Taipei Travel🇹🇼 | Must Eat Taiwan Street Food Tour
Today we are going on a journey to enjoy delicious Taiwanese food in Taipei. Please enjoy the Journey. 10:00 p.m. Boarding a Japanese LCC, PEACH. The flight to Taipei takes about 4 hours. The flight took off almost on time. The flight is almost full on Friday.
Since it is an LCC, there is no meal on board. Instead, you can order a small meal or Japanese snacks. I finished my meal at the airport, so I would like to spend the rest of the night sleeping until arrival in Taipei. 1:30 a.m. I have arrived at Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan.
This is the time of day when trains from the airport to Taipei City are no longer in service. There is still the last bus leaving at 2:10 AM. There are only 40 minutes left. Let’s hurry. Finally, I was able to enter the country. It is already 2:00 AM.
There are only 10 minutes left until the bus departs. There should be a bus ticket counter ahead. It’s so hot! Here we are! They are still selling tickets, so it looks like I can get on the bus. I will take bus No. 1815 operated by Kuo-Kuang Bus.
I was able to buy a ticket, so hurry to the bus station! There was a huge line of people waiting to get on the bus. The fare from Airport to Taipei Station is 132 TWD ($4.2). I am glad I could buy a ticket.
But the line was so long that I was not sure if I could really get on the bus. But everyone is calmly waiting in line. Well, it will be all right. I could not get on! Only one last bus was available and most of the customers did not get on it.
I couldn’t wait until the first bus at 4:30 a.m., so I switched to a taxi. It was already 3:00 am. I can’t wait to sleep at the hotel. I arrived at a hotel near Taipei Station. I am paying by credit card. The taxi fare is 1,365 TWD ($43.5).
I will stay at Formosa101 Taipei. One night stay is 1,700 TWD ($54.2). Self check-in is required after 21:00. Extremely small beds. The room is large enough and clean. The bathroom looks like this. It is already 4:00 a.m., so let’s go to bed early. Good morning. I came to a market near the hotel.
It is still early in the morning and many shops are still preparing. The first meal in Taiwan is beef noodle. Let’s go. I ordered beef noodle with three kinds of toppings on it. The price is 250 TWD ($8.0). Let’s start with the soup. It is delicious and soaked with beef extract.
Let’s enjoy the toppings as well. First, I have the honeycomb tripe. It has a nice crunchy texture and is delicious. The beef tendon is full of collagen and tasty. The noodles are hard and a little like Japanese udon. It was a very satisfying first meal in Taipei. Thank you very much.
I heard that this shop is also popular for noodles without soup. I would like to try that next time. Today I will stay at a different hotel from yesterday. It is a Marriott hotel called W Taipei. I rarely stay at high-class hotels, so I am very much looking forward to it.
The W Hotel has a flashy image, but it has a surprisingly calm atmosphere. Even the elevator is a sight to behold. It is as if you are being led to another world. Check-in starts at 3:00 p.m., but it is only 1:30 p.m. I just want to leave my luggage for now.
It is still early, but they will let me check in. Today I will stay at the hotel using Marriott points. I usually earn points with my Marriott Bonvoy AMEX Premium Card. I’ve arrived at the room on the 27th floor. Let’s go in. The room is quite spacious.
The view from the window looks promising. The view is unobstructed and wonderful. What a surprise, this partition can be opened and closed. When it is open, it feels spacious and bright. I’m glad it has a bathtub. Everything is stylish. The shower booth looks like this. The shampoos smell absolutely wonderful.
The toilet is made by TOTO, a Japanese brand. The toilet seat opens automatically and has a bidet function. I found a mysterious speaker. What is this? It seems to be able to play various sound effects. White noise Rain Summer Night Brook Ocean Lightning
This is a speaker called a sound spa, which is said to have a healing effect. I’m hungry, so I’m going out. I came to Ximending. This place is as bustling as Harajuku in Japan. I’m going to buy drinks first. I arrived at the drink shop I was looking for.
Here are the top 15 most popular drinks. There are many variations. It is hard to decide which one to order. I decided to order the third most popular drink. Bubble Tea 55 TWD ($1.8). It is very tasty and not too sweet. I came to Huaxi Street Tourist Night Market.
I eat Lu Rou Fan, which has won a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Bib Gourmand refers to a restaurant that provides satisfaction beyond its price. This shop is called “Wang’s Broth”. Stewed Pork Rice also looks delicious! There are also various side dishes and soups.
When I was about to get in line, a local told me how to order. First, secure a seat. Then, write down the seat number on the order form. The white ones are for in-store orders, and the yellow ones are for takeout.
The dishes will be brought to the seat number written on the order form. Delicious-looking dishes are slowly stewed. The feature of this Lu Rou Fan is that it contains shiitake mushrooms. It is also called “Black Gold Lu Rou Fan” because of its shiny black color. Now, let’s eat.
The fatty meat is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The shiitake mushrooms are surprisingly moderate and easy to eat. Next, I came to a famous pepper cake shop in Shilin Night Market. I had always wanted to come here. The dough is pasted in an oven and baked. It’s similar to baking naan bread. Baked pepper cake.
The price is 50TWD ($1.6). It is freshly made and very hot. The filling looks like this. I was surprised at how much pepper was used. The flavor is very distinct, and it lives up to the name “pepper cake”. I came to another pepper cake shop to compare. This is also a famous shop.
I’ve eaten the pepper cake here a few times before. The main shop is located in the night market near Songshan Station and this is a branch. I have also seen a branch near Taipei Station. If you are staying near Taipei Station, you can go to the shop there.
I got it after a 20-minute wait. This pepper cake costs 60TWD ($1.9). Compared to the previous one, the appearance shows a difference in the amount of sesame seeds This pepper cake is not too spicy and are consistently tasty. The taste of the previous one might be more peculiar and addictive.
I returned to the hotel. At night, the hotel is lit up and sparkling. The W Hotel is in its element. This area is lined with fashionable restaurants, bars and clubs. It becomes even more lively at night. I came to the pool on the 10th floor, but no one was there.
The illuminated atmosphere is very beautiful. But it is raining quite a bit. The indoor bar is full. This is a great bar. Let’s go back to the room and relax. The atmosphere changes at night. I found chocolates for turndown service. It’s called “Night Chocolate”.
The relaxing effect of chocolate is said to improve the quality of sleep. Tomorrow, I will go to Jiufen and the night market. Let’s get some rest and prepare for tomorrow. Good morning. I am at the breakfast buffet. First, I order an omelette. I always order ‘Everything!’ for the toppings.
At the Chinese cuisine section, there is a variety of steamed dishes available. This is definitely delicious with black vinegar. Eggs Benedict. The black part is caviar. There’s also Danzai noodles. It is a Tainan specialty with shrimp and minced meat on top. Here is the lineup of dishes. And the view is outstanding here.
Please look at it Taipei 101 is right in front of us. It’s a very nice table. Whenever I come to Hong Kong or Taiwan, I want to eat congee. In the past, I was not so excited about congee. But I learned how delicious congee is in Hong Kong.
Now, I’ve become the guy who goes straight for it at buffets. The Eggs Benedict looked like this. Honestly, I can’t really taste the caviar. But it is very delicious. The danzai noodles at this buffet are especially outstanding. They are overwhelmingly delicious. I’ve become interested in the authentic danzai noodles from Tainan.
Today, I became a man who knows the deliciousness of danzai noodles. I checked out of the W Hotel. I will stay at this hotel today. Staying multiple nights at the W Hotel is financially challenging. The entrance is hard to find, but this is the hotel. It is called ”Morwing Hotel Fairytale”.
It’s cheap at 1,255TWD ($40.0) per night. It’s a 10-minute walk from Taipei Station. Each floor has a fairy tale theme. Since I’ve checked in, I’ll head to my room. I wonder what fairy tale theme it is? It was The Three Little Pigs. The wallpaper is too cute. Now I’m curious about the inside.
It’s quite ordinary. The wallpaper says “Find the stingray!”. The Three Little Pigs are nowhere to be found. And there are so many stingrays. It’s narrow but very clean. I’m glad there’s a small refrigerator. The toilet is also very clean. It’s cheap, but it has all the basic amenities.
The shower booth is nice with a partition from the toilet. Now I’m going to Jiufen by train and bus. It’s my third time going to Jiufen. The ticket machine supports 11 languages. From Taipei Station to Ruifang Station I select the train I want to take. I was able to buy the ticket.
I’ll take the 15:28 train to ensure I arrive before sunset. This train is unreserved seating. I get off at Ruifang Station. Many people get off here. I’ll transfer to a local bus. I don’t check the bus schedule. But there should be plenty of buses to Jiufen.
This is what the station building looks like. It’s small but has a retro taste. Where’s the bus stop? Is it that crowd over there? Maybe. No, it’s not. The bus stop seems to be 300 meters ahead. To the left? Just go straight? I found a map. Let’s see. It is easy to understand.
I was able to get on the bus. I paid with electronic money. The bus fare is only 15 TWD ($0.5). I arrived at Jiufen. About 80 minutes from Taipei Station. Total fare for bus and train: 64 TWD ($2.0) Cheap. Let’s go see the famous scenery. It’s really crowded.
The atmosphere is getting closer to what I expected. The view from here is also amazing. I like the time just before sunset when it’s not completely dark yet. This is a popular photography spot. The terrace seats of the tea house in the back are also famous.
As it’s a popular place, it’s recommended to make a reservation in advance. It’s a popular spot for photography. Nostalgic atmosphere. Now, let’s go back. It seems to be even more crowded. I found a shop with a constant line, so I’ll line up. Something like rice cakes is selling like hotcakes.
I wonder what that is. There are three flavors. Perhaps the one in the middle is popular? Let’s go with the one in the middle. Got it. It’s slightly warm. Since it’s crowded here, let’s find a place to eat. The price is reasonable at 20TWD ($0.6). What’s this?
It’s not as sweet as I imagined. It’s different from what I expected. Let’s go back to Taipei using the direct bus. The bus fare is 75 TWD ($2.4). The fare is almost the same price as taking a bus and a train. Arrived in Taipei in an hour. Now, let’s go eat dinner.
I’ve arrived at a shop at Ningxia Night Market. This is a shop that has been selected for the Michelin Bib Gourmand many times. I’m very excited. It’s raining, but there’s a roof. The seat I was guided to is this counter seat. It’s fun to see the kitchen. The staff is very friendly.
Here are the dishes I ordered. I’m hungry because I didn’t eat lunch today. Chicken Rice 50TWD ($1.6) The visual impact is modest. But how does it taste? It’s very delicious. Stir-fried vegetables also look delicious. Probably water spinach? It’s delicious with just the right amount of garlic.
The Chicken Rice has a tasty sauce, and the chicken is tender and juicy. Next is the extremely popular oyster omelette shop. It’s been a Michelin recommended shop since 2018. Looks delicious. It seems like they’re just about to cook it. Adding the oysters. The quantity of oysters is substantial. Pouring the batter.
Adding eggs, making it colorful. Finally, putting vegetables on top. The right half is finished. Now, let’s go inside. Since it’s cold, I ordered a warm soup. Clam soup 85TWD ($2.7) Garlic Oyster 160TWD ($5.1) Sticky rice with pork 35TWD ($1.1) Oyster omelette 85 TWD ($2.7) Let’s start with the oyster omelette.
Imagining how they were cooking it. The oysters are plump and delicious. The batter is soft, and the sauce is sweet. The clams are large, providing a satisfying bite. The ginger-based soup is also tasty. Garlic oyster, it must be absolutely delicious. The oysters have a rich flavor.
I wanted to have rice, so it was a good idea to order sticky rice. A gentle taste that suits Japanese palates. Oyster on rice! Really delicious! I came to a place near the oyster omelette shop. It’s a sweets shop introduced in a Japanese drama.
The shop serves a dessert called “Douhua,” which is like tofu. What we ordered has arrived. Douhua with 2 toppings 55TWD ($1.75) It comes with red beans and taro dumplings as toppings. This is the taro dumpling. It’s chewy and very delicious! It’s not too sweet, so it’s perfect after Taiwanese foods.
This is the douhua. Wrapped in syrup and very delicious. Douhua alone might get boring, but it’s nice to enjoy the toppings too. There are so many topping variations. There were quite a few Japanese customers. I’m quite full, so let’s go back to the hotel. The next morning, I checked out of the hotel.
Heading to Taoyuan Airport to board the flight to Narita. How was this Taipei trip? I’ll summarize the shop introduced in this video in the description box. If you have any recommended Taiwanese foods, please let me know in the comments. See you again in the next video! Thank you for watching.
