First Impressions Of Busan South Korea: AMAZING Pork Bone Soup & Gamcheon Culture Village šŸ‡°šŸ‡·

Good morning guys from a new city in South KoreaĀ  from the city of Busan today I’ve come to theĀ Ā  south of Busan City to a place called the GamcheonĀ  cultural Village I caught the Metro here actuallyĀ Ā

But I would definitely recommend catching the busĀ  because the hill up here is pretty steep so letĀ Ā  the bus do the hard work already have these littleĀ  narrow winding streets and you can see the typeĀ Ā  of houses here all mismash and kind of fitting inĀ  any space that’s possible and wonderfully coloredĀ Ā

Very wonderfully colored found a little TempleĀ  got nice statues of Buddha so it’s a BuddhistĀ Ā  temple and then you have up here wow look at thisĀ  loads of statues of Buddha little statues on bothĀ Ā

Sides flanking a larger statue in the middle howĀ  cool is this but gold ones on the front and thenĀ Ā  the stone ones on the back this little Temple isĀ  cool I don’t know the name of it but I’ll leave aĀ Ā

Pin down below as to where I am so you can findĀ  it maybe it’s a good place to start your littleĀ Ā  journey around the village because well yes theĀ  statues are pretty but what it does give you isĀ Ā

A perspective a perspective over the hill and youĀ  can just see how the how the village is clingingĀ Ā  to the side of the Hill here not only that itĀ  gives you a view over the city how amazing isĀ Ā

That what a stunner little bit hazy but youĀ  can see all the way down to the Sea all theĀ Ā  way down to the port actually buan is a big PortĀ  town but now we’re hungry to explore I’m alwaysĀ Ā

On the lookout actually I’m always on the lookoutĀ  anyway for foodie things so we’ve got more of theĀ Ā  earth and wear pots and then you’ve got someoneĀ  right next to the temple they’re growing theyĀ Ā  vegetables down here you’ve got lettuces and leaksĀ  and spring onions I can see down there with theĀ Ā

Perfect backdrop imagine this being your gardenĀ  and coming and tending to your garden overlooking that I thought it was a bit strange that I hadn’tĀ  found the tourists but I wasn’t actually at theĀ Ā  main part or the start of the gamon village routeĀ  because there’s actually a route for 2001 you getĀ Ā

A tourist map and you can stamp differentĀ  places on your map so they make it like aĀ Ā  game when you stop at each stop you get a stampĀ  which is quite cool and it’s fine I think to getĀ Ā

A proper guide around the village it’s worth itĀ  there’s three different routes so we’ll see howĀ Ā  we get on but yeah I found all of the touristsĀ  as you would expect because this is one of theĀ Ā

Most popular things to do in the whole of BusanĀ  straight away you can see those colorful housesĀ Ā  actually these buildings are very differentĀ  to the ones we saw in the outside so maybeĀ Ā  it’s quite a good contrast starting where we didĀ  because the whole village used to look like thatĀ Ā

And in 2009 the government funded an initiativeĀ  to turn this area into the cultural park whereĀ Ā  they’ve obviously redeveloped it painted itĀ  and essentially made it into the attractionĀ Ā  it is today but I call it an attraction peopleĀ  do still live here this is still where peopleĀ Ā

Live we’ll come on to that in a little bitĀ  but let’s go check out this little museum well they didn’t lie it is smallĀ  gives you a little bit of contextĀ Ā  actually which is good and we can get our first

Stamp yeah I didn’t do a very good job of thatĀ  hard holding the camera so yeah in terms ofĀ Ā  History this place was settled by refugees fromĀ  the Korean War and actually not that many peopleĀ Ā  lived here before that but at its peak there wereĀ  30,000 people living here and essentially it wellĀ Ā

You can call it what you want it was a deprivedĀ  area a shanty or a slum it’s obviously changedĀ Ā  a lot since the government pumped money into itĀ  and really changed it into the tourist attractionĀ Ā

That it is today but I just love these littleĀ  Alleyways when you get away from the main roadsĀ Ā  the main tourist Street this is when obviouslyĀ  you get into the houses of people and actually itĀ Ā

Obviously turned from a place which was well maybeĀ  not the best place to live in slum style to nowĀ Ā  what I would say is a pretty cool place to live soĀ  of course follow the map that’s why that’s why weĀ Ā

Bought it right but try and get off and look downĀ  those little Alleyways too oh now this this isĀ Ā  the Viewpoint isn’t it look at that this when youĀ  search photos of Busan this is probably the imageĀ Ā

That you see actually this Village Escape lookingĀ  down to the port again with the mountains onĀ Ā  either side which is quite cool but the colors theĀ  colors of the rooftops the colors of the buildingsĀ Ā  all painted different pastel colors and again youĀ  can just see how closely packed how tight thoseĀ Ā

Houses are but very very beautiful very beautifulĀ  now this is almost certainly the best perspectiveĀ Ā  of the village that you’re going to get so it’sĀ  worth seeking this one out and it is on the stampĀ Ā

Tour so don’t worry about that now I don’t I don’tĀ  want to sound rude with this and then by all meansĀ Ā  I’m definitely not being rude by this but someĀ  people call it the Santorini of Korea or evenĀ Ā

The Machu Picchu of career in fact they’re boredĀ  saying that it’s the Machu Picchu with the MachuĀ Ā  Picchu project maybe that’s closer to realityĀ  for me it definitely doesn’t give me SantoriniĀ Ā  Vibes it does give me Vibes of those towns thoseĀ  cities in South America in Latin America whichĀ Ā

Are tightly packed like this unfortunately IĀ  want to say Favela (shanty town) I want to sayĀ Ā  one of those rundown areas and of course it was aĀ  rundown area but it reminds me of Rio it remindsĀ Ā

Me of the Favela (shanty town) on the hillsĀ  of Rio and that’s not being insulting that isĀ Ā  essentially the style it is actually incrediblyĀ  incredibly picturesque just did my second stampĀ Ā  from the Viewpoint so that’s two stamps nowĀ  but you also get given a postcard how coolĀ Ā

Is that so nice little postcard that I can sendĀ  to someone maybe you can be the lucky recipientĀ Ā  anyway I’ve switch to the GoPro because it’s farĀ  easier to walk around with the GoPro right let’sĀ Ā

Get back on the main road and check out more ofĀ  this little village how cool is that nice colorĀ Ā  if you haven’t noticed already by what I’ve beenĀ  showing you the other famous thing or the otherĀ Ā

Thing this place is famous for does actually speakĀ  English is it street art and there’s street artĀ Ā  everywhere lining the roads almost on every wallĀ  you also obviously have souvenir shops of courseĀ Ā  there’s cafes there’s little craft shops there’sĀ  places you can get food everything you need forĀ Ā

Your little half day trip around the village isĀ  here and then I realized what people are takingĀ Ā  photos of these are two members well Jungkook andĀ  Jimin and I think they’re BTS members or K-popĀ Ā  band I have really no idea I’ve never heardĀ  of them but apparently they’re from Busan andĀ Ā

That’s why they’re on the mural here I thinkĀ  over everything these little narrow streets IĀ Ā  don’t have the energy to climb down and back upĀ  that one but of everything these little narrowĀ Ā  streets I think is what I enjoy the most thoseĀ  little tight spaces I don’t know why but it’sĀ Ā

So beautiful for me but amongst or around everyĀ  corner you get another little view of the villageĀ Ā  because it’s on a hill and it wraps around theĀ  hill you keep getting little Peaks and this oneĀ Ā

This one is really pretty look at that there’sĀ  only one thing to do on a day like this whereĀ Ā  the sun is out and I’m starting to burn up andĀ  that is get ice cream but I can’t decide whichĀ Ā

You have the standard ice cream or premium iceĀ  cream anyway which is from the local Farm itĀ Ā  claims but you know these tall Peak ones or thisĀ  one with honeycomb which looks pretty spectacularĀ Ā  see the honeycomb real honeycomb I think we’reĀ  going to have to order that aren’t we can I oneĀ Ā

Honeycomb ice cream [Music] please thank you soĀ  much 5,000 1,000 oh my God look at that that isĀ Ā  ridiculous look at the honey I mean the ice creamĀ  looks good for sure soft serve ice cream but thatĀ Ā

Honey on top glistening glistening on top let’sĀ  find somewhere to eat it all right found a littleĀ Ā  spot just on a step up a little side alley toĀ  try this it looks so damn good and where theĀ Ā

Honey has hit the ice cream it freezes a littleĀ  and goes even thicker like a thick honey syrup oh man the ice cream in itself is good vanillaĀ  style ice cream nice and sweet nice and creamyĀ Ā  very soft very smooth but that honey that honey isĀ  pretty damn good sweet floral really interestingĀ Ā

Actually I love a good honey because each honeyĀ  is different has a slightly different flavorĀ Ā  depends on where the Beehive is and the flowersĀ  in the area but you cannot beat an ice creamĀ Ā  on a hot day cannot be ice cream when you haveĀ  honeycomb and there’s real honeycomb as I saidĀ Ā

On top you can eat that so let’s try a littleĀ  bit of that honeycomb I know it’s going to beĀ Ā  a little bit waxy and a little bit sticky butĀ  I do love [Music] it so good 50001 of courseĀ Ā

We’re in a touristy place right so it’s goingĀ  to cost more anyway and honeycomb isn’t cheapĀ Ā  absolutely delicious and exactly what I need onĀ  this hot day cream always sorts the problem outĀ Ā  right that was so good I could almost well IĀ  could have another one right now but I’m notĀ Ā

Going to but do not do not miss that honey iceĀ  cream when you come to gamon Village wow whatĀ Ā  a dessert or what a snack people in hok lots ofĀ  people queuing for their photos at their favoriteĀ Ā

Spots I feel there’s going to be a good view overĀ  here let’s have a look clearly it’s not wow likeĀ Ā  you as long but for what well let’s find out inĀ  a minute but check this view out oh yeah lookĀ Ā

At [Music] that what a place it’s amazing howĀ  somewhere that obviously developed and grew inĀ Ā  times of such hardship people moved here becauseĀ  of hardship right they were refugees but now weĀ Ā  stand here as a tourist and you watching thisĀ  video as a potential tourist and thinking howĀ Ā

Beautiful it is but have to remember whereĀ  it came from the roots of this place wasn’tĀ Ā  all happy colorful buildings and smiles in thisĀ  Village should we find out what this queue is forĀ Ā  what do you reckon of course it’s an InstagramĀ  spot and hey it’s the back of me with my curlyĀ Ā

Hair literally everyone is queuing to have aĀ  photo with a little fox and a man that’s notĀ Ā  even looking at them but granted overlooking aĀ  gorgeous view don’t think I’ll be queuing forĀ Ā  that I told you it’s called the Santorini of ofĀ  career look I even have a mural of Santorini IĀ Ā

Don’t think so but great view nonetheless anotherĀ  spectacular view overlooking the village look atĀ Ā  this just another angle I said there’s just moreĀ  and more angles of the same Village when you goĀ Ā  around each of the corners right I’ve come outĀ  to another Viewpoint and yes all the viewpointsĀ Ā

Look fairly similar but you get different anglesĀ  over the village I mean look at this come on can’tĀ Ā  complain even if you are seeing a similar sort ofĀ  view looks incredibly incredibly beautiful I justĀ Ā

Love how it rolls down to the Sea anyway I thinkĀ  well I think I’ve shown you guys enough of thisĀ Ā  little village it’s been fun walking aroundĀ  getting the stamps also recommend picking upĀ Ā  that map and getting the stamps yourself asĀ  well a nice little challenge to walk aroundĀ Ā

We’re not even halfway around the village as wellĀ  there’s still more to go so I’m going to carry onĀ Ā  not going to film I’m going leave you guys hereĀ  and then we’ll pick up later to get some food

All right guys I’ve just just walking down fromĀ  the Gamcheon cultural Village and I found thisĀ Ā  little spot it’s absolutely full of locals andĀ  it smells too good not to try here we go it isĀ Ā  Gukbap again and you have the normal one or theĀ  original let’s say with pork thin slivers ofĀ Ā

Pork have this one which looks good which has theĀ  sundae in it I’m not sure what this is this mightĀ Ā  be just extra pork or extra chicken and then youĀ  have that with the sundae and then you can haveĀ Ā

The plate of sliced meat sliced pork I haveĀ  no idea what is what but the prices are superĀ Ā  reasonable nothing well I presume these are theĀ  bowls and then these the sliced meat plates areĀ Ā  obviously going to be more expensive but as weĀ  saw before they’re sharers but in terms of theĀ Ā

Uh gukbap bowls all under well 10,000 won orĀ  under can I order the the one with the sundaeĀ Ā  sundae yeah please thank you here it is arrivingĀ  at the table thank you so you’ve got the the soupĀ Ā

Itself and then all of oh as it steams up becauseĀ  it’s so hot all of the condiments they all cameĀ Ā  together actually Sometimes they come first soĀ  I was going to show you let me run through youĀ Ā

Anyway we have chives or scallion tops of courseĀ  we have the kimchi cannot have a meal here withoutĀ Ā  Kim we have the fermented red bean paste the rawĀ  vegetables so you have green chili raw garlic andĀ Ā

Raw onion and that is to dip into that bean pasteĀ  and then this I’ve not seen this before well atĀ Ā  least I’ve not eaten it before I think I’ve seenĀ  it before it they are little shrimp little saltedĀ Ā

Shrimp very salty very Briny and that is to goĀ  inside your gukbap look how good that looks milkyĀ Ā  milky broth and you can see it’s absolutelyĀ  full of that pork that thin fatty pork as itĀ Ā

Steams up again sorry guys it is just absolutelyĀ  hot because it comes in a terracotta pot that isĀ Ā  absolutely boiling but also ask for sundae inĀ  there as well so again but I also got sundaeĀ Ā

In there as well so that steamed blood sausageĀ  a few condiments I forgot to tell you about inĀ Ā  this pot we have pickled kimchi Style radish soĀ  it’s got the chili paste on there the gotu JangĀ Ā

On there and it’s been pickled as well so niceĀ  and acidic have to get some of that in there andĀ Ā  look at that there’s just the juice in the bottomĀ  we get a little bit of that out and cover it overĀ Ā

Oh yeah you also have this richer spicier chiliĀ  paste as well that is to go into the broth soĀ Ā  well let’s try the broth first and then there’sĀ  salt on the side this this is important becauseĀ Ā

The the broths don’t always come that saltedĀ  you’re meant to kind of salt it how you likeĀ Ā  it so that’s the meal let’s get it set up andĀ  get stuck in first up I just want to try the

Broth depth of flavor very very meaty you canĀ  tell it’s been cooked a long long time with allĀ Ā  of that pork and all of those bones probably theĀ  bones actually because it’s so rich and so creamyĀ Ā

Because of that cloudy color it’s telling me it’sĀ  probably being cooked with the bones but it’s aĀ Ā  little bit salty not too salty so it definitelyĀ  needs some salt so let’s hit it with a little bitĀ Ā

Of salt what I’m also going to do cuz it isĀ  salty I’m going to add a little bit of thoseĀ Ā  brown shrimps to add a little more saltinessĀ  and a little more not seafoody flavor but thatĀ Ā

Freshness from the sea and then it’s not spicyĀ  at all I’m going to add I don’t know how spicyĀ Ā  it is but I’m going to add some of that chiliĀ  paste how good to does that look insanely goodĀ Ā

Right chili paste you know that’s going to tasteĀ  good in there so a whole dollar maybe a touch moreĀ Ā  two dollops of the chili paste in there and we’llĀ  give that the stir it needs watch the color changeĀ Ā

Look at that as we steam up once again when itĀ  came to the table it was fizzing bubbling awayĀ Ā  it was so hot just look at the color change nowĀ  deep red still cloudy of course but look at theĀ Ā

Color an orange deep orange color oh yes that isĀ  exactly how I want it and we’re going to add aĀ Ā  few of these chives or scallion tops in thereĀ  as well if I can pick them up with these metalĀ Ā

Chopsticks which I can’t let’s try again take twoĀ  there we go we’ll add those in there as well andĀ Ā  the Heat of the broth will cook them down just aĀ  little bit and soften them and this place now isĀ Ā

Really starting to get busy I mean every tableĀ  is taken and there’s a queue outside of peopleĀ Ā  waiting so it looks like in this area this is theĀ  place to come and if the food is good is probablyĀ Ā

The place you need to come on your way downĀ  from the Gamcheon cultural Village or GamcheonĀ Ā  cultural Village should I say to eat your lunchĀ  now we pimped up the soup let’s taste it oh yesĀ Ā

The saltiness brings out all of those flavors allĀ  of those meaty flavors and then you get the spicyĀ Ā  kick from the chili paste on the side it’s notĀ  too spicy but just rich and bold and comfortingĀ Ā

Warming I would say I mean not just from the heatĀ  but warming from the flavors as well man it’s good wow sunde spectacular actually it’s veryĀ  delicate on the inside Sunday I think this oneĀ Ā  is made with looks like there’s a yeah it looksĀ  like it’s the verelli noodles in there so it’sĀ Ā

Very delicate it’s just held together by theĀ  intestine the the sausage skin on the outsideĀ Ā  if I can show you guys it’s just very carefullyĀ  held together by that so if you stir it too muchĀ Ā

Which I think I did you break a little bit upĀ  it’s a bit crumbly on the inside but there’sĀ Ā  some spices in there some added warming spicesĀ  is it’s super super tasty a little bit of spiceĀ Ā

In there just crumbles and then melts in yourĀ  mouth so good and because it’s in that brothĀ Ā  and it is crumbly it means there’s space forĀ  the the sundae to just suck up that broth soĀ Ā

When you bite into it it’s released into yourĀ  mouth so you get the the flavor of the sundaeĀ Ā  and then the flavor of the broth as wellĀ  where at the very very end because it isĀ Ā

Blood there is a slight bit bitterness but notĀ  in a bad way in a good way really really likeĀ Ā  it and if you want to take that away justĀ  jump in on one of the pickles so pickle radish yeah crunchy slightly Tangy pickleĀ  Korean radish has to be I mean I love kimchiĀ Ā

But pickle Korean radish has to be upĀ  there with kimchi as one of my favoriteĀ Ā  Korean pickles so good I told you what theĀ  game changer is in this broth obviously theĀ Ā  salt but the real game Cher is this chiliĀ  paste it’s absolutely insanely good and itĀ Ā

Just it take it doesn’t just take it out oneĀ  notch it takes it up three or four notches IĀ Ā  mean it was a good soup it was a good base toĀ  start with that’s important but after that wowĀ Ā

I could just have that on its own I don’tĀ  need the meat inside but we should try theĀ Ā  pork I can I’m not going to complain about theseĀ  Chopsticks again but that’s thinly sliced pork

Oh that pork it’s soft it’s fatty so the fatĀ  melts in your mouth when you put it in thereĀ Ā  but because it is sliced so thinly and CooksĀ  so perfectly just melts in your mouth veryĀ Ā  very good quality of pork the pork flavor isĀ  delicious but you know what I’m forgettingĀ Ā

Guys what will make this even better is theĀ  rice the rice comes in a little silver potĀ Ā  so get that open you have nice hot rice in yourĀ  little pot you can do it two ways you can takeĀ Ā

The soup or the broth and the meat to the riceĀ  or you can kind of take a little bit off withĀ Ā  your chopsticks dip it in that broth and thenĀ  eat it I mean I’m not going to describe riceĀ Ā

You know that broth with the rice is so goodĀ  and I know with some of that meat that richĀ Ā  fatty pork meat like I say you can just put itĀ  into the broth into the rice sorry see it’s soĀ Ā

Good I’m losing losing the will to speak takeĀ  a little bit of that broth put it in there andĀ Ā  use your chopsticks just to dig it out it isĀ  sticky rice so you should be able to pick it up

Together pork blood sausage rice delicious brothĀ  amazing pickles what more do you want for a lunchĀ Ā  and another thing that I absolutely love maybe asĀ  much as everything else just taking one of thoseĀ Ā  [Applause] sweet just taking one of those sweetĀ  raw onions and dipping it in that red bean paste

Salty and funky absolutelyĀ  delicious absolutely delicious you do not want to miss this meal the thingĀ  I love so much about Korean cuisine is thatĀ Ā  because you have these pickles becauseĀ  you have the kimchi because you have theĀ Ā  fermented things the rice the herbs theĀ  freshness the raw onions the garlic andĀ Ā

Chilies that can go on maybe the soup on itsĀ  own would be too rich cuz it is so powerfulĀ Ā  it is so meaty and intense but because you canĀ  pause and pick up some of these pickles or theĀ Ā

Fermented pastes just keeps it vibrant keepsĀ  it interesting love it if you hadn’t guessed it guys this is the place to come I’mĀ  not going to lie that has got to beĀ Ā  up there with the best things I’veĀ  eaten in South Korea so far so so soĀ Ā

Good and for 9000 won fantastic value as wellĀ  absolutely jam-packed meat come and eat here

  2. Highlight for me would have been the food šŸ˜‹,. I think Spain is much more interesting when it comes to uniqueness and views.

  3. Mark Wiens just dropped a Portuguese Peri Peri vLog.
Not entirely sure why your videos aren't getting the views they deserve.
I'll have a good think. Became it's perplexing me.

  4. Thank you for adding Korean subtitles. I can't speak English because I am Korean, so I enjoyed watching the video because there were Korean subtitles in the English video. I enjoyed watching this Busan videošŸ˜€
