Lost Railway of Okinawa More than 80 years ago, there were several railways in Okinawa Prefecture, one of which was the Okinawa Guard Railway, which ran from Naha to Yonabaru in the east, Kadena in the north, and Itoman in the south. The light railway started in 1914 and was loved by Okinawans. However ,
Around 1944, when the former Japanese army landed in Naha, its role changed to a military railway . Many people know about trains, but don’t know that trams also ran in Okinawa. Okinawa Electric Mobile
Opened in May 1914, seven months earlier than the light railway, as a line connecting what is now Higashimachi, Naha City, to Shuri. It was so popular that many people flocked to see it for the first time when it first opened
. In Okinawa, it was called the Chin Chin Densha because of the distinctive sound of the train’s whistle. However, when a rival bus route appeared, the number of users decreased dramatically, and it was discontinued in 1933 after just 20 years.
