Welcome to this video with CC subtitles or automatic translation! Hello, I’m Duck, welcome to my channel! The movie was shot in January 2024 in Shaxi Ancient Town(ๆฒ™ๆบชๅค้Žฎ), Yunnan Province. I’m currently on Sidon Street(ๅฏบ็™ป่ก—). Shaxi Ancient Town is located in Yunnan Province and is recognized as one of the strongholds of Bai(็™ฝๆ—) culture

Shaxi is also part of the ancient Tea Horse Road(่Œถ้ฆฌๅค้“) This ancient town has preserved a long history and exudes a strong flavor of ancient style. The Bai people are the main inhabitants of Shaxi Ancient Town, and their unique culture and traditional crafts are fully displayed here.

Strolling along the stone road, you will feel the strong flavor of the Bai ethnic group. Ancient architecture, fine embroidery and colorful festivals make this ancient town even more fascinating Shaxi Ancient Town is also connected to a part of the old Tea Horse Road.

This ancient trade route was once a major trade route between China, India and Southeast Asia. Here, you can feel the footprints of ancient merchants and explore the mysterious history of the Tea Horse Road.

Whether you want to enjoy the culture of the Bai people, explore the ancient Tea Horse Road or savor the local cuisine Shaxi Ancient Town is a place full of charm and stories. When you come here, you will travel through time and space to experience the deep historical heritage of Yunnan.

I Walked to Square Street(ๅ››ๆ–น่ก—) This is East Village Gate(ๆฑๅฏจ้–€). I’m currently at the Yujin Bridge(็މๆดฅๆฉ‹). This is South Guzong Lane(ๅ—ๅคๅฎ—ๅทท). I went to North Guzong Lane(ๅŒ—ๅคๅฎ—ๅทท). A Night Tour of Shaxi Ancient Town

Shaxi Ancient Town (ๆฒ™ๆบชๅค้•‡), located in Jianchuan County, Dali, Yunnan, is a renowned historical site that once served as a vital trading hub on the Tea Horse Caravan Road. This town, nestled roughly halfway between Dali and Lijiang, offers a unique glimpse into China’s rich history and culture. Key attractions include the 700-year-old theatre (ๅฏบ็™ปๆˆๅฐ), the scenic Yujin Bridge (็މๆดฅๆกฅ), the 600-year-old Xingjiao Temple (ๅ…ดๆ•™ๅฏบ), the magnificent Ouyang Courtyard (ๆฌง้˜ณๅคง้™ข), and the vibrant Friday market (ๆ˜ŸๆœŸไบ”ๅธ‚้›†), providing a comprehensive experience of ancient Chinese life.

Shaxi was established around 700 AD during the Tang Dynasty as a bustling trade point along the Tea Horse Road, facilitating extensive commerce in tea and horses between China’s tea-growing regions and areas rich in horses, such as Tibet and India. Despite the decline of trade along the Tea Horse Road, Shaxi’s Friday Market continues to thrive, attracting visitors worldwide.

The Tea Horse Road (่Œถ้ฉฌๅค้“) itself is a significant part of the region’s history, symbolizing the large-scale trade that once flourished between Chinese dynasties and Tibet. Today, it draws people not for trade but to explore the culture and historical architecture of the area.

Visitors to Shaxi can enjoy various activities, such as strolling along Sideng Street (ๅฏบ็™ป่ก—), attending the vibrant Friday Market, and participating in traditional festivals like the Taizihui Holiday (ๅคชๅญไผš) and Torch Festival (็ซๆŠŠ่Š‚). Nearby attractions include Shibao Mountain (็Ÿณๅฎๅฑฑ), known for its Danxia landform, Buddhist Grottoes, and Golden Monkeys.

Shaxi’s location between Lijiang and Dali makes it an ideal stopover for travelers exploring Yunnan. Despite its remote setting, the town’s rich cultural heritage and well-preserved historical sites make it a must-visit destination for those interested in China’s ancient trade routes and minority cultures.

  1. Dear Duck, Thank you for this amazing walk. A stunning open-air museum. I noticed a sign on one of the shops "Wood and Stone" and my heart trembled) Because I watched this video with the thought of how much beautiful old carved wood and ancient stones there are. I love it all so much!
And there is also a splash of water, and wonderful greenery, and shadows on the old pavement…
It's so wonderful. I am absolutely fascinated by this place. I am fascinated by the fact that handicraft traditions are so carefully preserved in China.
With love from a snow-covered village near Moscow)

  2. I was in Shaxi on 6 Feb 2006 when it was just a sleepy hollow with a handful of tourists. I was captivated by it's quiet charm and history and spent a few hours roaming around. I'm so glad it's now thriving again.

  9. No matter how 'beautiful' and 'rural', all Chinese places seem to be perpetually overpopulated… peace and quiet being non existent…

  10. I love Shaxi. Went there twice and stayed for a week. Never want to leave the place cos it is so relaxing and therapeutic

  11. Fine, human-scaled architecture. I noted merchants are open long hours but don't seem to have many sales. There are many tourists posing for selfies but few customers.
