there’s little craft shops there’s  places you can get food everything you need for  

Your little half day trip around the village is  here and then I realized what people are taking   photos of these are two members well Jungkook and  Jimin and I think they’re BTS members or K-pop   band I have really no idea I’ve never heard  of them but apparently they’re from Busan and  

That’s why they’re on the mural here I think  over everything these little narrow streets I   don’t have the energy to climb down and back up  that one but of everything these little narrow   streets I think is what I enjoy the most those  little tight spaces I don’t know why but it’s  

So beautiful for me but amongst or around every  corner you get another little view of the village   because it’s on a hill and it wraps around the  hill you keep getting little Peaks and this one  

This one is really pretty look at that there’s  only one thing to do on a day like this where   the sun is out and I’m starting to burn up and  that is get ice cream but I can’t decide which  

You have the standard ice cream or premium ice  cream anyway which is from the local Farm it   claims but you know these tall Peak ones or this  one with honeycomb which looks pretty spectacular   see the honeycomb real honeycomb I think we’re  going to have to order that aren’t we can I one  

Honeycomb ice cream [Music] please thank you so  much 5,000 1,000 oh my God look at that that is   ridiculous look at the honey I mean the ice cream  looks good for sure soft serve ice cream but that  

Honey on top glistening glistening on top let’s  find somewhere to eat it all right found a little   spot just on a step up a little side alley to  try this it looks so damn good and where the  

Honey has hit the ice cream it freezes a little  and goes even thicker like a thick honey syrup oh man the ice cream in itself is good vanilla  style ice cream nice and sweet nice and creamy   very soft very smooth but that honey that honey is  pretty damn good sweet floral really interesting  

Actually I love a good honey because each honey  is different has a slightly different flavor   depends on where the Beehive is and the flowers  in the area but you cannot beat an ice cream   on a hot day cannot be ice cream when you have  honeycomb and there’s real honeycomb as I said  

On top you can eat that so let’s try a little  bit of that honeycomb I know it’s going to be   a little bit waxy and a little bit sticky but  I do love [Music] it so good 50001 of course  

We’re in a touristy place right so it’s going  to cost more anyway and honeycomb isn’t cheap   absolutely delicious and exactly what I need on  this hot day cream always sorts the problem out   right that was so good I could almost well I  could have another one right now but I’m not  

Going to but do not do not miss that honey ice  cream when you come to gamon Village wow what   a dessert or what a snack people in hok lots of  people queuing for their photos at their favorite  

Spots I feel there’s going to be a good view over  here let’s have a look clearly it’s not wow like   you as long but for what well let’s find out in  a minute but check this view out oh yeah look  

At [Music] that what a place it’s amazing how  somewhere that obviously developed and grew in   times of such hardship people moved here because  of hardship right they were refugees but now we   stand here as a tourist and you watching this  video as a potential tourist and thinking how  

Beautiful it is but have to remember where  it came from the roots of this place wasn’t   all happy colorful buildings and smiles in this  Village should we find out what this queue is for   what do you reckon of course it’s an Instagram  spot and hey it’s the back of me with my curly  

Hair literally everyone is queuing to have a  photo with a little fox and a man that’s not   even looking at them but granted overlooking a  gorgeous view don’t think I’ll be queuing for   that I told you it’s called the Santorini of of  career look I even have a mural of Santorini I  

Don’t think so but great view nonetheless another  spectacular view overlooking the village look at   this just another angle I said there’s just more  and more angles of the same Village when you go   around each of the corners right I’ve come out  to another Viewpoint and yes all the viewpoints  

Look fairly similar but you get different angles  over the village I mean look at this come on can’t   complain even if you are seeing a similar sort of  view looks incredibly incredibly beautiful I just  

Love how it rolls down to the Sea anyway I think  well I think I’ve shown you guys enough of this   little village it’s been fun walking around  getting the stamps also recommend picking up   that map and getting the stamps yourself as  well a nice little challenge to walk around  

We’re not even halfway around the village as well  there’s still more to go so I’m going to carry on   not going to film I’m going leave you guys here  and then we’ll pick up later to get some food

All right guys I’ve just just walking down from  the Gamcheon cultural Village and I found this   little spot it’s absolutely full of locals and  it smells too good not to try here we go it is   Gukbap again and you have the normal one or the  original let’s say with pork thin slivers of  

Pork have this one which looks good which has the  sundae in it I’m not sure what this is this might   be just extra pork or extra chicken and then you  have that with the sundae and then you can have  

The plate of sliced meat sliced pork I have  no idea what is what but the prices are super   reasonable nothing well I presume these are the  bowls and then these the sliced meat plates are   obviously going to be more expensive but as we  saw before they’re sharers but in terms of the  

Uh gukbap bowls all under well 10,000 won or  under can I order the the one with the sundae   sundae yeah please thank you here it is arriving  at the table thank you so you’ve got the the soup  

Itself and then all of oh as it steams up because  it’s so hot all of the condiments they all came   together actually Sometimes they come first so  I was going to show you let me run through you  

Anyway we have chives or scallion tops of course  we have the kimchi cannot have a meal here without   Kim we have the fermented red bean paste the raw  vegetables so you have green chili raw garlic and  

Raw onion and that is to dip into that bean paste  and then this I’ve not seen this before well at   least I’ve not eaten it before I think I’ve seen  it before it they are little shrimp little salted  

Shrimp very salty very Briny and that is to go  inside your gukbap look how good that looks milky   milky broth and you can see it’s absolutely  full of that pork that thin fatty pork as it  

Steams up again sorry guys it is just absolutely  hot because it comes in a terracotta pot that is   absolutely boiling but also ask for sundae in  there as well so again but I also got sundae  

In there as well so that steamed blood sausage  a few condiments I forgot to tell you about in   this pot we have pickled kimchi Style radish so  it’s got the chili paste on there the gotu Jang  

On there and it’s been pickled as well so nice  and acidic have to get some of that in there and   look at that there’s just the juice in the bottom  we get a little bit of that out and cover it over  

Oh yeah you also have this richer spicier chili  paste as well that is to go into the broth so   well let’s try the broth first and then there’s  salt on the side this this is important because  

The the broths don’t always come that salted  you’re meant to kind of salt it how you like   it so that’s the meal let’s get it set up and  get stuck in first up I just want to try the

Broth depth of flavor very very meaty you can  tell it’s been cooked a long long time with all   of that pork and all of those bones probably the  bones actually because it’s so rich and so creamy  

Because of that cloudy color it’s telling me it’s  probably being cooked with the bones but it’s a   little bit salty not too salty so it definitely  needs some salt so let’s hit it with a little bit  

Of salt what I’m also going to do cuz it is  salty I’m going to add a little bit of those   brown shrimps to add a little more saltiness  and a little more not seafoody flavor but that  

Freshness from the sea and then it’s not spicy  at all I’m going to add I don’t know how spicy   it is but I’m going to add some of that chili  paste how good to does that look insanely good  

Right chili paste you know that’s going to taste  good in there so a whole dollar maybe a touch more   two dollops of the chili paste in there and we’ll  give that the stir it needs watch the color change  

Look at that as we steam up once again when it  came to the table it was fizzing bubbling away   it was so hot just look at the color change now  deep red still cloudy of course but look at the  

Color an orange deep orange color oh yes that is  exactly how I want it and we’re going to add a   few of these chives or scallion tops in there  as well if I can pick them up with these metal  

Chopsticks which I can’t let’s try again take two  there we go we’ll add those in there as well and   the Heat of the broth will cook them down just a  little bit and soften them and this place now is  

Really starting to get busy I mean every table  is taken and there’s a queue outside of people   waiting so it looks like in this area this is the  place to come and if the food is good is probably  

The place you need to come on your way down  from the Gamcheon cultural Village or Gamcheon   cultural Village should I say to eat your lunch  now we pimped up the soup let’s taste it oh yes  

The saltiness brings out all of those flavors all  of those meaty flavors and then you get the spicy   kick from the chili paste on the side it’s not  too spicy but just rich and bold and comforting  

Warming I would say I mean not just from the heat  but warming from the flavors as well man it’s good wow sunde spectacular actually it’s very  delicate on the inside Sunday I think this one   is made with looks like there’s a yeah it looks  like it’s the verelli noodles in there so it’s  

Very delicate it’s just held together by the  intestine the the sausage skin on the outside   if I can show you guys it’s just very carefully  held together by that so if you stir it too much  

Which I think I did you break a little bit up  it’s a bit crumbly on the inside but there’s   some spices in there some added warming spices  is it’s super super tasty a little bit of spice  

In there just crumbles and then melts in your  mouth so good and because it’s in that broth   and it is crumbly it means there’s space for  the the sundae to just suck up that broth so  

When you bite into it it’s released into your  mouth so you get the the flavor of the sundae   and then the flavor of the broth as well  where at the very very end because it is  

Blood there is a slight bit bitterness but not  in a bad way in a good way really really like   it and if you want to take that away just  jump in on one of the pickles so pickle radish yeah crunchy slightly Tangy pickle  Korean radish has to be I mean I love kimchi  

But pickle Korean radish has to be up  there with kimchi as one of my favorite   Korean pickles so good I told you what the  game changer is in this broth obviously the   salt but the real game Cher is this chili  paste it’s absolutely insanely good and it  

Just it take it doesn’t just take it out one  notch it takes it up three or four notches I   mean it was a good soup it was a good base to  start with that’s important but after that wow  

I could just have that on its own I don’t  need the meat inside but we should try the   pork I can I’m not going to complain about these  Chopsticks again but that’s thinly sliced pork

Oh that pork it’s soft it’s fatty so the fat  melts in your mouth when you put it in there   but because it is sliced so thinly and Cooks  so perfectly just melts in your mouth very   very good quality of pork the pork flavor is  delicious but you know what I’m forgetting  

Guys what will make this even better is the  rice the rice comes in a little silver pot   so get that open you have nice hot rice in your  little pot you can do it two ways you can take  

The soup or the broth and the meat to the rice  or you can kind of take a little bit off with   your chopsticks dip it in that broth and then  eat it I mean I’m not going to describe rice  

You know that broth with the rice is so good  and I know with some of that meat that rich   fatty pork meat like I say you can just put it  into the broth into the rice sorry see it’s so  

Good I’m losing losing the will to speak take  a little bit of that broth put it in there and   use your chopsticks just to dig it out it is  sticky rice so you should be able to pick it up

Together pork blood sausage rice delicious broth  amazing pickles what more do you want for a lunch   and another thing that I absolutely love maybe as  much as everything else just taking one of those   [Applause] sweet just taking one of those sweet  raw onions and dipping it in that red bean paste

Salty and funky absolutely  delicious absolutely delicious you do not want to miss this meal the thing  I love so much about Korean cuisine is that   because you have these pickles because  you have the kimchi because you have the   fermented things the rice the herbs the  freshness the raw onions the garlic and  

Chilies that can go on maybe the soup on its  own would be too rich cuz it is so powerful   it is so meaty and intense but because you can  pause and pick up some of these pickles or the  

Fermented pastes just keeps it vibrant keeps  it interesting love it if you hadn’t guessed it guys this is the place to come I’m  not going to lie that has got to be   up there with the best things I’ve  eaten in South Korea so far so so so  

Good and for 9000 won fantastic value as well  absolutely jam-packed meat come and eat here
