One Bite…The Ultimate Thin Crust PIZZA Tour On Oahu šŸ•

Hey guys welcome to my video. Today’s video isĀ  about pizza. So not about the regular plateĀ Ā  lunches and restaurants I go to. SometimesĀ  you just want a good pizza. So we’re going toĀ Ā  try to cover most of the really good pizzasĀ  on the island of Oahu. So today’s restaurantĀ Ā

Is Brick Fire Tavern. That’s our first restaurantĀ  we’re going to go to. They specialize in NeapolitanĀ Ā  pizzas. So if you’re wondering about parking,Ā  there’s a lot behind it. We’re here early. ItĀ Ā  opens in 10 minutes, but it’s kind of almost fullĀ  because the empty spots are reserved. So there’s onlyĀ Ā

About two spots. Alright we got inside. ThereĀ  was already people in line. It opens at 5:00 pm.Ā Ā  They take a break between lunch and dinner andĀ  there was already a line and it wasn’t even openĀ Ā

Yet. We got here 10 minutes early and so youĀ  might want to make reservations. We did on OpenĀ Ā  Table and it’s a Thursday. It’s not even a Friday.Ā  So it’s pretty popular. It’s got a wood fire ovenĀ Ā

There that was built for them. So supposedlyĀ  two of the owners here went to Italy to study howĀ Ā  to make pizza. So that’s pretty cool. ApologiesĀ  for the audio but it kind of didn’t work for someĀ Ā

Reason on this part of the film. So this is the MammaĀ  Mia. It is a pizza with soppressata, San Marzano tomatoes,Ā Ā  house pancetta, Mountain View Farm sausage, redĀ  onion, a hot pepper medley, and mozzarella cheese.Ā Ā

Upon getting it, it was very floppy and soggy inĀ  the middle that all the toppings fell off. ThereĀ Ā  is nice leoparding on the bottom, but for someĀ  reason the middle was very gummy and raw. And IĀ Ā

Will say all the toppings were fabulous, but theĀ  dough just didn’t do it for me. So if you can seeĀ Ā  what I’m talking about, part of the crust is stuckĀ  to the bottom and it’s all wet and almost like aĀ Ā

Gluey mess. But like I said, the flavors are reallyĀ  there. The toppings are great. I just wish the crustĀ Ā  was cooked a little better. Alright, our secondĀ  location – hopefully you can hear me it’s superĀ Ā

Windy – is in Kapolei, on the west side. It’s Mad Bene.Ā  They’re known for their Italian dishes, but theyĀ Ā  also serve pizza. So let’s try it out. Here it is.Ā  It’s right next to the Regal Theaters. AlrightĀ Ā

So they have a bunch of pizzas, but they also doĀ  pasta as well. We’re getting the NYC Pizza, whichĀ Ā  is basically their pepperoni pizza. They’ve gotĀ  a supreme with sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers,Ā Ā  and all that stuff, a mad garlic pizza, a cabonara,Ā  hot honey one with sopressata and caramelizedĀ Ā

Onions – that sounds good – and your margarita pizzaĀ  with a basil, mozzarella, and tomato. But we just gotĀ Ā  the pepperoni. So we’ll see what it’s about and theĀ  waitress is super cool. So it’s a really nice spotĀ Ā

Here. Plenty of parking right next to Regal TheatersĀ  and their other restaurant that they own DB Grill.Ā  We also did Cino in The Ward Center. TheyĀ  also own that and look for that coming up. IĀ Ā

Went with Terrence to that one and I’ll put the linkĀ  above once it’s released. Okay our pizza came out.Ā Ā  It looks amazing. Let’s check it out. So evenĀ  though it’s just a pepperoni, it’s got basil onĀ Ā  it and some shaved Parmesan. Oh all the stuff fellĀ  off again. First impressions…stuff came off againĀ Ā

Because it’s kind of floppy. There is notĀ  much leoparding on the back, but the crust feelsĀ Ā  very toasty and crispy. Lots of cheese pull soĀ  that’s a good thing. The crust is really crispy.Ā Ā  It’s very thin, which I like. The end of the crustĀ  super crunchy. I like that. They use the smallerĀ Ā

Pepperonis though. I don’t really quite like those.Ā  They’re okay. I like the bigger ones. The cheese isĀ Ā  good and even though it doesn’t have much leoparding,Ā  on it it’s really crispy even though it flopsĀ Ā

And all the stuff falls off – the toppings. Still gotĀ  a nice crunch to it. Not as soggy as the last one.Ā Ā  I really like the spiciness of the pepperoni.Ā  There’s also some fennel seeds on there. I loveĀ Ā

Fennel. The cheese is great and gooey. The crust isĀ  crispy on the edges, on the back – the thick side. AndĀ Ā  all in all a very good pizza. I am actually prettyĀ  happy even though I prefer bigger pepperonis. TheĀ Ā

Basil gives it a good flavor and it’s a prettyĀ  decent pizza. I give it a 8.5. Okay our third stopĀ Ā  is going to be J. Dolan’s, formerly known as JJĀ  Dolan’s. They’ve been here forever. They’re locatedĀ Ā

On Bethel Street and I really enjoy this place. IĀ  used to come here a lot. Alright, so I was goingĀ Ā  to eat in the restaurant, but there is very loudĀ  music and it’s quite dark in there. Although theĀ Ā

Vibe is really cool. I’ve eaten there manyĀ  times and dined in at J Dolan’s. This is theirĀ Ā  pepperoni slice. You can only get pepperoni orĀ  cheese pizza if you’re going by the slice. IfĀ Ā  you’ve tried their other pizzas they’re veryĀ  delicious as well. I enjoy them. So you canĀ Ā

See that it’s pretty much a traditional East CoastĀ  type of New York style or Boston pizza. Very, very, thin and it was made hot to order. Has someĀ  pretty decent leoparding on the back, which isĀ Ā

The markings of the oven. I did have to walkĀ  to my car, but when they handed it to me it wasĀ Ā  piping hot. It’s still hot but not as fresh.Ā  It was probably much crisper when it cameĀ Ā

Straight out because this side’s getting cold. So itĀ  probably would have gotten more stiff. I think soĀ Ā  far I’m not sure if you heard the crunch evenĀ  though it wasn’t as hot as it did come out ofĀ Ā

The oven it still had a little crunch at theĀ  tip of the pizza, which is usually hard to do.Ā Ā  That’s when I told you about the previous placesĀ  where it flops and all the stuff comes off, thisĀ Ā

Is just perfect. It’s one of the better pizzasĀ  in Hawaii in my opinion. I prefer this kind ofĀ Ā  pizza – the New York kind of slice or East CoastĀ  or Boston type of pizza. I don’t really likeĀ Ā

Thick crust pizza, but I’ll eat it, but I likeĀ  the crisp thin crust. And it is just reallyĀ Ā  thin how they make the dough. Even though it’sĀ  a simple pizza, the pepperoni is very nice. It’sĀ Ā  got a nice spice to it. It’s a little greasyĀ  but it’s expected of a pepperoni pizza becauseĀ Ā

All the grease from the meat comes out. TheĀ  seasoning on top of it – there’s a little bit ofĀ Ā  it seems Italian seasoning on the cheese. YouĀ  can see the specks of the herbs in there. So itĀ Ā

Gives it a nice flavor and the cheese is reallyĀ  nice. It has a really good saltiness to it. AndĀ Ā  they’re using quality products and whoever makesĀ  the dough this thin and cooks it well kudos toĀ Ā

Them. Now I’m going to try the end of the crustĀ  here. See how crispy it is because it looks pretty crisp. I think that there’s just enough sauce onĀ  there. Not too much. It’s just not soaking up the crustĀ Ā

And making it soggy. I think it’s really hardĀ  to find really great pizza here in Hawaii.Ā  Some people just are very casual and they’llĀ  just like a pizza no matter what. But I’m kindĀ Ā  of picky and this really suits my taste. It’sĀ  comparable to Regina’s Pizzeria in the NorthĀ Ā

End in Boston which is the best pizza I’ve everĀ  tasted. Not the ones in the mall if you’veĀ Ā  been to Massachusetts. The actual location in theĀ  North End. I think it’s the best pizza. And when youĀ Ā

Crunch into that back crust here the end of theĀ  crust it reminds me of their crust over there.Ā Ā  That crisp, charred, perfectly leopard crust. It’sĀ  delicious. It’s almost like a cracker. And what’sĀ Ā  better is the service there. The girls there thatĀ  took my order super sweet. You know, gave me napkins.Ā Ā

Really nice, let me sit down and wait for my foodĀ  instead of standing because I didn’t want to dine in.Ā Ā  So definitely check out J. Dolan’s. I think so farĀ  this is the best pizza I’ve tasted in HawaiiĀ Ā

Or Oahu anyway. So I give it a 9 out of 10. SoĀ  right down the road, if you go down to Nu’uanu fromĀ Ā  J Dolan, is Pizza Mamo. And they’re kind of like aĀ  trendy spot on Hotel Street serving up freshlyĀ Ā

Made pizzas. They make a Brooklyn / Neapolitan typeĀ  hybrid pizza and also a Detroit. I got both.Ā Ā  As slices, they used to have choices of slices, suchĀ  as pepperoni, their supreme…but now it’s whateverĀ Ā

They offer and they only have two choices a day.Ā  So I didn’t really get to pick. The pizza of theĀ Ā  day for the Brooklyn style was a mushroom pizzaĀ  and I saw the lone Detroit pizza. There was onlyĀ Ā

One slice. I wasn’t really going to get it, but sawĀ  it there lonely so I took it. They do have theĀ Ā  pizzas sitting on the counter so they are cold.Ā  So you can ask to have it reheated, which I didĀ Ā

And let’s check out the bottom of theĀ  crust. Here’s the leoparding. There is someĀ Ā  flop. Not too bad. Pretty good. EverythingĀ  stays on it. Looks like they use a littleĀ Ā  cornmeal on the bottom so it’s easy to slideĀ  in and out of the oven. So let’s try the Shroom

Pizza. Let’s see, I took a menu so we can seeĀ  what’s on it. The Shroom Pizza has mushroomĀ Ā  cream, Wisconsin whole milk mozzarella, PecorinoĀ  cheese, thyme, roasted mushrooms, Fontina cheese,Ā Ā  parsley, and garlic oil. I can definitely taste theĀ  Fontina and the Pecorino. It’s a little bit more sharpĀ Ā

Than just mozzarella. The crust is okay. It’s aĀ  little bit crunchy, but I don’t know this is more for the people that want a thin crust butĀ  a little bit more bounce and chew. WhichĀ Ā  I’m guessing is probably coming from theĀ  Neapolitan side of their hybrid BrooklynĀ Ā

Pizza. But it’s not crisp. It’s more of aĀ  chewy crust. The cheese, for me, isĀ Ā  overpowering. Since I didn’t get a choiceĀ  this would not be my first choice anyway, butĀ Ā  you can definitely taste the mushrooms. It’s veryĀ  strong. So if you’re looking for a nice mushroomĀ Ā

Pizza then you’re definitely going to get theĀ  mushroom flavor. Let’s taste the back end of the crust. That was definitely good. It was nice, light,Ā  and flaky and crunchy. So that’s a nice dough. IĀ Ā

Think the middle part where the pointy part ofĀ  the pie is got a little soggy. So it’s not asĀ Ā  crisp but definitely a great crust at the end.Ā  Like I said, if you’re being cheap like me andĀ Ā

You’re just getting a slice, you don’t really getĀ  to get a choice. It’s just whatever is offeredĀ Ā  for the day, which was the Shroom pizza. So theĀ  Detroit Pizza of the day is a sausage and pesto.Ā Ā

And it’s a square type pizza that’s very thickĀ  and bready and you can see that they top it withĀ Ā  some pesto and some marinara sauce and it’sĀ  quite thick and bready. Alright so here goes nothing. It’s interesting because he did heat itĀ  up, but then he put the pesto and the marinaraĀ Ā

Over it which is cold. So interesting contrast ofĀ  temperatures. The marinara is very delicious.Ā Ā  The pesto is as well. I didn’t get much sausageĀ  or any I don’t know…meat. Let’s try again. YeahĀ Ā  I’m not getting meat. I’m not getting meat. I don’tĀ  know where the sausage is. Took like three bites.Ā Ā

It’s definitely cheesy here. Maybe I’ll getĀ  some meat. I see some and it’s very tiny. So, superĀ Ā  chang on the meat. I’m not sure if you can seeĀ  that, but it’s just those tiny little crumbs ofĀ Ā

Meat on there. So I will taste some. That’s howĀ  tiny it is. Tastes good, but it’s so tiny it’sĀ Ā  like minuscule. Tastes like fennel sausage.Ā  There’s this nice crust here on the end of theĀ Ā  burnt cheese. That’s nice. Not my thing though. IĀ  wouldn’t say it’s my favorite, but that’s justĀ Ā

A personal preference. I don’t really care forĀ  too bready crusts, but if you’re into like aĀ Ā  French bread pizza and you like that kind ofĀ  thick crust then you’ll definitely like thatĀ Ā  Detroit style pizza which is known for thatĀ  bready crust. I would say the Shroom Pizza…IĀ Ā

Give it a six. It wasn’t that impressive and theĀ  Detroit pizza for me personally I’d give it aĀ Ā  five. And another thing that kind of makes theĀ  experience pretty crappy is the service wasĀ Ā  terrible. The guy had a freaking attitude inĀ  the front. He even had an attitude with theĀ Ā

Girl making the pizza. You could see him talkingĀ  to her. A lot of eye rolling at me like youĀ Ā  didn’t want to be there and like you’re freakingĀ  stupid. Looked at you…like that kind of look likeĀ Ā  looking at you like you’re dumb. So I wouldn’tĀ  go back there again to patronize them. MaybeĀ Ā

If the food was exceptionally good I wouldĀ  deal with it, but if you don’t like that kind ofĀ Ā  attitude, which reminds me of the East Coast,Ā  then you probably wouldn’t like their service.Ā Ā  So off to the next place. Alright we’reĀ  here at Ili’Ili Cash and Carry. I did a videoĀ Ā

On them before. There’s a pretty big parking lotĀ  here. So you can get parking. It’s off of BeretaniaĀ Ā  Street and they do great pizza slices. I didĀ  a video and I’ll put the link above from before.

Alright so we’re here at Ili’Ili Cash andĀ  Carry like I said. Got my pizza. So they sellĀ Ā  it by the slice if you don’t want to pay tooĀ  much. I will say their menu quite expensive. IfĀ Ā

You get a whole pizza it’s like $30 and 20 highĀ  20s / $28 for a pie, which is kind of expensive. SoĀ Ā  if you want a slice just for lunch come on downĀ  here and they have all kind of different slices.Ā Ā

I usually just go for pepperoni I’m prettyĀ  simple, but they had all kinds. They even had aĀ Ā  oxtail pizza today. So it’s not what you think.Ā  It’s not on the bone. They peel the oxtail offĀ Ā  and they put it on the pizza. But little tooĀ  pricey for me. That one was the pricierĀ Ā

One. I think it was $12.50 a slice. So I just wentĀ  with the simple sausage and onions. They also haveĀ Ā  basil pizza and eggplant and stuff like that ifĀ  you don’t eat meat. This one’s a little different.Ā Ā

It’s more like a square pizza because the two sidesĀ  have the thick ends of the crust. And let’sĀ Ā  look at the bottom. Nice char there. So whenĀ  you get your slices, you can see it through theĀ Ā

Little cabinet window and they’re not hot.Ā  But he will heat it up for you when you pickĀ Ā  your slice. So let’s dig into it. I’m going toĀ  cut it in half so I can actually get into the middle. Here we go.

Mmm that’s good. The sausage has so much flavor. AlsoĀ  got that Italian sausage fennel taste. The crunchĀ Ā  of the onion – it’s not raw, but it’s cooked andĀ  caramelized, but still has a little crunch. TheĀ Ā  sauce is delicious. It’s not acidic. It’s not tooĀ  sweet. It’s just right. Although, even though it’sĀ Ā

Thin on the bottom, it’s a little…it got a littleĀ  soggy. Probably from sitting in the window – you knowĀ Ā  the display case. But if it was crispy on theĀ  bottom that would be great, but it’s a littleĀ Ā  bit gummy and doughy, but nothing too bad whereĀ  I would say it’s terrible. It’s pleasantĀ Ā

But I think it would be a 10 rating if thisĀ  was crispy. So yeah a little bit different.Ā Ā  Perhaps when you order by the slice sinceĀ  it’s already pre-made and has been sittingĀ Ā  there for a while but all in all the cheese isĀ  delicious, the sausage is wonderful, very good andĀ Ā

Delicious and the onions just compliment it.Ā  Let’s try the end piece here and see how it tastes. That’s crispy and delicious. So I wouldĀ  assume yeah if you got your whole pie the bottomĀ Ā  would be just as crispy as the ends has aĀ  nice cracker feel to it. I like that. IĀ Ā

Prefer that crunch and that lightness. Look atĀ  all those air pockets in there. But I will sayĀ Ā  the taste of the dough is a little bit differentĀ  for me. It’s not bad, but if I were to compare itĀ Ā

To another pizza I like, I would prefer thatĀ  taste of the dough. But all in all, an excellentĀ Ā  pizza. What’s really great about this place tooĀ  is a service. The gentleman at the counter wasĀ Ā  very wonderful and smiley and pleasant and that isĀ  so much more refreshing from yesterday’s experienceĀ Ā

At Pizza Mamo. So kudos to that server. ThankĀ  you for being friendly. You don’t have to kissĀ Ā  anyone’s ass doing service. Just be a niceĀ  human being and be pleasant. You don’t even haveĀ Ā  to be super cheery. I mean just be a nice person.Ā  that’s all a customer asks for. Also there isĀ Ā

Plenty of parking here because when you’re onĀ  Beretania Street, especially in town, it’s hardĀ Ā  to find parking. But they have their own lot andĀ  it’s a lot of stalls so there’s no problem withĀ Ā  just coming in getting a slice. They heat it upĀ  really fast and getting out of there within 10Ā Ā

Minutes. I would give Ili’Ili Cash and Carry’s pizzaĀ  an 8.5. Okay our next location is Boston’s PizzaĀ Ā  in Aiea. They have a few other locations. I’m notĀ  sure if it’s a franchise because there’s also oneĀ Ā  in Kaimuki and such like that. There usedĀ  to be more locations but as time went onĀ Ā

Some of them closed down. They’ve been aroundĀ  since 1994. They call it Boston’s North EndĀ Ā  Pizza and as you know, if you’ve been following me,Ā  I lived in Massachusetts for a while and actuallyĀ Ā

Went to the North End last March. So let’sĀ  see if it lives up to the hype. I will say I haveĀ Ā  tried it before. I think I’ve had it twice andĀ  it was just okay. So let’s see if they can redeemĀ Ā

Themselves. And I don’t remember it being theĀ  same as pizza that you actually can get fromĀ Ā  the North End. Okay so I got the pepperoni slices.Ā  You can get all kinds. They have Supreme, they gotĀ Ā  pepperoni and sausage, spinach and garlic, all kindsĀ  of stuff. But I’m pretty much just trying to stickĀ Ā

To pepperoni if they do have it. If they don’t,Ā  such as the last place, I’ll do a sausage or aĀ Ā  different meat. But here’s the pepperoni. When youĀ  ask for a slice here, they give you two. So you’reĀ Ā

Going to get two no matter what. I don’tĀ  know why they do that, but that’s quite generousĀ Ā  of them. I guess they could probably just give youĀ  one slice for like $3 or like $4 like J Dolan’sĀ Ā

Instead of charging you the price that theyĀ  charge you. But anyhoo, this is the pizza. HowĀ Ā  thin it is. Not that thin compared to the piesĀ  I’ve had in the east coast. There’s the back.Ā Ā  Let’s see about the leoparding. Not too much,Ā  but there’s some browning on the bottom. It’sĀ Ā

Got some cornmeal on there too. So I guess it’sĀ  easier to slide in and out of the oven. When youĀ Ā  ask for a slice, they’re already pre-made, butĀ  they reheat it for you. So it’s nice and piping hot. It’s okay…it doesn’t…it’s not terrible,Ā  but it definitely does not taste like pizzaĀ Ā

From Boston or New York for that matter. TheĀ  marinara or the…if you want to call it aĀ Ā  pizza sauce, whatever you’re going to call it.Ā  The tomato sauce is super sour for my liking.Ā Ā  It almost tastes straight out of the tomatoĀ  Hunt’s can. Yeah there’s no sweetness to itĀ Ā

Either to balance it out, but I don’t like tooĀ  sweet either. But it’s really really acidic andĀ Ā  sour. I like how the crust crunches when youĀ  bite into it. Didn’t have too much flop, youĀ Ā  know, but it doesn’t taste like…For my preferenceĀ  again I like East Coast Pizza. It doesn’t taste likeĀ Ā

That. So if you’re looking for something in theĀ  middle of it – of East Coast Pizza and just kindĀ Ā  of like a regular pizza but not too thickĀ  you’d like it. But there’s something aboutĀ Ā

The dough that I remember that I didn’t reallyĀ  care for. The taste to me was a little off andĀ Ā  I don’t know if it’s because the tomato sauce is soĀ  sour it’s just throwing everything off. It’sĀ Ā  not too greasy though, at least, considering it’sĀ  pepperoni. It always leeches out a lot of grease.Ā Ā

The pepperoni is good. It got really crispedĀ  up in the oven. So you’ve got some crunchy bits but I also feel like they don’t put muchĀ  cheese on here. Like there’s very little cheese andĀ Ā

Just a lot of sauce. Alright final thing is I’mĀ  going to taste the end of the crust. The ends areĀ Ā  pretty good. They’re pretty crispy and crunchy asĀ  you could hear and you know flaky like I like it.Ā Ā

Almost like that cracker consistency. All in all aĀ  pretty good pizza but it’s just kind of mid for me.Ā Ā  It’s just mediocre. I would give it a 5.5 out of 10.Ā  Alright so I went to a place that’s fairly newĀ Ā

It’s called Boconccino. It’s off of Kawaiahaā€˜o Street –Ā  more on the Ward Avenue side. They make RomanĀ Ā  pizzas and if you see I took a bite out of itĀ  because I was filming and then the card gotĀ Ā

I don’t know what do you call it corrupted. So IĀ  have to redo this again. So this is the pizzaĀ Ā  and it’s a Roman style pizza. I’ve never had itĀ  before and basically I got the porcini mushroomĀ Ā

With Italian sausage and if you see the whiteĀ  stuff on there that’s the cheese. And it’s homemadeĀ Ā  by the chef himself or the owner he makes thisĀ  type of cheese. I’m not going to butcher the name.Ā Ā

I’ll put it on the bottom and I’ll also put theĀ  pizza’s name on the bottom because I’m going toĀ Ā  butcher that too. But basically this is similar toĀ  a mozzarella, but not quite. He also makes homemadeĀ Ā

Mozzarella cheeses and if you go inside the storeĀ  it’s almost like a little Italian Shop. It’s gotĀ Ā  salamis and meats and cold cuts, olive oils, allĀ  kinds of things, cakes, and he also sells both ofĀ Ā  those cheeses that he makes there. So if you’reĀ  looking for a good quality cheese go ahead andĀ Ā

Try it. I’ve never had had a Roman pizza before. ItĀ  is an oval shape so it’s cut a little different.Ā Ā  But it doesn’t really have a flop. It’s prettyĀ  hard on the bottom, which is a good sign for me.Ā Ā

My preference. And good leoparding on the bottom,Ā  which is the char. Taking a taste again. The cheeseĀ Ā  is elastic like in a good way. It’s just thatĀ  like Buffalo mozzarella feel. Even though it’sĀ Ā  not mozzarella it has that same feel – that cheeseĀ  pull. It has a fresh milky taste. Really nice. TheĀ Ā

Tomato sauce isn’t too sour or acidic yet not tooĀ  sweet and artificial with sugar. Just right. TheĀ Ā  mushrooms…I don’t know if they’re canned, fresh,Ā  or reconstituted from being dried, but they’reĀ Ā  very chewy and meaty in taste. So it gives youĀ  kind of that meat feel, but it’s I guess healthy.Ā Ā

The only downside I see of this, is the ItalianĀ  sausage I see a lot of fennel sprinkled on it butĀ Ā  it just doesn’t have much flavor to me. I wouldĀ  say Ili’Ili Cash and Carry’s sausage – whateverĀ Ā

They’re using is amazing in flavor. This is veryĀ  dull and bland. The dough is crispy, yet this is aĀ Ā  little bit thicker than a regular New York or EastĀ  Coast pizza. About a few millimeters bigger, but not tooĀ Ā

Thick like a Pizza Hut type dough. And it’s prettyĀ  good. It’s pretty interesting and I like everythingĀ Ā  combined. It’s a very nice pie. I would howeverĀ  suggest eating this right away while it’s hotĀ Ā

Because you want that melty elastic cheese on there.Ā  I’m going to try the back side of the end of the crust. Super nice and crunchy and flaky. That’sĀ  what I prefer. I like that crunchy, crackeryĀ

Dough. Except I don’t want want it too dry, whichĀ  it’s not. It still has a perfect balance of stillĀ Ā  being dough-like but also being crispy. I likeĀ  the char from the oven. It’s pretty good. I likeĀ Ā  it. I’ve never had a Roman pizza, like IĀ  said and it’s very enjoyable. All in allĀ Ā

A very good pizza. Very surprised and very…Ā  you know it’s coming from an Italian person (the owner)Ā Ā  so it’s pretty authentic and delicious to meĀ  to suit my taste and I would give it an 8.75.Ā Ā  Alright we’re here in downtown HonoluluĀ  and we’re trying a place that my friendĀ Ā

Said I have to absolutely try if I love J.Ā  Dolan’s because it’s the former partner ofĀ Ā  JJ Dolan when it used to be JJ Dolan. They had aĀ  falling out and he now owns the Black Shamrock.Ā Ā  It is across from Murphy’s. So it used toĀ  be O’Toole’s.

So let’s go check out their pizza. I love J. Dolan it’s the top one so far.Ā  So let’s see if it’s any better or similar. Alright so I got my pizza. It is aĀ  pepperoni. They’ve got other fancy ones likeĀ Ā

Kalua pig and cabbage. That’s interestingĀ  or maybe that’s not pizza. I don’t know.Ā Ā  It says it’s all pizza. So it’s pretty muchĀ  all Pizza on the menu. Nothing else. So yeahĀ Ā  that’s pretty neat. They have a Jersey tomatoĀ  pie. So these are Jersey pies. So I’m excitedĀ Ā

To try them. Can’t go wrong with a Black and Tan.Ā  It’s an Irish bar serving Jersey pizza. Alright we got our pizza and it looks amazing.Ā  We were actually served by the owner rightĀ Ā  out of the kitchen. Look at how thin thisĀ  is. I have a good feeling about this one

Man. Man that is some good pie. If you like EastĀ  Coast pies – it’s a Jersey pie – but you like BostonĀ Ā  pies, New York slices, this is it. Yes! AlrightĀ  hopefully you can hear me because the music’s reallyĀ Ā

Loud and I hope I don’t get copyrighted, but let’sĀ  try the end crust. Man, it’s cheesy. The pepperoni isĀ Ā  delicious. Look at all the Italian seasonings onĀ  there. Super crunchy, so thin, amazing. Let me grabĀ Ā

Another one. It has a flop, has got nice leoparding,Ā  but it’s foldable. Look at that. So I’m going toĀ Ā  give it a David Portnoy 9.2. The highest score soĀ  far. Hopefully we’ll find something else better. WhoĀ Ā

Knows? Alright we’re going to try a place calledĀ  Uncle’s New York Deli and Pizza. It’s across fromĀ Ā  Scofield Barracks. Right next to Kemo’o Pub.Ā  This is their pizza. You get two slices of this, but I don’t want to take it out. It’s quite greasyĀ  looking and it’s already leaking through the bag.Ā Ā

But two slices of this. This is freaking huge!Ā  So it does flop a lot. It’s freshly made for youĀ Ā  and heated up. Even though it’s floppy, niceĀ  crunch, some pretty good leoparding on the back,Ā Ā  the pepperonis crisped up really nice. So it hasĀ  that crunch sometimes, but not burnt. The cheeseĀ Ā

Is good. So hard because the dough is fabulous.Ā  It’s what I’m looking for in a East Coast typeĀ Ā  pizza or my style that I prefer. But the onlyĀ  thing that makes it not so good is the sauce isĀ Ā

Super sour. It’s a very strong tomato sauce flavor.Ā  Almost like Boston’s. Just like out of the tomatoĀ Ā  sauce can. No seasoning, no Italian seasoning, justĀ  really off-putting. So it doesn’t totally makeĀ Ā  the pizza terrible. The cheese and pepperoni areĀ  great. The dough makes it top notch. So I’ll give itĀ Ā

A 8.4. I think that’s a fair score. A little underĀ  Ili’Ili Cash and Carry and Bocconcino becauseĀ Ā  everything was balanced in that. But yeah ifĀ  you’re looking for something similar, just theĀ Ā

Sauce is just a tad off, but the dough is fabulous.Ā  You can try this place out. It’s not bad. 8.4 is notĀ Ā  a bad score at all. Alright so if you’re saying,Ā  “Misty you’re in the area of Schofield, why didn’tĀ Ā

You do Oldtown Pizzeria in Wahiawa?” Well I am here. IĀ  came here. I made a loop around because it’s close. I wasĀ Ā  actually excited. They were on my list for a while.Ā  They’re super nice. Nothing wrong with that, butĀ Ā

Kind of strange it doesn’t make sense to me. ButĀ  she explained there’s no slices if they’re not busy. I thought theyĀ Ā  were sold out because a lot of Army folks comeĀ  here for lunch and it’s after lunch hours. TheyĀ Ā

Said they would make one for me – a pizza, but itĀ  would take 20 minutes. I don’t have that kind ofĀ Ā  time. I got to go. And then the strange thingĀ  she said if you come back next Monday just letĀ Ā

Me know and I’ll make it, which is very sweet ofĀ  her, but it’s Monday. (?) So I have to wait a week? AndĀ Ā  I don’t have that kind of time. I’m making videosĀ  as you know. So nothing wrong with that. I’m justĀ Ā

Addressing if you’re wondering why didn’t you hitĀ  that pizza place that’s the reason. Alright soĀ Ā  this is our final stop. Very long video. Apologies.Ā  If you’re not interested you probably wouldn’tĀ Ā  have made it this far anyway, but if you’re reallyĀ  into pizza and looking for a great pizza hopefullyĀ Ā

This video helps you. If you’re wondering whyĀ  didn’t I co cover Girabaldi’s Little G’s, weĀ Ā  did a video there a long time ago when they firstĀ  opened. I’m going to put the link above. The reasonĀ Ā

I didn’t go there – I wanted to include him into theĀ  pizza episode -but he he is closed all FebruaryĀ Ā  because they are renovating his shop and hopefullyĀ  he comes back bigger and brand new. So goĀ Ā

Check out their pizza. I do like their pizza and heĀ  makes some pretty creative ones and he’s from NewĀ Ā  York as well. So today our last stop is in HawaiiĀ  Kai. It’s called Repetti’s and it is in the shoppingĀ Ā

Center with Safeway and Longs and McDonald’s. SoĀ  it’s after the one with Costco on Keahole Street.Ā Ā  They are a restaurant. I read on their website –Ā  I don’t know how true it is or what not – butĀ Ā

This is from their website that they had a shop, aĀ  pizza shop on Prison Street in Lahaina. And I guess…Ā Ā  I’m assuming it’s gone and now they opened upĀ  an Italian restaurant. Same owners or somethingĀ Ā  like that here in Hawaii Kai. It’s an ItalianĀ  restaurant where you can sit down enjoy some pastaĀ Ā

And good eats inside or outside by the marina, butĀ  they do do pizza and they do do slices all dayĀ Ā  she said. I called them and I’m hoping thisĀ  is good. Customer service was very nice. Nice guyĀ Ā

Up front, very patient, came out within 5 minutes. The slices are pretty affordable. This is it.Ā Ā  It was wrapped up in foil to keep it hot. VeryĀ  nicely put together for takeout anyway.Ā Ā  So yeah this is interesting…it kind of looksĀ  like frozen pizza off hand with that cheese, butĀ Ā

You never know. I’m not going to judge it off ofĀ  looks. Smells good. It seems you got your regularĀ Ā  cheese that usually comes with the pizza, looksĀ  like what it’s supposed to I guess. And thenĀ Ā  you got some more mozzarella over here, andĀ  the pepperoni looks interesting. Kind of looksĀ Ā

Like…just to be honest not to knock it till IĀ  taste it, the Hormel kind you get from the storeĀ Ā  to make your own pizza at home. The crust thoughĀ  looks really nice. Alright let’s check out theĀ Ā  undercarriage so my friend Frank says. So it’sĀ  there there’s a little bit of leoparding, but notĀ Ā

Much. I mean it’s just a little bit of darkĀ  spots little bit there. Some flop, but it isĀ Ā  foldable. You can hear the crunch. Really crispy.Ā  Same thing, what I’m looking for. Crispy cracker-Ā Ā

Like, but the inside of the crust is still soft.Ā  It’s not like a dry mess. It still has chew to it. This is…I’m surprised. I thought the lastĀ  one was going to just suck. I’m going toĀ Ā

Give it…it’s one of the top ones, but it stillĀ  does not beat my top one Black Shamrock. ThatĀ Ā  was the best I’ve tasted here on this island.Ā  So if I gave Bocconicino an 8.75, I’m going to giveĀ Ā

It an 8.9. That’s how good this is. So if you’reĀ  in the Hawaii Kai area and you’re looking forĀ Ā  an East Coast thin crust pizza similar to a NewĀ  York style or a Jersey pizza or a Boston PizzaĀ Ā

This is it. They also have cheese pizza. So it’s…Ā  I think he said it’s $2 or I forgot what heĀ Ā  said. So they sell it as a cheese pizza slice andĀ  you can add toppings to it for $2. So I added justĀ Ā

One topping and that was the pepperoni but theĀ  more you add the more expensive it’s goingĀ Ā  to be. You can also add some toppings thatĀ  are like extra fancy like Riccotta and stuff likeĀ Ā  that. So all in all a pretty good pie. So thatĀ  was pretty much my pizza compilation. If you’reĀ Ā

Wondering and complaining about “You could goĀ  to Costco or Sam’s Club for cheaper or Pizza HutĀ Ā  or whatever.” That is not about that. TheyĀ  all have their own purpose if you’re looking forĀ Ā  a cheap meal. But this is actually looking for aĀ  good East Coast type pizza. I threw that DetroitĀ Ā

In there because it looked lonely and I justĀ  ordered it, but that was terrible anyway. SoĀ Ā  not my style, but if you did try something onĀ  this list and you enjoyed it leave a comment.Ā Ā

If I did not like it and you enjoyed it, leave yourĀ  comment. I’d like to hear your thoughts. AllĀ Ā  of our tastes are subjective. So it’s interestingĀ  to hear different people’s opinions. And hopefullyĀ Ā  if you got this far, thank you so much forĀ  actually sticking around and watching it andĀ Ā

Hopefully this helps you if you’re looking forĀ  a really good pizza that’s kind of like a NewĀ Ā  Jersey, New York, or more Boston style thinĀ  crust. Aactually some of these pizza slicesĀ Ā  are not very expensive. Like J. Dolan was aroundĀ  four bucks I believe. This one is three or two.Ā Ā

I’ll put the prices on there. The actual price.Ā  so you can see and then $2 for toppings. So youĀ Ā  know you can find some pretty inexpensive pizzaĀ  slices. It’s not that expensive to have a littleĀ Ā  bit more of a gourmet crust and cheeses andĀ  etc. So thank you for watching this very longĀ Ā

Video and to everybody that always watches andĀ  comments I really appreciate you. Like thisĀ Ā  if you liked it and it was helpful, subscribe ifĀ  you’re new, and I’ll see you again on another foodĀ Ā  adventure. Take care everybody, have a wonderfulĀ  weekend and I’ll see you next time. Peace out. šŸ•šŸŒŗšŸŒˆāœŒšŸ¤™

This was a quest for the best East Coast style pizza (NY, NJ, Boston) on the island of Oahu. This compilation took three weeks to finish. Hope it is helpful if you are craving some great thin sliced pizza. If you know of a place here that sells New Haven Apizza, then I’m all over it! I haven’t found that here yet.

If you’re wondering why I didn’t go to other places like Big Kahuna’s, Magoo’s, Amina’s, etc…that is not the pizza I was looking for and their crust and style is in a whole ‘nother category.

  1. If you're wondering why I didn't go to other places like Big Kahuna's, Magoo's, Amina's, etc…that is not the pizza I was looking for and their crust and style is in a whole 'nother category. And now I will not eat pizza for another year!

  2. Oh yea, Pizza out east is the best. I miss the Pizza from the NYC area when I lived there many moons ago. when I was in Switzerland last year my coworkers found a killer Pizzeria in Lausanne. I think that pizza was baked in a wood or coal fired oven, I remember the crust was charred a little and was super crispy.

  3. I loved this video! Always looking for a good pizza and I really love your comments! Chang on the sausage. You don’t need to kiss anyone’s butt. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ it’s like hearing something I would say!!!

  4. I’m not a pizza aficionado by any means, but I do prefer thin crust pizza with proper charring on the underside. That Roman style pizza looked amazing with the visible charring, crispy bits all around. I would put that on my list of restaurants to try next time I’m on Oahu.

  5. Awesome Oahu pizza tour! Black Shamrock Tavern looked legit. I heard the secret to good pizza is the water. Putting Regina's on my bucket list. šŸ•

  6. Aloha Misty!! We definitely love thin crust pizza the best and East Coast pizza spots make it great. It was great to see all these spots and how each one varied from one another. Love the term ā€œleopardingā€ because it describes the under carriage of the dough perfectly. The infamous list grew bc we’ve got to try out J Dolan’s and Black Shamrock now!! Great job touring sooooo many spots and mahalo as always for taking us along!! Hopefully we can coordinate a trip to the East Coast for authentic pizza one day!! šŸ¤™šŸ½

  7. This was quite the sacrifice to eat pizza at so many places. It is nice to see a pizza review so others can eliminate where they'd like to get a particular style of pizza. The NY thin and foldable pizza with salami and pepperoni, olive oil and fresh basil with fresh mozzarella and grated regiano is the win-win for me. We ate good pizza in NJ and Italian Pizzeria in Germany. It's really nice you could find comparable NY style pizzerias on Oahu. Mahalo for doing the taste test for all of us, Misty. Which did Aiden like the best?

  8. You are fantastic for doing this! Thank you soo much, we've been trying to find a good pie here on Oahu too. Yeah that Detroit pizza place was such a disappointment, can't believe that place is still open šŸ˜‚
    Thanks again!ā¤ā¤ā¤

  9. Misty, my friend, I am feeling your pain through this one. I can see you're so over this pizza tour. Mahalo for suffering through it and letting us know where NOT to go. šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‰šŸ˜”šŸ¤šŸ˜„

  10. thanks for eating all that pizza my friend bought a thin crust from ceasar pizza the pizza had a good flavor n was tasty

  11. Thanks for doing all this research for all of your followers. I have watched all your videos since the beginning and I think this is your best one yet! You are always so positive with every eatery you review so when you unloaded on Pizza Mamo, I really sat up and listened. Shame on them for giving you a bad customer experience. I will definitely not be getting any pizzas from them. On the positive side, I will check out J. Dolan's, Black Shamrock Tavern and 'ili'ili Cash and Carry based on your scores. Keep up the good work!

  12. G’day Misty
ā€œAnd now I will not eat pizza for another yearā€ Love it 🤣
    Cheers Rod šŸ¤™

  13. OMG….I love a good crunch! Making me ono for pizza now. šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹.
Thanks for taking us along on the šŸ•šŸ•šŸ• tour šŸ¤™šŸ¼šŸ¤™šŸ¼šŸ¤™šŸ¼

  14. I like that you’re very honest about the taste of the foods and the kind of service you’ve experienced.

  15. My favorite is the broccolini slice from Ili'Ili along with their garlic cheese balls. I've had 2 pinsas from Bocconcino. One same as you had, perfect. The other was soggy. Not great but I loved the burrata. Pizza Mamo was just ok and service sucked so I'm not going back. I had 2 slices at J. Dolan's in Kahala. My first few bites were good and hot but they keep the restaurant so cold that the slices went cold. Not nearly as good as pizza straight from the fridge. Maybe I'll try their downtown location. Speaking of downtown, I must try Black Shamrock Tavern. You lit up on that one! Repetti's as well. Thanks for exposing me to more of my favorite food!

  16. I noticed Black Shamrock pizza was eaten at the restaurant and it came out of the oven pippin' hot, whereas the rest was consumed in the car, which in my opinion may have affected the quality of the pizza. My go to pizza is litter ceasars' pan pepperoni lunch combo or the italian bread pizza in Wahiawa. The Wahiawa location is always consistent, other locations are always hit-and-miss. Thank you for your hard work in making this video for your followers. Kudos!

  17. If Agostino's opens up again, his pizza was easily by far the best I ever had in my life, and once I had his pizza, I couldn't eat any other pizza here. It was as good as this place in NYC in the theatre district (they moved and I haven't found their new location), which I found out from Agostino is his cousin's place. No wonder they were pretty much the same and the best I've ever eaten.

  18. Thanks for the pizza tour in Honolulu. As another viewer stated, it’s the water. It seemed more or a chore than an enjoyment making this pizza video…..lol

  19. Love your honest reviews. I watch to see your facial reactions after the first bite. Thanks

  20. I think your reviews were spot on, and that's from a basic perspective of what should be expected. Seeing those wet, soggy pizzas reminded me of "National Lampoons vacation" where the dog made shishi on the sandwiches🤐😬

  21. In the Central Valley of California, near Fresno, we have the Me N Ed's Pizza chain. For the longest time, the one in my hometown was the best one, and still is in my opinion. Now that Valentino's has shut down there really isn't strong competition against them.

  22. Great video, Misty. You hit many of our favorites! We stopped at Black Shamrock Tavern today and got the Double ā€˜Roni Pie which was great! I still prefer ili ili Cash & Carry and J Dolans over BST but very happy to have discovered them. THANK YOU! Sorry you had a bad experience at Pizza Mamo. We’ve had good experiences there and like their Potato Pizza for an interesting diversion from the traditional.

  23. Hey Misty, great video! I agree, J Dolan’s pizza is soooo good! Their chicken is pretty good too!

  24. Uncle's NY Deli, Pizza, next to Kemoo Farms used to be a Boston's Pizza. New owners took over around 2016.

  25. Aloha Misty: Thank you for taking us for a culinary tour of pizza on Oahu. It is nice to see the variety of good pizza in our hometown. I never know about this culinary experience until your vlog. After you attended school on the East Coast, I am glad that you can enjoy a good pizza. I still think of Pizza Hut for my pizza-experience in Honolulu, because my friends, and I, used to go for their pizza buffet when we went for lunch — nothing special but it was filling. Looking forward to your next great vlog. Best wishes to you, friends and your family! Much šŸ¤™, fellow 🐯! 🧧!
