My Thai Husband Took Me BACK TO HIS HOMETOWN IN ISAN 🇹🇭 Khon Kaen, Thailand

Good morning we had a huge change of plans  since our last video where we were camping   in the mountains in the Chiang Mai province we  actually made it now to Khon Kaen which is in Isan   the Northeast part of Thailand specifically in  this town small small town called Ban Phai which  

Is Note’s hometown it’s where he was born where  he spent the first 12 years of his life we are   here because we are meeting a special someone  ready turn the camera this way Rocket is here  

Rocket is back but Rocket looks slightly different  yeah he’s a lot shorter we did a lot of upgrades   on Rocket because during the past few weeks we  read all the comments and all the suggestions   about what to do to Rocket to make him drive  better and suitable for a long distance trip  

We lowered him down quite a bit and the wheels are  so much smaller now they’re kind of nice with the   the white letters around them makes it look more  sporty so he’s not as aggressive looking he looks  

Very um friendly now yeah we also changed all  the axles because it was so high up there was   so much um stress on the axle new suspensions new  shock absorbance I think Rocket is ready to go on  

Another trip we’re not sure yet we haven’t taken  him out for a long distance drive yet we’re not   being too ambitious let’s just say since we’re in Isan and since your Mom is also  

Right now in Nakhon Phanom so I think we’ll just  take it slow and drive from here to Nakhon Phanom   but make some stops to check out some places  I missed you Rocket oh this feels so good

Look at this even new cover on the steering wheel  so you may be wondering why Rocket is here in Isan   um last time we showed you where Rocket was it  was in Songkhla down in the south of Thailand  

We were having a hard time finding the right  person to fix Rocket um and there was someone   here in Note’s hometown that was able to do it and  that’s why that’s why we’re here so I was talking  

To my Mom and my brother about where we can find  a garage to fix up Rocket they both said that they   know one person who we can trust and who’s really  good at what he does and can do everything for us  

It’s my biological Father who I have haven’t been  in contact with for more than 25 years isn’t that   crazy it’s pretty crazy it’s really crazy just  having Rocket has brought us a lot of headache   but also a lot of like interesting things have  happened since we have Rocket including yeah  

Coming back here it wasn’t part of the plan  at all to be back here now Rocket is ready and I   met my Dad and it was a very positive experience  he’s certainly good at what he does though yeah  

And he was excited to work on Rocket should  we give it a try and take it out for a spin mhm still sexy yeah still sexy so far so good it is a lot less Rocky yeah oh look  at this oh look another Caribian cute a nice white  

One yeah not as cool as ours though no it’s not  as cool Rocky is the coolest you want to hear a   fun fact okay you see that hotel over there mhm  wan chai Hotel let’s where I lost my virginity

Well this is your hometown after all  so I’m sure you have more fun facts   about this town not going to go into more details so we’ve been here for a couple days waiting for  Rocket to get fixed um so we’ve been walking down  

Memory lane a little bit just going to the market  going uh to the stationary store that Note used   to buy his school supplies uh checking out his  best friend’s house uh who no longer lives here  

Or he’s also lost contact with but just kind of  you know sharing fun facts uh about this place   with me and there is one more place he wants to go  to before we leave Ban Phai I want to show you my  

Home where I grew up I want to see what it’s like  there’s so many stories I I can tell you it’s like   endless every road I drive every buildings I see  brings back memories that I had long forgotten my  

Old house is up here to the left it’s still a  garage this one here no no no no this one here   oh with this uh gray car it doesn’t look like a  house no it it’s just a garage it’s changed so  

Much will people think we’re trespassing I think  we can go in yeah just to the back yeah you want   to maybe acknowledge that man standing there  hello we’re just visiting we’re just visiting this building the abandoned building I used to  climb with my brother and play there all the  

Time that is so dangerous and you’re speaking  like you’re saying about how old like 8 years   old 7 8 9 10? it’s pretty high yeah and there  used to be um pile of sand and we would climb  

Up and jump from the top into the sand pile I  love climbing things and I want to show you one   more spot you see the wall here this is where  I got this nasty scar because I climbed the  

Wall and that wall used to have a lot of broken  bottles to prevent people from climbing but I   wanted to get um mango on the other side and  I fell and then my arm got cut into a broken  

Bottle it was so scary you must have been such  a headache for your parents yes I got a lot of   stitches on my head because I kept running into  things I keep hurting myself looking at it now I  

Will never climb it even without the broken  bottles oh my God that’s so nasty I used to   slide back and forth in the bathroom floor  look at how nasty this washroom is yeah I’ve   heard stories where you said like you would  fill up the bathroom the washroom floor and  

Slide back and like put soap in the water right  and then slide back and forth to your brother   like I was like oh okay that sounds weird but  seeing it is is it is gross but it was one of  

Your most fondest memories mhm of this house  you you thought it was the most amazing thing this is so surreal okay let’s  go find something to eat this   is a this is a good um walking  down the memory lane experience

I remember you telling me that your hometown  is famous for pork floss and pork jerky yeah   so we must let’s get some for your Mom right  well we’ll see her in like a week or two yeah

We need to get this that looks yummy it’s pork  jerky and you can see like whole coriander seeds   on it this is almost like what your Mom made for  us when we went on the road trip in Canada she  

Marinated um but she did bison cuz we were in  Canada bison marinated in like coriander fish   sauce soy sauce this one is a sweet kind this one  is a crispy kind this is also delicious oh this is  

My childhood’s favorite this one is a smashed one they smashed the pork get this one okay shredded crispy pork with some sticky rice oh my God the  thing is I really like pork floss as   well it’s something that I eat growing  up with congee with rice whenever I’m  

Sick my mom makes me like just normal  plain white congee with pork floss would you like this I know I would like  it but we already have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7   items you want one more yeah well we’re  here once in once in every 25 years you  

Should get it okay we got everything this should last us  a whole month watch out for the sausage one final stop before we leave Ban  Phai since you are here in Isan want to take you to the real Isan  restaurant okay I love Isan food

Did you see this Michelin 2023 2024 in your  hometown yeah 2 years straight this is a real   Isan food a lot of items on here that you you  cannot find any anywhere else so this place   is called So Jeng so in Isan means surrender  Jeng means bankrupt so together surrendering  

To the bankruptcy it’s like fail I’m willing  to go bankrupt that’s the name because the   owner she’s a business woman and she opened  so many businesses before and they all went   bankrupt and one day her friend said why  don’t you open a restaurant you can cook  

Really well so she opened one and she named  it I’m Willing To Go Bankrupt just to almost   like jinx it reverse the curse and 40 plus  years later she’s still here earning two   Michelin guides two years straight that’s  pretty amazing she reversed it all right

We have this is the signature one the  the beef bile soup yes I’m excited for this   I’m nervous about that one I want to see  how you like it and we have the popular   Isan dish laab this is the cooked one you  can also order raw version this is cooked  

Pork yeah and this looks so good we said three  chilies but look how red it is it looks spicy I’m   hoping the redness is coming from the tomatoes  not the chilies cuz it does look like bold and  

Spicy I find Isan food spicy wait what are you  doing why you using your spoon I didn’t clean my   hands you’re in Isan you have to take sticky rice  like this and then you grab your som tam

You eat it like this how is it it’s really good I cannot cuz I injured my finger so I’m going   to use my spoon but how you do it does look  more yummy you can do it with the the laab too

Oh my God oh my God which one  the laab is so delicious is it okay can you tell the difference they put more roasted rice it has a nice  smell but also a nice crunch to it I feel  

Like now that I’ve had these bold flavors  than the normal for me the normal Isan food   like som tam and laab which I used to think was  like oh my God is a lot less on the oh   my God scale because the flavors are  so much bolder in like real Isan food

The veggies are so fresh too the  fresh veggies that they have what   you usually do is that you take a bite of laab and then you eat with this flower just so delicious yeah this one is called sadao very popular   among Isan people eat the whole  bite it’s very sweet at the end

It’s so bitter it dried my whole mouth up  it’s astringent that’s what it is it’s like   I just I was trying to keep straight face  it’s like I swallowed some sand in my mouth is this the hotel  what is it 185 Residence yep this one right here good  

Location right by the the lake I would say that  was a success because driving to here rocket was   so smooth so smooth at one point we were going  90 passing trucks yeah pass the trucks and we  

Weren’t swaying yeah before going 70 would have  been so shaky already you did a good job Rocky   it’s so nice now that we have a car packing is  so much easier it’s just like shoving everything   into the car like before you locked the car yeah see you rocket did you see

9.0 2023 popular Awards guess how much we are  paying a night 1,000 925 Baht oh that’s really good and I think   it’s like a 4minute walk to the lake oh no way  there’s a rooftop what we’re the highest floor  

There’s a gym there’s there’s weights for you  nice oh my goodness that’s beautiful you can   see the temple from here and I think the chedi we’re going to is behind this building but this   is a beautiful view I didn’t know there was  a rooftop this is a bonus for sure wow nice

Room so spacious there a couch  TV it’s a king-size bed that’s   so nice oh it’s like a kitchen area  too yeah we have Lake View look at that good job babe nice place awesome let’s try  out the bed ready okay 3 2 1

What the I Almost jumped right  into you I was going to go this way a bit hard but no it’s good it’s just there’s  not much bounce to it it’s nice 925 bucks that’s a steal wow wow it’s so Grand it’s like a  pyramid shape this is new I’ve never seen  

This before I think it was it’s built  for a while though probably less than   30 years really cuz it wasn’t here when  I used to live here do you see what I see   the dinosaur because Khon Kaen is very well  known for dinosaurs um fossil yes fossil  

There’s like a huge um what do you call it a  dinosaur fossil Museum outside of town I saw   that as like one of the top things to do  see when I was a kid I used to go there

We’re here actually a bit late it’s already 4:30  but the temple closes at 5:00 so I think we need to   hurry up because we want to make it up to the  ninth floor which is the top because you get a  

Great view of the lake but also you are supposed  to be the closest to Buddha up there because there   is a special like what a relic on the top  floor this is beautiful yeah this is pretty amazing so we quickly made it to the sixth  floor and it says actually each floor has  

This says this one is the floor with the  Bronze Statues of the month so each floor   kind of had the different purpose like  the one of the floors was for meditation   and then there was another floor that was  like artifacts so that’s kind of neat like  

If you’re into Buddhism and want to learn more  about it that each floor has something to check out or you can just go outside  and catch your breath for a second the room is getting smaller and smaller  because it’s a pyramid shape and the staircase  

Are getting steeper and steeper and shorter and  shorter yeah this is the final floor wow that’s beautiful you can see the whole lake from here if you come on this side you can see the  scale of the city all the high rises are over  

There it’s actually one of the fastest growing  regions in Thailand that’s what I read online   do you know what is produced in this area in Khon Kaen  rice mhm sticky rice Isan people love Sticky   Rice silk silk like Silk worm right no just like  high quality silk and you know what Isan people  

Are known for what good looks I don’t believe no  it’s true a lot of famous Thai celebrities are   from Isan including me yeah another thing that  Isan people is known for is that we are very   superstitious superstitious yes and we like  to pray for good luck and for wealth and for  

Money and we also love to buy lottery oh man we  were sitting at a restaurant and I think that’s   probably the most I’ve ever seen like nine  different lottery vendors come by every five   minutes there’s even one here and you’re saying  it like we’re not part of it but we bought three  

Lottery tickets since we’ve been in Isan I’m Isan boy so I’m saying we should get one here   you want me to choose or you want you to choose  I know um how many stories are there again nine  

I think it needs to end with nine and how many  Buddha uh relics on top oh I don’t know one I   saw one two three five so four one in each corner  and one in the middle really super you’re doing  

This the really Isan style yeah so 9 5 wait let me  look in the clouds and see how many clouds I see   or if you see numbers like anything resemble a  number oh I see three dinosaurs so 953 okay we  

Couldn’t find the exact 953 but we can find  one that has those three numbers in it if we   win this it’s 6 million Baht that’s uh quite a  lot of money enough to build our own bed and breakfast

Yes I think that’s what we would do with it I  don’t think it’s enough money for us to like   retire and not do anything for the rest of our  life but definitely build our Dream business I guess we didn’t need the chairs no but  we might as like used them since  

We brought them will they fit here here nice  perfect maybe move over just a tiny bit so I   don’t have the things in there yeah did you bring  snacks I did the Sesame balls and the smashed

Pork let’s try the smashed pork first wow I  haven’t had this for so long I dropped a piece damn that’s so delicious that’s good  that’s good M how many did we buy two oh good  

My mom doesn’t need any she’s going to see that  you ate hers so tomorrow we are leaving Khon Kaen and   making our way to Udon Thani which is another one  of the big provinces in Isan and there

Is a very beautiful Red Lotus Lake that we want  to go see and right now it’s the perfect time   yeah to visit and then after we’re going to  make our way to Nakhon Phanom where Note’s mom lives  

So we’ll meet her there to deliver if there’s  any left if there’s any left cuz at the speed   that you’re eating nothing’s going to be so  stay tuned for the next couple episodes of   our Isan adventures as always thank you so  much for watching we will see you in the

We made our way to Note’s hometown in Isan to meet a special someone that’s been waiting for us there. We also visited Note’s childhood home, ate some of the most delicious Isan food and then made our way to the famous temple in Khon Kaen to ask for blessings and luck for the start of our Isan road trip.
